President Trump: We need better leadership than Mitch McConnell

    OAN Newsroom
    UPDATED 12:54 PM PT – Monday, March 22, 2021

According to President Trump, there would be “irreparable damage” to the GOP if Senate Democrats end the filibuster.

In an interview with media personality Lisa Boothe Monday, the 45th president said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has been weak on leadership and has not fought hard enough to reign his party when defending the filibuster.

“We need better than Mitch McConnell and this is big stuff…now they’re going to knock out the filibuster…its going to be a big problem,” stated President Trump. “And if they do that, it’s going to be a free-for-all.

His comments follow earlier criticisms in which he suggested McConnell isn’t good for the Republican Party.

President Trump also linked McConnell’s weak approach to his handling the 2020 presidential election.

The Democrats really have nothing to lose and everything to gain by ending the filibuster and doing the things the majority of Americans want them to do. They really should invoke majority rule instead of allowing Moscow Mitch and the minority of conservative/Republicans dictate to them.

Ex-GOP counsel hands Democrats a tip on how to deal with Mitch McConnell's threats

    www.rawstory.com

Appearing on MSNBC's "The Sunday Show," the former Republican Party counsel to the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee had some advice for Democrats who are on the receiving end of threats from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

They have nothing to fear from him and should go about doing what they need to do to get legislation passed, she explained.

Asked about McConnell's comments that the filibuster is not racist and should be left intact, former Republican Sophia Nelson scoffed at McConnell's threats.

"Sophia, I'm going to be talking about this in my byline so I don't mean to give it away," host Jonathan Capehart prompted. "But I want to ask you this question: what do you make of this choice that's out there, that Democrats have to make, that if you blow up the filibuster, Mitch McConnell says, 'oh, watch out. all hell is going to break loose.' On the other hand, if you don't do anything with the filibuster, President Biden's agenda isn't going anywhere. When it comes to that, which choice do you make?"

"They can use the reconciliation process as you know, but here's the thing," Nelson replied. "Here's my advice to Democrats, as someone who was a Republican for 25-plus years: stop being afraid of Mitch McConnell, he's not afraid of you."

"You need to do what you need to do in order to get this president's agenda through, to get infrastructure bills, health care reform, any type of other things we need to do," she added. " I don't think you ought to get rid of the filibuster, Jonathan, but you have to radically reform it and civil rights and voting rights are going to be drastically impacted if we don't do something about it."

    Oh?
And what is it the "majority of Americans" want the despicables to do, exactly?
    Pass more pig bills?
    Double the debt?
    Increase taxes (on the rich)?
Allow mixed sex restrooms, sports, and public showers?
    Open borders?

Care to tell us, you know, what it is we want?

Now if Trump and the conservative/Republicans weren't running a trillion dollar deficit before anyone ever heard of COVID 19 they might have a point about the deficit and debt. But since they were running a trillion budget deficit in a time of prosperity they don't and are simply raving RatLicking lying, phony, traitors to the United States of America and everything it stood for for more than 230 years. No one should even tolerate let alone listen to the conservative/Republicans that dug a hole where the United States of America used to be and then took a shit on it. i.e. Shit hole country.

The comments calling out McConnell’s shameless desperation amid the corporate protest over a restrictive new voting law in Georgia, come after the Kentucky Republican offered an about-face on Monday regarding the role of corporations in politics.

“I found it completely discouraging to find a bunch of corporate CEOs getting in the middle of politics,” McConnell said during a press conference in his home state on Monday. “My advice to the corporate CEOs of America is to stay out of politics. Don’t pick sides in these big fights.”

The assertion comes after McConnell has routinely leveraged corporate power for political gain. McConnell’s campaign has for years lined its coffers with corporate donations and even outpaced other candidates in 2020’s election cycle for donations from CEOs of companies on the S&P Index, according to MarketWatch.

The posture from the Kentucky lawmaker also comes after years of fiercely defending the funneling of corporate cash into politics, insisting that businesses have both rights to free speech and a right to boost preferred candidates to influence elections.

McConnell was the plaintiff in a landmark case against the Federal Elections Commission in 2003 challenging campaign finance reform that went to the U.S. Supreme Court and was an outspoken supporter of the 2010 ruling that ultimately defended corporate spending in politics.

Political analysts on Twitter were also quick to point out the hypocrisy:

‘Farcical and despicable’: McConnell ignites furious backlash after he ‘lets the mask slip’ on corporate donations

This Monday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) spoke to reporters and warned corporations to stay out of politics, but he made sure to clarify that he doesn't want them to stop donating money.

"I'm not talking about political contributions," he clarified. "Most [corporations] contribute to both sides … that's fine, it's legal and appropriate, I support that. I'm talking about taking a position on a highly incendiary issue like this and punishing a community or state because you don't like a particular law. I just think it's stupid."

‘Pounding on His Little Shell’: Rachel Maddow Laughs at Mitch McConnell for Warning Companies to ‘Stay Out of Politics’

    ag mitch.jpg

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow gleefully mocked Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) for warning companies to “stay out of politics” following Major League Baseball’s decision to move this year’s All-Star game from Atlanta.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred announced last Friday, in response to new voting legislation in Georgia, that he “decided that the best way to demonstrate our values as a sport is by relocating this year’s All-Star Game and MLB Draft.” He added, “We proudly used our platform to encourage baseball fans and communities throughout our country to perform their civic duty and actively participate in the voting process. Fair access to voting continues to have our game’s unwavering support.”

McConnell later condemned the MLB and other companies weighing in on politics while speaking at a news conference in Louisville on Tuesday, saying, “My warning, if you will, to corporate America, is to stay out of politics.”

“Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell pounding his little shell and telling corporate America to stay out of politics. Warning them,” Maddow reacted. “My warning is to stay out of politics, at least on this. At least stay out of being in favor of voting rights.”

“There is literally no one in American politics who has done more as an individual to ensure that companies stay in politics, to ensure massive unrestricted corporate involvement in U.S. politics,” Maddow laughed. “There’s literally nobody who has done more for that cause than Mitch McConnell. It’s the one thing he’s been devoted to more than anything else in his own career. His own power, and making sure that corporations can flood as much money into politics as they want, with absolutely no accountability for it.”

To Maddow’s point, McConnell later clarified in his comments that he was not talking about “political contributions” from corporations, which he has no problem with.

Actually...that's some damn good news in my mind.

If McConnell is is enabling such stuff, that means that he's not lock-stepped in the direction that Pelosi is locked into and wont be participating and supporting the direction that Pelosi wants to take this Nation in.

As this will also confirm that message.

McConnell says focus is on 'stopping' Biden agenda

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said Wednesday he is "100 percent" focused "on stopping" President Joe Biden's administration.

Speaking to reporters in his home state of Kentucky, McConnell was asked about the House GOP leadership feud that reached a boiling point this week after Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming, the third-ranking Republican, again rebutted former President Donald Trump's stolen election lie. McConnell was also asked whether he was concerned about the direction of the party.

"One-hundred percent of our focus is on stopping this new administration," McConnell said, adding, "We're confronted with severe challenges from a new administration, and a narrow majority of Democrats in the House and a 50-50 Senate to turn America into a socialist country, and that's 100 percent of my focus."

McConnell's comments came after Trump and House Minority Whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana publicly backed Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York to replace Cheney as chair of the House Republican Conference.

A motion to remove Cheney from her leadership position could be filed as early as May 12 when the House is back in session. Moves to oust Cheney burst into public view Monday after she responded to a Trump statement by saying anyone claiming the 2020 presidential election was stolen is "poisoning our democratic system."

McConnell previously condemned Trump's conduct around the Jan. 6 Capitol riot — though he did not vote to convict Trump in his impeachment trial — and has said Biden rightfully won last fall's presidential election.

He was asked Wednesday if it is concerning that a significant number of GOP voters don't believe Biden won.

"One-hundred percent of my focus is on standing up to this administration," he responded, reiterating his earlier comments. "What we have in the United States Senate is totally unity from Susan Collins to Ted Cruz in opposition to what the new Biden administration is trying to do to this country."

McConnell's comments drew comparisons to remarks he made about then-President Barack Obama to the National Journal just prior to the 2010 midterms.

"The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president," McConnell said then, noting elsewhere in the interview that Republicans were open to some compromise and adding, "I don't want the president to fail; I want him to change."

Jim Clyburn rains hell on 'miserable failure' Mitch McConnell during CNN interview

Speaking with "State of the Union" host Jake Tapper on Sunday morning, House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-SC) ridiculed Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) -- saying the GOP leader is overseeing a party that has lost its way.

With CNN host noting McConnell has admitted he will do everything he can to obstruct President Joe Biden, Clyburn jumped all over the Senate Republican's remarks.

"What's your take on that comment? Does that mean there's no hope for bipartisanship in the Senate?" Tapper asked.

"No," Clyburn shot back. "I think the Republicans are going to remember that it was Mitch McConnell who told them that his number one priority was to make sure that Barack Obama was a one-term president. Last time I checked, he was a miserable failure in 2012 and Barack Obama was a two-term president and a very successful one at that."

"I think they are going to get the same thing here," he continued. "Mitch McConnell has some personal animus towards Democrats that ought not to be. We are one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all -- let's operate like that. This Republican Party is losing its way on all fronts, and Mitch McConnell is contributing to that in a big way."
