And another hack fuck RINO falls from the ballot...as he is able to see the writing on the wall.

John Katko, Republican Who Voted to Impeach Trump, Won’t Seek Re-election
Increasingly marginalized from conservatives at home and in Washington, Mr. Katko also faced a brutal general election campaign in his left-leaning New York district.

WASHINGTON — Representative John Katko of New York, a centrist Republican who broke with his party last year to vote to impeach former President Donald J. Trump, announced on Friday that he would not run for re-election.

Mr. Katko was one of 10 House Republicans to vote to impeach Mr. Trump and is the third member of that group to announce his retirement.

In a statement that fell almost exactly one year after that vote, Mr. Katko said he decided to call it quits in order to “enjoy my family and life in a fuller and more present way.” He added that the loss of both his own parents and his wife’s parents in the last three years “provided life-changing perspective for me.”

Organization challenges Rep. Cawthorne’s candidacy using constitutional amendment written to keep Confederates out of Congress

The nonprofit is using a post-Civil War constitutional amendment to delegitimize Rep. Madison Cawthorne (RN.C.) for office in the upcoming primaries based on allegations of his involvement in the January 6 US Capitol hack.

Free Speech for the People (FSFP) represents several North Carolina voters citing the third section of the Fourteenth Amendment to the US Constitution, called the disqualification clause, which states that no person involved in “rebellion or insurrection” against the US government , cannot be a representative in Congress.

The lawsuit, filed with the NC Board of Elections, alleges that there is “reasonable suspicion” that Cawthorne was involved in the burglary

There have been several conflicting stories about what happened on January 6, including the FBI’s role in it.

Dr. Andy Jackson of the John Locke Foundation, an independent research institute in North Carolina that studies freedom, personal responsibility and limited constitutional government, told The Epoch Times that the amendment was ratified after the Civil War to keep Southerners out. who have served in or supported the confederation by holding positions in Congress.

In a press release, Ron Fane, legal director of Free Speech For People, said that Cawthorne coordinated and helped what Fane called the uprising.

The North Carolina Contestation Act gives a registered voter the right to contest a candidate based on “reasonable suspicion or belief” that “the candidate does not meet the constitutional or statutory requirements for office, including residency.”

Former Associate Justice and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of North Carolina Robert Orr and James Exum, respectively, will serve as Special Counsel to the FSFP.

'How dare you': GOP's Kevin McCarthy faces backlash for Martin Luther King Day comments

Despite the fact that the entire Republican Party is unified in opposing the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act that would restore and strengthen parts of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) praised civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr on Monday.

As the country celebrates the life of King Jr. who fought and led marches to ensure the rights of Black Americans to be allowed to vote before he was assassinated on April 4, 1968, McCarthy jumped on the bandwagon to praise the civil rights leader, which led many of his critics to ask why his party is opposed to the very beliefs King held.

The John Lewis bill passed in the House along party lines, with 219 Democrats voting in favor and all 212 Republicans opposed. It is currently being stymied in the Senate due to GOP opposition.

"From the halls of Ebenezer Baptist Church to the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, #MLK spent his life spreading what he called 'the gospel of freedom.' He never gave up and never preached hate. His words and example inspire us today as we celebrate a great American on #MLKDay," McCarthy tweeted.

That brought on an immediate deluge of accusations of hypocrisy with one commenter responding, "How dare you quote King as you try to take voting rights as a party away from America's people!"

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) joined in the commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and his Democratic opponent gave him a stern fact check.

The Kentucky Republican offered a platitude Monday to celebrate the life of the civil rights champion, joining other GOP lawmakers whose statements honoring King were widely panned.

"As we honor MLK today, may his courage inspire us to redouble our commitment to working together for change," Paul tweeted. "Let’s commemorate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King by uniting the two Americas into one: an America that includes justice for one, and justice for all."

Charles Booker, a Louisville Democrat who's running to replace Paul in the U.S. Senate, reminded his GOP rival of his long-standing opposition to the principles for which King fought and died.

"Sincerely, save your empty words," Booker replied. "You are the person who said you would have opposed the Civil Rights Act, singlehandedly blocked the Emmett Till Antilynching Act, and had the audacity to say racism no longer exists."

More than a couple dozen ec members of the Trump administration met last week to discuss ways to stop Trump. It even included John Kelly.

And they might actually know what they are doing. I thought it was very interesting that instead of just attacking Trump they said maybe the best way to take him out is to go after everyone he has endorsed.

And expose them as seditious traitors.

    I think that will work.

This is exactly the kind of thing we progressive/liberal/Democrats were hoping for. We don't have to do anything right now to tear Republican candidates down. They are too busy tearing each other up and we can just watch the cannibalism. With an eye out of course to see which weapons make the best attacks no matter who wins the primary.

This is really fun to watch because it will play out coast to coast. Trump has endorsed the candidates that are just as stupid, ignorant, and bat shit crazy as he is. And they make big fat juicy targets.

Fellow Republican accuses Trump-backed Senate candidate of having 'a porn addiction'

Former NFL player and Trump-backed Republican Senate candidate in Georgia, Herschel Walker, is risking GOP efforts to retake the Senate with the racy Instagram accounts he follows, according to a GOP primary opponent.

"A review of Senate candidate Herschel Walker’s Instagram account shows he follows several accounts with links to racy material. One of the accounts has a name not suitable for a family newsletter. Several others also have accounts on OnlyFans, a social media platform popular with porn stars," The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Tuesday.

Walker's campaign manager, Scott Paradise, said the inquiry was "stupid."

"He follows or is followed by tens of thousands of people,” Paradise claimed, even though as of publication, he is only following 988 accounts.

But the campaign of Walker's GOP rival, Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black, wondered if he may be addicted to pornography.

“Stalking, and domestic abuse are disqualifying by themselves but a porn addiction would be a significant third strike. That’s just handing the Senate to the Democrats,” said Black spokesman Dan McLagan. “While personally sad, it’s definitely conduct unbecoming of a candidate for elected office.”

Despite the pushback from the agriculture commissioner, Walker has the backing of Donald Trump.

"Herschel Walker will never let you down," Trump promised in a September statement. "He was a great football player and will be an even better U.S. Senator—if that is even possible. He has my Complete and Total Endorsement!"

Republicans Gained Large Number of Voters in 2021: Surveys

Republicans saw a larger number of voters identify with the party at the end of 2021 when compared to the start of the year, while fewer voters identified with Democrats, according to Gallup surveys.

Republicans started the year with 40 percent of those surveyed identifying as “Republican” or “lean Republican,” down 9 percent from voters who identified with the left.

However, as the year wore on, more voters began identifying with the right while a lower number identified as “Democrat” or “lean Democrat.”

By the end of the year, 47 percent of voters surveyed identified with the right, compared to 42 percent who identified with the left.

The results, published by Gallup on Monday, were drawn from all phone surveys the polling firm conducted during the year, including interviews with more than 12,000 American adults.

Jewish Capitol visitors left 'confused' after Lauren Boebert asked if they were doing 'reconnaissance'

    Brad Reed
    January 20, 2022

    C-SPAN/screen grab

A group of Jewish Americans who recently visited the United States Capitol building say they felt "confused" after Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) grilled them about whether they were doing a "reconnaissance" mission.

As Buzzfeed News reports, the group was in the Capitol for a meeting with Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY) when they encountered Boebert as she was stepping out of an elevator.

"When the doors opened, Boebert stepped out of the elevator and looked the group of visitors 'from head to toe,'" one witness told Buzzfeed. "Boebert then asked if they were there to conduct 'reconnaissance.'"

Many members of the group were wearing yarmulkes, and the person coordinating the visit was an Orthodox Jew who also had a traditional beard.

“When I heard that, I actually turned to the person standing next to me and asked, ‘Did you just hear that?’” one rabbi who was with the group told Buzzfeed. "You know, I’m not sure to be offended or not... I was very confused.”

Boebert was famously accused of bringing Capitol insurrectionists into the building ahead of the January 6th riots to conduct reconnaissance, although no evidence has emerged to justify that claim.

Boebert confirmed to Buzzfeed that that's what she was referencing with her comment and she claimed that she didn't see the visitors' yarmulkes when she made the comment.

I'm as conservative as they get, which is why it is so frustrating to have the fake Conservative Republicans continually being reelected. The author is correct – Republicans may not control Congress and the Senate but they were present for the last two years. And except for Senators Ron Paul and Tom Cotton, along with Ron DeSantis and a few other state politicians, they were AWOL from the fight. We can do better, we deserve better.

The GOP Hasn’t Suddenly Discovered Its Spine
Republicans in Congress folded like a deck of cards in the face of the pandemic and they are still behind the ball.

    Carmel Richardson

The political elite have changed their tune” is about as self-evident a truth as single men in possession of large fortunes wanting wives. Every year, spring returns to melt the snow; every time there’s a bid to protect big business, it will be signed by Sen. Mitch McConnell; and every election season, opinions that were anathema one month ago sprout from the unlikeliest of lips.

As TAC managing editor Micah Meadowcroft has pointed out, we should be wary of Democrats who have suddenly begun to sound centrist. We should also be wary of those just to the right of center, who appear, at last, to have discovered their spines—particularly on matters of Covid-19 policy. After just under two years of browbeating from their voters back home, the grand ole party has only flipped the script on Covid policy now because their Democratic betters have decided “endemic” is suddenly cool and fun. (Remember, the Church of Science only appoints woke priests, but that doesn’t stop Republicans from trying to earn entry.)

Federal court shuts down Alabama GOP's gerrymandered electoral map

    Sarah K. Burris
    January 24, 2022

The Voting Rights Act of 1965 requires that minority opportunity districts be drawn so that they have at least 50 percent minority voting-age population.

But when Republicans drew the new Alabama electoral map, they sliced up the districts to marginalize voters of color, which is essentially an effort to ensure there won't be any districts represented by Democrats.

The map was taken to court and it was announced Monday that the GOP had lost the case.

The court said that currently, just one in seven districts are minority specific in a state with 27 percent of the population being Black. It is likely headed to the Supreme Court for an appeal.

"Both sets of plaintiffs also suggest, and we agree, that as a practical reality, the evidence of racially polarized voting adduced during the preliminary injunction proceedings suggests that any remedial plan will need to include two districts in which Black voters either compromise a voting-age majority or something quite close to it," the court wrote.

"Defendants express some doubt as to whether the state will be able to 'draw a map that can garner sufficient support in two legislative chambers and secure the governor's signature' given the time exigencies, but they assert that 'the court should not deprive Alabama's Legislature of that prerogative,'" the decision continues.

The court also concluded that the legislature has ample time to make a new map and added that "we are confident that the Legislature can accomplish its task."

Not much needs to be said about RINO Cheney...we know she is likely to lose her seat to more solid Conservative

Liz Cheney faces big odds in post-Trump primary battle January 6 comments

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming) is expecting a tough primary battle later this year following her comments about President Donald Trump and her activities on the Democratic-dominated committee on Jan. 6.

Since the January 6 “Stop theft” rally, Cheney has increasingly distanced herself from the former president. But it’s a dangerous move for would-be moderates, as Trump remains the head of the Republican Party for many GOP voters.

Recent opinion polls show that both in Wyoming and across the country, Cheney’s stance is far from popular among GOP voters, putting the Wyoming Republican up for a major challenge from Trump-backed attorney Harriet Hageman.

GOP voters overwhelmingly oppose Cheney’s stance in 2020 election Jan 6: Poll

Republicans botched Senate recruitment in New Hampshire — and Trump’s endorsement may not help: report

    Bob Brigham
    January 25, 2022

Republicans may have seriously hindered their efforts to win the U.S. Senate in the 2022 midterm elections after tumultuous efforts at candidate recruitment.

"Last fall, Republicans were nearly salivating over the opportunity to defeat Democratic US Senator Maggie Hassan in New Hampshire, and with that flip the 50-50 Senate back to Republican control," James Pindell wrote for the Boston Globe. "All the pieces were coming into place. Hassan had low approval ratings. President Biden, himself, was becoming more unpopular according to the polling."

Republicans hoped Hassan would be challenged by popular GOP Gov. Chris Sununu, who is the son of a former New Hampshire governor and brother of a man who once held the state's other Senate seat.

"Then it all changed. And one tactical move may have cost the Republicans dearly," Pindell wrote. "First, Sununu announced in early November that he would not be a candidate. Minutes later, former US Senator Kelly Ayotte also declined to run in what would be a rematch with Hassan from 2016. Roughly 30 minutes after that, Scott Brown, the 2014 Senate Republican nominee, also declined a run. Suddenly all the big name Republicans were sitting out on what was still a big chance opportunity."

Republicans recruited state Senate President Chuck Morse, but he waited months to announce his bid.

"Had he entered the race in November, he likely would have found the field essentially cleared for him. The one Republican already in the race, former Brigadier General Don Bolduc, wasn’t raising the money needed to compete with the $14 million Hassan had already raised," he explained. "Morse’s hesitance created a vacuum and a belief that there wasn’t anyone committed to running. Soon Londonderry Town Manager Kevin Smith, [an] affable former candidate for governor, was being talked into running."

The picture of the race looks far different than a year ago, when Sununu looked likely to run.

"In the end, Smith and Morse announced their candidacies within a day of each other. Neither is a more dominant presence than the other. This race went from a likely Republican takeover to who knows what," Pindell wrote. "Meanwhile here is the real twist: a poll out last week from Saint Anselm College found that while Hassan would beat all Republican challengers, the one who had the best chance to defeat her was Bolduc, the candidate the establishment has shunned because they don’t think he can win."

Donald Trump has not yet endorsed a candidate, but it might hindered a GOP nominee in the general election.

"While Trump could be helpful to Republicans if he made an endorsement soon, it should be noted that in 2020 the state didn’t for vote Trump and didn’t vote for the people he endorsed for Senate or Congress, either. So it is unclear if the Trump endorsement would be a problem for a candidate in the general election," he noted.
