Hawaii Democrat Sharon Har, who railed against drunken driving, busted for alleged DUI

Hawaii Democratic state Rep. Sharon Har, a longtime crusader for harsher punishments for drunken drivers, found herself in handcuffs late last month for allegedly driving under the influence in Honolulu, as seen in newly released police bodycam video.

Investigators this week released video of her Feb. 22 arrest.

She was accused of driving under the influence the wrong way down a one-way street, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported.

Back in 2008, she had pushed for stricter drunken driving laws after surviving a crash involving a drunken driver, according to the newspaper.



On her website, she lists the DUI law among her greatest legislative accomplishments. It requires an ignition interlock advice be installed in the vehicle of someone arrested for allegedly driving under the influence. She also touts a separate drunken driving crackdown signed in June 2012.

One of the arresting officers wrote in a police report that Har "related that she was going to be the next governor, but ‘this’ will mess up her plans," the Star-Advertiser reported.

He added that she spoke with slurred speech, as she appears to do in police bodycam video, and had "red, glassy eyes."

"I’m embarrassed," Har can be heard saying after an officer told her she’d been driving the wrong way. "I didn’t know."



The officer in the video said he could detect a "slight smell of alcohol" on her breath – even socially distanced and with a coronavirus mask covering his face.

Har declined to take a breathalyzer test and said, "Just take me in," opening the driver's side door.

The officer told her to stay in the car and called over his partner. Har apologized and closed the door.


She also accidentally rolled up her window, then rolled it back down, and apologized to the officers, "I’m a spaz."

Har later apologized to her colleagues in the state legislature, saying she had had an upper-respiratory illness and had mixed prescription cough medicine with a single beer, according to KHON, a local TV station.

Sen. Sanders: Dems can’t waste time catering to obstructionist GOP

Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.) attempted to defend the wide definition of infrastructure in Joe Biden’s proposed plan.

During an interview on Saturday, Sanders described infrastructure not as just bricks and mortar, but human infrastructure as well. He said this is why it’s fair for the $2.3 trillion package to include solutions for affordable housing, climate change and prescription drug prices.

The senator also targeted Republicans, who are unlikely to support the plan.

“They live in their world, and their world will be trying to obstruct as much as possible what Biden, many of us in the Congress are trying to do,” Sanders stated.

As the chair of the Senate Budget Committee, Sanders gave the green light to use the filibuster-proof budget reconciliation process to force through the infrastructure measure without bipartisan support.

Clyburn fined $5K for metal violation

House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) must pay a $5,000 fine for allegedly violating new security protocols at the Capitol. According to reports, Congressman Clyburn was reportedly fined earlier this week for avoiding metal detectors before entering the House floor.

The Acting House Sergeant at Arms sent a letter to the Ethics Committee to inform members that Clyburn had been fined and can appeal. Clyburn is the first Democrat to face punishment for violating new rules that were introduced after the January 6 Capitol breach.

 

Insider trading laws.
They even named an amendment after her that was supposed to outlaw insider trading by members of congress.
She fixed it though so there are no penalties of note and its now almost impossible to track.

 

Dem. Fla. Rep.: Ohio officer responded as he was trained to do

Democrat Representative Val Demings (Fla.) defended the police officer who fatally shot 16-year-old Ma’khia Bryant, adding the officer followed his training.

In an interview with CBS Sunday morning, the Florida Democrat said during her time as the police chief in Orlando she “prayed her officers would respond as they’re trained to.” Additionally, Demmings highlighted the split-second decisions these officers have to make and noted viewers today have the benefit to view in slow-motion, while these officers do not.

“But [from] the limited information that I know in viewing the video, it appears that the officer responded as he was trained to do with the main thought of preventing a tragedy and a loss of life of the person who was about to be assaulted,” Demings stated.”

The 16-year-old was fatally shot by police last week. The incident caused a national uproar with many criticizing the officer for choosing to use deadly force instead of attempting to defuse the situation.

However, a video was released shortly after the incident, showing Bryant lunging at two other women with a knife.

Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif claimed in leaked audio that then-U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry informed him of more than 200 Israeli operations in Syria.

Kerry has previously been accused of colluding with Iranian leaders to undermine the Trump administration. Kerry is now a part of the Biden administration and has a seat on the National Security Council as the special presidential envoy for climate.

He colluded with the Iranians when Trump was contemplating pulling the United States out of the nuke deal with Iran, violating Hatch Act laws and perhaps even being guilty of treason.
