‘That is not how it works’: Jen Psaki dismantles conservative reporter's factually incorrect question

    C-SPAN

During a press conference at the White House this Wednesday, reporter Owen Jensen from the Catholic news network EWTN asked Jen Psaki a question regarding the Biden administration's move to reverse a Trump-era family planning policy.

"Today, as you well know, the Biden administration and HHS started the reversal of the Trump administration's ban on abortion referrals at Title X family planning clinics," Jensen said. "So my first question -- why does the Biden administration insist that pro-life Americans pay for abortions and violate their conscience?"

"First, that's not an accurate depiction of what happened," Psaki replied.

"None of the funds appropriated under this title shall be used in programs where abortion is a method of family planning," she continued. "That is written into the Health Services Act and it specifically states that."

"Indirect subsidies minus funds that can't be traced -- we know that, come on," Jensen pressed.

"That is not how it works. That is the law," Psaki shot back. "So I'm stating what the law is and how it is implemented legally by these organizations."

According to NPR, the proposal "would largely return the federal Title X family planning program to its status before Trump took office. The current rules, implemented in March 2019 under Trump, forbid any provider who provides or refers patients for abortions from receiving federal funding through Title X to cover services such as contraception and STD screenings for low-income people."

Psakied again. They never learn. Jen Psaki can also read right wing false propaganda and knows what right wing hacks are going to ask before they ask it.

Press Secretary Jen Psaki brilliantly smacks down Newsmax reporter trying to get Black UN Ambassador fired

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki responded to a reporter from the right wing website Newsmax who asked if President Joe Biden will fire the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.

Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield joined the U.S. Foreign Service four decades ago, in 1982. Her extensive resume includes serving as United States Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Director General of the United States Foreign Service and Director of Human Resources, United States Ambassador to Liberia, Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration, and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for African Affairs, among others.

She was confirmed for her current post by a highly partisan U.S. Senate in a strongly bipartisan 78–20 vote.

Newsmax White House Correspondent Emerald Robinson suggested President Joe Biden should bow down to any criticism or attacks from China, telling Psaki that Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield "essentially said that white supremacy is woven into our founding documents and principles."

"This statement," Robinson claimed, "is getting widely criticized as essentially parroting Chinese Communist Party talking points. So is the President going to remove her from her position as the representative before that body to promote United States values?"

    Psaki, calmly, told her no.

"Is the President going to remove an African American woman with decades of experience in the Foreign Service who is widely respected around the world from her position as Ambassador to the UN? He is not," Psaki replied. "He is proud to have her in that position. She is not only qualified, he believes she is exactly the right person in that role at this moment in time. I have not seen her comments, I will say that there's no question that there has been a history of institutional racism in this country, and that doesn't require the UN ambassador to confirm that."

Robinson, apparently trying to shape U.S. foreign policy from the press briefing room, complained thast Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield's remarks are "essentially the same lecture though that the Chinese delegation gave Secretary Blinken in Alaska last month. So does the President think our founding documents are racist?"

Undeterred, Psaki again responded, saying: "I would say that, I will, I will leave my comments to speak for themselves, and certainly I think most people recognize the history of systemic racism in our country, and she was speaking to that."

As most Americans know, the founding documents are inherently racist, including but hardly limited to allowing slavery and counting slaves as only three-fifths of a person.

It must have stumbler and distant lover dancing to know that not only does our ambassador to China, but our President, and our vice president, and our press secretary, cling to the old belief that America is racist.

You know, as opposed to the idea that there are racists in America.

But hey, ask stumbler and he'll tell you what a "shithole country" America is anyway.

Press Secretary Jen Psaki Will Help Joe Biden Lie To America
Obama veteran Jennifer Psaki claims she’ll bring honesty back to the White House, but she helped orchestrate the fake news behind the Iran nuclear deal ‘echo chamber.’

    By Jonathan S. Tobin

Like most who will work in a senior position for Joe Biden, his chosen White House Press Secretary Jennifer Psaki is a veteran of the Obama administration. Psaki claims her job will be to “rebuild trust” with “the American people” that the Trump White House allegedly broke.

Two basic fallacies provide the foundation for this narrative. One is the false notion that the Obama administration was honest with either the press or the people, underlined by looking back on the part Psaki had in the lies that assisted the Iran nuclear deal.

The other is the astonishing assertion that Biden and his team will be a breath of fresh air and restore transparency to American government after running among the least open and honest campaigns for the presidency in modern American political history. Should, as she promises, Psaki be a truly honest interlocutor between the media and the president, it would be a startling departure from the way the Biden campaign operated.

The open antagonism and partisanship much of the White House press corps have demonstrated since Trump took office is unprecedented. There was a long tradition of White House correspondents being obnoxious and insistent questioners of presidents and press secretaries. But the notion that someone whose job is to cover the administration would consider it appropriate to debate administration spokespersons rather aggressively collect information — as became routine with CNN’s Jim Acosta and PBS’s Yamiche Alcindor and others — was new.

Helping Lie to Americans about the Iran Deal
Under President Barack Obama, that partisanship took on a completely different character as many in the White House press corps blithely accepted the often duplicitous explanations his representatives dished out. The most egregious example of this was their coverage of the negotiations with Iran that led to the 2015 nuclear deal, including the effort to sell the pact to Congress and the nation.

During this period, Psaki served as deputy press secretary and deputy White House communications director, and spent the crucial years from 2013 to 2015 as State Department spokesperson. She was thus at the center of one of the most elaborate deceptions in the history of U.S. foreign policy.

During his 2012 re-election campaign, Obama took a hard line on Iran and vowed in his foreign policy debate with Republican opponent Mitt Romney that in any possible future negotiations with Iran he would not settle for anything less than “the end of their nuclear program.” Psaki held to that line in 2013 even though she knew that her boss Secretary of State John Kerry was engaging in secret negotiations with Iran in which the United States had already abandoned almost all of its demands that Tehran end its nuclear program and cease its enrichment of uranium.

On her watch, the State Department press office doctored video of press briefings to cover up evidence that she was lying in 2013 about the existence of secret talks. More importantly, during her time at the State Department, Psaki was one of the chief enablers of what Obama’s Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes boasted was a media “echo chamber” in which the administration manipulated the press into spreading their false claims about the nuclear deal.

Lies such as claims that inspections of Iran’s nuclear facilities would take place “anytime, anywhere” were promoted as facts, when nothing like was in the deal. Nor did Psaki give the press a heads up about the way the deal would be ultimately sealed: with the United States sending a planeload of cash to Iran as part of the shocking payoff to the ayatollahs for Obama and Kerry to get a deal at any price.

Biden Has Hid From the Public the Entire Campaign
Trump’s spokespersons were sometimes caught defending insignificant falsehoods, like Sean Spicer’s foolish defense of the president’s extravagant claims about the size of the crowd at his inauguration, or problems like the separation of illegal immigrants from children at the border. But on the substance of government policy, nothing that happened from 2017to 2020 rivaled the elaborate deceptions for Iran policy under Obama. In these, Psaki played a crucial role, and media figures who have been the fiercest critics of Trump’s press office said little or nothing at the time.

That Paski’s accession to Biden press secretary would be greeted with praise for her promise about trust and honesty rather than peals of skeptical laughter also speaks volumes about the media’s partisanship. No presidential campaign in living memory did as much to hide its candidate from the press or to conceal his intentions about governing as that of Biden in 2020.

While, even in the midst of a pandemic, Trump continued to take questions from the press and submit to interviews with often hostile as well as friendly members of the media, Biden was kept away from the press during the entire campaign. At no point did he sit down with a major correspondent for a serious interview.

Biden was allowed to skate to Election Day without ever being forced to answer whether he would try to pack the Supreme Court, as his radical supporters urged, or whether he would implement any of the “unity task force” policy recommendations agreed upon by Biden’s staff and that of Democratic rival Sen. Bernie Sanders.

He was also allowed to get away with angrily dismissing questions about his son Hunter’s profiteering in Ukraine and China from his father’s status as Obama’s point man on relations with those countries, something no one in the press would have tolerated from Trump. Indeed, even in the aftermath of the election, the Biden team’s idea of news was announcements about the president’s intention of having both a dog and a cat in the White House.

Perhaps Psaki, who spent the Trump years spinning for the left as a commentator on CNN, thinks the mainstream media will continue to be Biden’s obedient lapdogs once he’s in the White House. Given the way so many in the press have abandoned even the pretense of objectivity in their war on Trump and Republicans, she might be right about that.

If so, her tenure as press secretary may be the easiest ride of any in that job since the days when journalists happily colluded with John F. Kennedy’s courtiers to cover up his illicit White House antics. But the pretense that this will herald a new era of honesty and transparency that will put the efforts of Spicer, Sarah Sanders, and Kayleigh McEnany to shame is a sad joke.

WATCH: Jen Psaki Reduces Question On Biden Tax Plan to Smoking Wreck — The Week in Psaki

    Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images

The highlight of White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki’s briefings this week may well have been her dissection of a reporter’s question speculating about the effects of President Joe Biden’s infrastructure proposals.

There were many high and lowlights this week, including one reporter who asked if President Joe Biden is “okay” with higher utility rates that might occur.

Psaki explained that the White House is not concerned about the possibility of utility companies raising rates to compensate for a 28 percent corporate tax rate, which prompted this exchange, during which the interrogator became the interrogated, and wound up arguing against himself:

Q But even though — I mean, utility companies did — maybe it’s, arguably, partially for show, but they did announce, you know, rate decreases after the 27 [2017] tax law passed, and attributed it to the tax law passing. You know —

MS. PSAKI: Is there some data that you’re expecting from economists, suggesting that will be the case? Or are you just getting ahead of what might happen when the bill passes?

Q I mean, I’m just getting ahead of that. Like, there were those announcements. You said, like, they didn’t have the intended effects, but utility companies did say, “Hey, our — you know, we can pass on this lower rate to consumers through their utility bills.” And it’s —

MS. PSAKI: And have utility companies said — I have not seen it if they have — that they would raise the cost, if this bill passed, to invest in infrastructure and get lead out of the pipes to make sure there’s clean drinking water and create millions of jobs?

Q I’m not aware of any specific announcements like that. But I’m just saying that was the — one of the results that occurred after the 2017 law passed.

MS. PSAKI: Well, then I don’t think we have to anticipate it as an issue quite yet.

As the reporter noted himself, the statements by utility companies were self-serving, which raises doubts about whether they’d welcome the kind of publicity that would accompany an announcement in the other direction.

The week began with a reporter shopping John Cornyn’s dopey tweet about how Biden isn’t really in charge because he doesn’t do batshit tweets or make a nuisance of himself on whatever the equivalent of Fox & Friends would be.

“I can confirm the president does not spend his time tweeting conspiracy theories, and spends his time working on behalf of the American people,” Psaki said.

Perhaps the dumbest exchange of the week — a tall order — was when a reporter accused the Biden administration of contributing to vaccine hesitancy by wearing masks even though they’ve been vaccinated. Psaki was far too polite, in my view, but appropriately confused.

The Squad came to the briefing room to roost when Psaki had to tell reporters that no, President Biden does not agree there should be “no more policing.”

Psaki was firm when an anti-choice reporter tried to spew lies about Title X, and even turned it into an opportunity to educate reporters about the law’s benefits. Eventually, she had to shut the dude down.

Another reporter tried to stretch the recent news about Russian bounties to suggest that President Biden should apologize to Trump for attacking him over the story. Psaki was not receptive to that suggestion.

It’s still not known whether Trump was briefed on the Russian bounties, at least not from any credible source.

Psaki also had a handy zinger for Republicans who criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for supposed inaction on the border, literally while she was holding a roundtable on the border.

The week ended with a right-wing reporter trying to call Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield’s manager because the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations talked about slavery and white supremacy in a speech. Psaki cut her down like a sushi chef.

Jen Psaki shuts down Fox News reporter: 'I don't think you've articulated what our change in policy is'

    David Edwards
    April 19, 2021

    C-SPAN/screen grab
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on Monday challenged Fox News correspondent Kristen Fisher over a question about the number of refugees that are being allowed into the country during President Joe Biden's administration.

At Monday's White House briefing, Fisher suggested that the Biden administration had reversed course and would not keep the Trump-era limits on refugees because Democrats complained.

For its part, the White House argued that a statement issued on Friday did not represent a policy change.

"I'm still confused about what changed between 1 p.m. on Friday and around 4:30 p.m. on Friday to go from we're not raising the refugee cap to we are raising the refugee cap by May 15," Fisher told Psaki on Monday. "What changed in those three and a half hours?"

"We never said we're not raising the refugee cap," Psaki explained. "In the morning we said, and it was actually in the information we put out, was once we reach 15,000, we will raise it. That was not accounted for in some of the ways people were digesting the information. And we wanted to be clear and send a message that we are a country that is welcoming refugees. Let's be clear. We are changing the policies of the last administration."

"So you're saying this has nothing to do with the pushback from some Democrats?" Fisher pressed.

"I don't think you've ever articulated to me what our change in policy was," Psaki pointed out. "What was our change in policy from the morning to the afternoon?"

Fisher then seemed to admit that the policy may have not changed.

"That's a pretty important caveat," Psaki observed. "When we reach 15,000, a subsequent presidential determination could be made."

"The line said, 'the admission of up to 15,000 refugees remains justified,'" Fisher pushed back. "Do you understand how some people would interpret that?"

"I think we have a responsibility to provide all of the context," Psaki advised the Fox News reporter. "This was always meant to be a first step."

"Does this have anything to do with the pushback from Democrats on Capitol Hill?" Fisher wondered.

"I don't think you've articulated what our change in policy is," Psaki said, moving on to the next reporter.

"It's not my job to do that," Fisher objected.

"It is if you're asking a question," Psaki replied.

One also has to ask, so Psaki, if a reporter failed to correctly state what the change in policy is, perhaps you could explain it to us. Unless of course, you either don't know the policy because whirly bird biden can't articulate it, or because you know it will change shortly.

After four years of Trump constantly inciting hate discontent and violence including a violent insurrection and attempted coup McEnany can try to tell this lie as if Trump and the past four years never happened.

Kayleigh McEnany appears on Fox News (screen grab)

Former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Tuesday blasted President Joe Biden for speaking out about the Derek Chauvin trial even though her former boss, Donald Trump, often expressed his opinion on similar events.

As president, Trump often weighed in on legal matters and controversial events.

After Kyle Rittenhouse was charged with homicide for shootings that left two protesters in Wisconsin dead last August, Trump offered a defense of the suspect.

"He was trying to get away from them, I guess, it looks like," Trump opined at the time. "I guess he was in very big trouble. He probably would have been killed."

And when we read that context no one can even possibly contend Linda Thomas-Greenfield isn't absolutely correct that racism was part of our very founding and institutions. Slaves were only counted as 3/5ths of a person and only property owning white males were allowed to vote.

I have also been pointing out that thanks to Trump both China and Russia get to point at the US and contend we are no better than them when if comes to democracy, racism, and police brutality.

But OMG how can anyone, even Baghdad Barbie, sit there and say presidents shouldn't speak our or be divisive after four years of Trump? Its mind boggling to even pretend anyone would be that stupid.

Kaylee McEnany I have never seen such stupidity and utter arrogance in my life . This woman spews it constantly .
Those who watch her I actually listen or believe what she says Actually she really never says anything . She certainly never answers any questions that she is asked even when she knows what the question is going to be .
