You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

    Just another report on WEATHER-n-CLIMATE
Ice shelf protecting Antarctic glacier is is breaking up faster, study shows
A critical Antarctic glacier is looking more vulnerable as satellite images show the ice shelf that blocks it from collapsing into the sea is breaking up much faster than before and spawning huge icebergs, a new study says.

The Pine Island Glacier’s ice shelf loss accelerated in 2017, causing scientists to worry that with climate change the glacier’s collapse could happen quicker than the many centuries predicted. The floating ice shelf acts like a cork in a bottle for the fast-melting glacier and prevents its much larger ice mass from flowing into the ocean.

EVEN IF THIS IS WHAT SOME OF Y'ALL ARE CALL A WEATHER TREND.... Like what I tweeted to Glenn Greenwald about his crowing over the latest "authoritative" report on the LaFayette Park Clearing last August: "I'd take 'cold comfort' as one who'd have to endure it, that it's not as bad as previously depicted.."
California’s Drought Is So Bad They’re Driving Salmon to the Ocean in Trucks

The drought in California is so bad that the state is loading almost 17 million hatchery salmon into trucks for a ride to the coast in a massive effort to help the species.

Typically, Chinook salmon spawn in rivers and then migrate to the ocean as juveniles, eventually swimming back up rivers to lay their eggs. But this year, the West is experiencing on of the worst droughts in history, with California Governor Gavin Newsom declaring it an emergency in April.

The once-cool and deep riverways salmon have historically traveled are now in some places hot, cracked stretches of dirt. And to make sure that salmon get to the ocean, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife will use 146 trucks to carry the fish up to 100 miles from their hatcheries to the San Francisco Bay and other water areas, according to a release by the agency. They are being let loose at different times of day to avoid a feeding frenzy by lurking seabirds.

Climate change began two weeks earlier than usual with the 24/7 scorching heat punctuated by week long, 105 degree plus, temperature spikes! A trend that will continue with very little change through September. I hate this state and I hate summer in this state!

My romantic memories of AZ (10/7/72-Thanksgiving '72) with the climate and my first post-basic training encounter with the receptively cordial civilian owners of a diner in Tuscon on my way to Ft Huachuca have become skeletons buried in my emotion's graveyard from the doings of today's "news worthy" personalities.

Now the extreme weather equates AZ in the spring /summer to what growing up in CNY/'Cuse was like from mid-Nov to mid March-horrenduous and to be avoided.. (As I put an 'X' on AZ, adding them to the list of CA (earthquake, wildfires), FL (hurricanes),
NE (well...just being NE), TX (despite my enjoying the Corpus Christi in '96 in Selena's old neighborhood and getting a sunburn running a 1/4-marathon), plus any of the northern winter blizzard states) [Sigh]..

IT would be NO COMFORT to me hear this forecast EVEN as a passing EVENT, let alone the foreboding prologue of a chronic condition for the future....

@NWSCPC The West isn't getting a reprieve next week Odds favor hot/dry conditions in the Northwest and the 4 Corners into NV + W TX But the Midwest and much of the East + Gulf Coasts can expect it to be wetter than normal.

    Surprising, isn't it?
In summer it gets very hot in the west.

The drought would be a better focus for climate change advocates.

Their big lakes and reservoirs are almost dry.

Not having more than a transient and casual familiarity with SW Colorado, Utah, Nevada, southern Cali; I was surprised to learn that the green lawns seen on TV shows were camouflaged coverings of the desert soil beneath them, intimating a drier area than I had expected. The droughts and wild fires have confirmed my observations, plus showed me that even temporary chronic conditions can do, let alone climate-related.

Judging what's headed for our southern Gulf coast and learning how strong and what damage may be wrought on that battered (wife) region does more than ALL the brutal winters in Central-Upstate NY that were experiencing 60 years ago when such talk was not part of the policy parlance..

It seems strange to me, that people living in a region that was previously arid, think that drought conditions are unusual. For decades, water was pumped from aquifers and surface streams to irrigate waste land making it fertile. Then they built cities and towns for millions of residents in areas which had no native sources for water.
Billions of gallons of previously un disturbed water were removed from ancient aquifers to satisfy the thirst of the newly reclaimed land and its newly arrived inhabitants. These vast reservoirs are slow to recover, but were rapidly depleted, along with the previously free flowing rivers and streams, now reduced to mere trickles.
And we foolishly claim that it’s a lack of precipitation that’s causing the problems.

The Dolores river looked like this when Shooter was a guide.
His favorite river of them all.

The Dolores river this year. The water is still there, but it's been sucked up so ranchers in the area can grow alfalfa and raise cattle.

I was enchanted by the geography of Colorado, even though my visitation to the state was my 'Napoleon's over-extension of my impulses'.

It's a damn shame in the 22 years that I was there, the desecration of the land from maladministration by
      THE SO-CALLED 'product producers'.

You never heard of climate change, global warming until Al Gore took a job in the White House basement. Then Washington found out how easy it was to scare people into giving them money

You won't hear that on the news. Due to global warming the river is running dry

    1. shootersa
Oh, it's on the news. Lake Powell and Lake Mead at the lowest since they were first filled. The Colorado river is running at it's lowest in decades.
The stories don't talk about how all that water is used by ranchers to grow alfalfa, or to fill swimming pools in California and Nevada while farmers growing produce in Arizona and California are being cut off.

The stories don't talk about how if Mead and Powell can't generate electricity, all those lights in Vegas, and the air conditioning that makes life bearable in Nevada and California will be shut off.

Its all about taking some facts and spinning them or twisting them to demonize something or justify something that isn't justifiable at all. They never needed lake Powell, or McPhee reservoir to contain the Colorado river basin. Mead does that and has done it since it was built. Everything else was built to assuage the political interests upstream.

They killed Shooters favorite river to grow fucking cattle feed.

Actually, in the summer around '85-'87 I was up in 'Cuse (NY) in mid-July and it was closer to the dog-days that start near the end of July and last to the last week of August.. After that I was in hot-as-Hell-during-the-summer Nebraska, then the PI til '91.

Only an incident in the summer of '92 when I got a six pact thrown on my lawn by some young guys while I was out there it was mowing, I guess as a tribute to my efforts on that HOT Spring day, was my only notice of the heat in Ohio. My coming to VA in '93 brought me to a more naturally humid climate, so I didn't notice it. Spent the '00's back in Nebraska summers, so again no noticeable change. Back here in summer humid VA since '11, but no worse than any other time I lived or visited. Only the naval base across the bay having chronic flooding issues and maybe the raining season exacerbating the lack of adequate sewage drainage off the flooded roads have left just hurricane-vulnerable NC and other similar states, and the drought and blizzard states as my weather gauges of something being a change in the pattern-WHICH COINCIDENTALLY.....track w/the explanations of pro-climate change proponents..

Global warming / climate change etc has been a concern since at least the 1940's, with governments around the world discussing it, but deciding it's the next generation's problem.

Well - we are that next generation.
