A few years ago I started a new bedtime routine. As I was getting ready for bed I forced myself to reflect on the day and choose my favourite part of it. Even the most miserable of days have parts that are the least awful; I wanted to force myself to recognize those moments as well as recognizing the bad bits.

It was hard, at first. Especially on days that suck; to have to go through it mentally and find a positive seemed difficult and sometimes ridiculous. But it isn’t limited to finding a positive, it’s just got to be your favourite part.

Your favourite part could be, say, seeing some jerkface who’d cut you off 5 minutes ago pulled over on the side of the road and a cop standing at their window. See? Not positive, but could qualify for favourite.

My favourite part of today is putting that extra U in the word and I know it drives some Americans bonkers.

I make a new planner every month and I have a daily section just to log things to be grateful for that I've seen or for something someone has done for me. It helps to keep me focused on positive things.

 

That is also a good practice for your life in general. Think of All the Blessings received & be grateful for them.

 

Preparations for next day taking inventory

 

I don't reflect on anything before bed.
I just make sure to pee first.

 

Last thing I need is to be thinking before bed

 

I would think that getting the brain active before going to bed is the wrong time to do it......feed that insomnia.

 

I don't reflect on anything not necessary. It just screws up my sleeping which interferes with my waking up and watching the sun rise.
It's just a thing I do that started over 30 years ago.

 

I like it! I like to lay in bed as I get ready to drift off to sleep and think about the good parts of my day as well as what I want to accomplish next, and I visualize how I am going to do that.

 

That's a good idea. I'm going to start doing that too.

(And I'm still spelling "tire" with an I. )

 

I lay in bed when I cant sleep and think about what id do if I hit the lottery. Like really big. Who id give money to. What id do with it. Puts me right to sleep.

 

Before I drift off to sleep I usually go over my day then think about what I need to do the next day or remember what I forgot to do that day and hope a spider doesn't crawl on me...

 

I usually just pass out from exhaustion don't really think about til the next day

 

I think about things from 5 years ago or 2 days ago. Sometimes the future. Then i think about how maybe i put too much conditioner in my hair. But it really smells nice. Did i shut the garage door? Maybe i need to go check. It sure feels cold. Wonder what the temperature is set on? Well i will just get under another blanket. Oh remember that time you had sex in that tent at your friends house? Shit now i am horny. Maybe i should play. *Starts humming some song lyrics. That was a really good song. Wonder why they haven't came out with anything new lately? That lady at the store had 7 kids! I wonder how she feeds that many? I couldn't imagine having that many kids. Remember when you?? Fuck, stop it just go to sleep! Maybe i should pray or something. Dear God....(thinks about something naughty). Don't do that when your trying to pray!! Start over....okay, Dear God. "Yawnnnnnn" well shit man i slept hard. Look at my hair this morning? Lol
