I often wonder about this... If it was too appease the southern states, they were only even counted because the population of the south was significantly smaller than the north. Slaves were only counted to make the south appear larger than they were, but you couldn't make them a whole person, because they could say that they should also get a vote!

It was a compromise. The southern states wanted a full count of all enslaved people, which would give them more seats in Congress. Of course, non enslaved women were counted as a full person, even though they couldn't vote, either.

Those tricky despicables have always found a way to get more than they deserve.
Those Jim Crow laws, and poll taxes were all despicable agenda items, weren't they?

And now we see, they don't like the electoral college so they want that tossed out, and they don't like the supreme court make up so they'll just stack that, and what the hell, as long as we're on a roll, we'll get rid of the filibuster, you know, until deplorables are in power again, then we'll want it reenacted.

You had to be a property owning white male to be able to vote when the constitution was first written. And not trusting what they called "mobocracy" that allowed everyone to vote for Representatives the founders made the Senate more powerful and rigged it so their fellow rich white males in state legislatures could appoint Senators.

We also see conservative/Republicans point out that most people in the south and especially the ones who resorted to terrorism and Jim Crow laws called themselves "Democrats." But that was not really the case. Southern "Democrats" were actually more conservative than most Republicans. And the only reason they called themselves "Democrats" was because Lincoln was a Republican. But as soon as LBJ started signing civil rights and voting rights laws just as he predicted the majority of southern Democrats became Republicans.

Jen Psaki smacks down CBN reporter who asked what Biden not meeting with House minority leader says ‘about unity?’

David Brody and Jen Psaki (Screen Grab)
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki again was forced to deal with a right wing reporter trying to inflame American politics by dredging up old GOP talking points.

David Brody, a reporter for Pat Robertson's Christian Broadcasting Network, asked Psaki what President Joe Biden not yet meeting with House Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy says about "unity."

"I guess the question is," Brody said, President Biden "has not met with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, according to Kevin McCarthy. What does that say about unity?"

Brody continued, saying "there are some other legislative issues as it relates to HR1 and a commission to study, packing the Supreme Court as you would say."

The White House would not describe right-sizing the Supreme Court as "packing" it, that's a GOP talking point, just as is twisting Biden's remarks about wanting unity.

"And there's a lot of other lists as well, budget reconciliation, so there's a lot of folks who talk about tens of millions of people, they're concerned about that this doesn't seem like unity at all," Brody complained.

Unfazed, Psaki asked Brody, "Do you think tens of millions of people are concerned about him not meeting with Kevin McCarthy?"

Brody pushed back, claiming "tens of millions of people are concerned about HR1, budget reconciliation and going with a 50 vote threshold," he claimed.

"I don't think the polling bears that out," Psaki said, correctly.

At least two-thirds of Americans (68%) support HR1, the For the People Act, a voting rights and election reform bill. That number includes a solid majority, 57%, of Republicans. And a majority of Americans support killing the filibuster to advance HR1 and a $15 minimum wage.

"I will say that the President's view is that bringing the country together is bringing the American people together," Psaki continued. "So when I say he's, he is focused on bringing you know, bringing people together, bringing Democrats or Republicans together, he's not talking about solving bipartisanship in 'this zip code here.'"

I know it baffles Trumpets when someone one does the right thing, even though it's not popular and will cost votes. Johnson knew he was handing the south over to the GOP for at least a generation. That generation is dying off now and their only hope of holding power is to suppress voters who aren't likely to support them. They know they are outnumbered, so facts, morality, and ethics have to be abandoned.

I'm sure you understand what it's about, but have to maintain the party line.

So, then by avoiding the question, you acknowledge that the Jim Crow laws, and the resistance to Johnson's civil rights legislation within his own party was racism?

Or do we want to do the left handed insult thingy?

Reactionaries like to quote "the Founding Fathers" as though they were paragons of virtue and fonts of The Absolute Truth. They were intelligent, and well educated for their day. They were also rich men. Most owned slaves, or had in the past. The fact that they would have opposed the economic reforms of the twentieth century is a matter of stunning irrelevance.

Whenever a reactionary quotes one of the over rated "Founding Fathers" it is a good idea to to an internet search for the quote. It is frequently the case that the quoted "Founding Father" did not say or write the quote at all.

A two-fer. The Big Lie the election was stolen and the lie of conservatism as it is preached and practiced in this nation just on glaring display. Aside from being traitors to the United States of America "conservatives" also just shit on and threw away every value they even claimed to have. And Kayleigh is great at revealing that.'

This is crippling': Kayleigh McEnany bellyaches about Trump's 'political future' after Facebook upholds ban

Former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Wednesday accused Facebook of "political motives" after the company's oversight board decided to uphold former President Donald Trump's ban on the platform.

"This board has decided for the most part on free speech," McEnany told a Fox News panel. "In fact, four of the first five decisions that they issued were in favor or reposting content. And some of that content involved adult nudity, hate speech."

"So they've been very much on the side of the First Amendment except when it comes to President Trump," she continued. "And you've got to wonder if there are political motives here."

McEnany suggested that conservatives need to be allowed to speak out on Facebook "because it's huge for political donations."

"This is crippling for someone who wants a political future," she added. "And should Facebook have the power to influence democracies and elections? I would argue no."

MSNBC White House correspondent Kristen Welker read aloud a tweet from Ted Cruz slamming Facebook’s continued suspension of former President Donald Trump, and asked Press Secretary Jen Psaki “Does he have a point?”

The Texas senator tweeted a message following the news that the Facebook Oversight Board had delivered it ruling that Trump will remain suspended pending a final policy decision by the social media giant.

“Disgraceful,” Cruz wrote, adding “For every liberal celebrating Trump’s social media ban if the Big Tech oligarchs can muzzle the former President, what’s to stop them from silencing you?”

At Wednesday’s briefing, Welker noted Facebook’s announcement, read that tweet aloud and asked Psaki “Does he have a point?”

“Let me first say that this is an independent board’s decision and we’re not going to have any comment on the future of the former president’s social media platform,” Psaki said, and added that “it sounds like the independent board punted back to Facebook to make in the next 6 months.”

“The president’s view is that the major platforms have a responsibility, related to the health and safety of all Americans, to stop amplifying untrustworthy content, disinformation, and misinformation, especially related to Covid-19, vaccinations, and elections,” Psaki continued, and added that “there’s more that needs to be done to ensure that this type of misinformation, disinformation, damaging sometimes life-threatening information, is not going out to the American public.”

“You’re saying more that needs to be done, is there any concerns though about First Amendment rights, and where does the White House draw the line on that?” Welker asked.

“Well look, I think we are of course a believer in First Amendment rights, I think what the decisions that the social media platforms need to make is how they address the disinformation, misinformation, especially related to life-threatening issues like Covid-19 and vaccinations that continue to proliferate on their platforms,” Psaki said.

As I have been saying. I've been watching White House Press Secretaries since before Helen Thomas was senile. And I have never seen a better one than Jen Psaki. There is also some real information in this article. Not that facts reason and logic matter anymore.

White House Reporters ‘Rooting’ for Jen Psaki Gush About Her in Magazine Feature: ‘Professional, Pleasant, Lovely’

Reporters say Jen Psaki has given them a White House press secretary they can champion.

Members of the White House press corps made the remarks for a Washingtonian report published on Wednesday, which honed in on the “awkward feeling of rooting” for the spokesperson reporters are general expected to scrutinize. “She takes questions from everybody,” chief ABC News Washington correspondent Jon Karl mused to the publication. “She doesn’t get rattled. She doesn’t lose her cool.”

“She’s a pro, you know?” chief New York Times White House correspondent Peter Baker added.

“She’s like any other competent, professional, pleasant, lovely press person from any other era,” added a White House reporter who wasn’t named. The reporter said Psaki had a “sunny” demeanor that made reporters “feel good about their interactions,” adding, “She’s never going to be super-helpful, and that’s frustrating, but that’s kind of her job. It’s one of those weird things where you leave the process feeling good about it even though, when you hang up the phone, you realize: F—, she said nothing helpful.”

The comments suggest a marked change in tenor among members of the press corps compared to President Donald Trump’s term in the White House, when reporters routinely railed against his press secretaries — including Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Kayleigh McEnany — when they declined to answer questions. Those objections bordered on the theatrical on more than one occasion, with reporters — including Jess Bidgood and Jordan Fabian — sometimes even refusing to ask questions when they were called upon, deferring instead to reporters who felt their inquiries hadn’t been properly addressed.

Those controversies led Mike McCurry, a former press secretary under President Bill Clinton, to at one point call for an end to televised press briefings, telling Mediaite last year it could help the participants to become more “amicable” and professional.” Networks started acting on that advice only after President Joe Biden took office.

The Washingtonian report dedicated a brief mention to the T.J. Ducklo ordeal, which involved the former Psaki aide threatening to “destroy” a reporter who asked about his romantic relationship with a member of the press corps. However, the publication said, Ducklo was known as “one of Bedingfield’s” staffers, a reference to White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield.

Psaki also won praise from Jessica Goldstein, the associate Washingtonian editor who authored Wednesday’s report.

“In her first three months on the job, White House press secretary Jen Psaki has yet to be caught in an unhinged lie or spontaneous infomercial, and she does not refer to the reporters who sit before her in the briefing room each day as ‘the enemy of the people,'” Goldstein wrote. “The bar set by the Trump White House might be on the floor but, hey, so far she’s cleared it.”

I expected this because just as a general rule White House Press Secretaries have a very shot life expectancy. But its going to be a loss because no other press secretary will have the talent and ability Jen Psaki has. Which has now created a new standard. I do, however, admire and understand her reasons. Life with your kids, especially when they are little, is an everyday occurrence filled with monumental moments. And if you want in on it you have to be there. So I can sure relate to that and we can at least look forward to about another year of right wing hacks getting Psakied.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki reveals why she plans to step down in the near future
    Stephen Proctor
    Fri, May 7, 2021, 6:09 AM

White House press secretary Jen Psaki appeared on CNN Tonight With Don Lemon Thursday, after making headlines earlier in the day. In an interview with David Axelrod, with whom she worked during the Obama administration, Psaki revealed that she plans to step down from her position “in a year from now or about a year from now.”

Speaking with Lemon, Psaki reiterated that timeline, saying this has always been the plan — but she also revealed the two very good reasons why.

“This was something I told colleagues and friends, and in my discussions with the amazing people in the Biden orbit, was part of the discussion early on. I'm so honored to serve this president, and at this moment in history to be a small part of rebuilding trust in government,” Psaki said. “But I also have two little kids who are preschoolers, and I know a lot of moms who watch your show who understand that. I don't want to miss a lot of moments.”

Psaki is incredibly popular with the White House press corps, for the most part, and has gained some fans among the American people as well.

But Psaki made it clear that when she feels it’s time to go, she’ll go.

“I’ve also had the honor of serving not just this president, but a president in the past,” Psaki said. “I think at a certain point it's time to have other people serve in these jobs and roles, and have this front seat to history. And I’m hopeful that part of what I can do in this job is help build that up and help give people opportunity, and lift up some new voices and faces.”
