Former U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance on Tuesday discussed the decision by the House Select Committee investigating Jan. 6 to issue an additional ten subpoenas, including aides who were closest to former President Donald Trump throughout the day.

Speaking on an MSNBC panel of experts, Vance warned that Kayleigh McEnany is so young that her decision about whether to cooperate or not will determine her future in politics.

"It's important to remember that Congress has a different role here than DOJ might have," Vance explained about McEnany pushing the "big lie" from the White House podium. "Congress can't indict anyone. Congress' mission here is a fact-finding mission and so they'll be interested in learning all of the obvious questions that we would have here. Who told her to say this. Did she think it was true? Did she push back? There's a lot of rich information to explore with her."

What is hanging over her head, however, is how her participation could reflect on the Justice Department investigation and prosecutions.

"She's a young woman, presumably she has future stages in her career," said Vance. "So far, DOJ hasn't seemed to get serious about prosecutions. There hasn't been accountability for any of the people involved in the big lie, but she is young enough for this to haunt her and for the risk, the threat of criminal prosecution down the road to be very serious. if she were to decide to tell the truth, she could do a lot to undo the many times she took to the podium after telling us she would never lie to us."

Host Nicolle Wallace said Vance was "putting it kindly."

Former President Donald Trump's White House press secretary, Kayleigh McEnany, reportedly assured him that he'd win re-election as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Trump was having a meeting with this political team in the Oval Office, and was being presented with numbers — this was in the spring (of 2020) — showing that his re-election chances were looking grim, primarily because of what was happening with COVID. And he said, 'No, no, no, bring in Kayleigh!'" ABC News' Jonathan Karl said Tuesday on MSNBC, where he appeared to discuss his new book, Betrayal: The Final Act of the Trump Show.

"And Kayleigh comes in, and he (Trump) says, 'Kayleigh, tell them what you were just telling me,'" Karl said. "And Kayleigh McEnany tells the president of the United States, 'I think you're going to win, sir, and I think you're going to win because of COVID.'"

McEnany's theory was that Republicans' biggest weakness in the 2018 midterms had been the issue of healthcare. But with COVID dominating the news, "Democrats wouldn't be able to talk as much about healthcare," Karl explained.

"You have to get your head around this, but she was saying that because of the greatest public health crisis of our time, of the last century, they wouldn't have to talk as much about healthcare, and therefore he was going to win," Karl said, before doing a brief drum roll on his desk.

Host Nicole Wallace responded by noting that MSNBC decided early in the Trump administration not to air White House briefings by his press secretaries.

"You just gave the best defense for a decision that was at times difficult to defend," Wallace told Karl.

Former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany, who is now a Fox News host, lashed out at members of the media on Monday after President Joe Biden was seen answering questions without a face mask.

Following a press conference in which Biden discussed the new omicron Covid-19 variant, McEnany insisted that the press corps should have used its time to ask the president about images showing him not wearing a mask during the Thanksgiving holiday.

McEnany suggested that she had been treated unfairly as press secretary because she was often asked about former President Donald Trump's disdain for wearing a mask in public.

"What is he doing?" she asked. "I mean, I was asked ad nauseam about President Trump anytime he did not wear a mask and follow-ups and aggressive reporters. Where was the question from the press when President Biden just said wear a mask, why weren't you doing so on Nantucket?"

"That was irresponsible in my view for that question not to be asked!" McEnany argued. "But at the end of the day, no one has politicized this virus more than President Joe Biden. You have the mask-wearing incident there. You have Kamala [Harris] saying on the campaign trail, if Donald Trump tells me to take the vaccine, I won't take it. You have Biden mimicking that rhetoric. Then they get into office. Yay! Take the vaccine."

She added: "It is politicization of this virus on the campaign trail! They dismissed the policies, they eschewed the policies they are now putting in place. They were always effective. Where's the consistency?"

During McEnany's tenure at the White House, Trump nearly always refused to wear a mask and told his advisers that the virus protection would "send the wrong message."

Former Trump White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany this week credited divine intervention for the purported success of her first White House press briefing, where she infamously told reporters that she would never lie to them.

During an interview with Fox News, McEnany talked about the first time she had to represent the White House in front of reporters in which she admitted to being frightened of being under the spotlight.

"On a spiritual level, I was a wreck," she claimed. "I reached out to God but I still felt so much fear, which is why I got on the knees in the bathroom and I prayed."



McEnany said that this one bathroom-floor prayer did the trick and she credited Jesus Christ for giving her confidence to conduct the briefing.

"All of the sudden, when I took the podium, all those tears had melted away and I had this total serenity that was only made possible because of Christ," she said.

McEnany began her press briefing on May 1st, 2020 by pledging not to lie -- but as Vox documented at the time, she then proceeded to spout multiple falsehoods just minutes later.

Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany writes in her new memoir that she didn't lie to reporters and the public while serving in the Trump administration because she was trained at elite universities and is a Christian.

McEnany recalls being asked by the White House press corps during her first briefing as Donald Trump's fourth press secretary in May 2020 to pledge to never lie from the podium. She promised she would not and writes in, "For Such a Time As This," that she's a truthful person by nature and training.

"Of course, I would never lie," she writes. "How do you get through Oxford, Harvard, and Georgetown without sourcing? Without truthful, well-sourced, well-researched information? More importantly, as a woman of faith, a Christian, and a new mother, telling the truth was in my nature and central to my family life and faith walk."

Throughout her book, McEnany is highly critical of the press, aside from conservative outlets, and repeatedly accuses outlets of having a liberal bias and reporting unfairly about the administration. She writes that her assurance that she wouldn't lie "did not stop some in the press from spinning things wildly out of context, twisting my words, assuming the worst, and engaging in ad hominem attacks—like falsely calling me a 'liar.'"

During her time as press secretary, McEnany falsely claimed, among other things:

• Trump never downplayed the risk of the novel coronavirus.
  
  • He admitted to the veteran reporter Bob Woodward on tape that he lied about the severity of the virus so the public wouldn't panic. Multiple reports have since corroborated that.
    
• Trump won the 2020 presidential election.
  
  • He lost to Joe Biden by more than 7 million votes and lost the Electoral College by a margin of 232 to Biden's 306.
    
• The Mueller report concluded with "the complete and total exoneration of President Trump."
  
  • The special counsel's team declined to make a judgment on whether to charge Trump with a crime because of decades-old Justice Department legal guidance. But they specified, "If we had confidence after a thorough investigation of the facts that the President clearly did not commit obstruction of justice, we would so state. Based on the facts and the applicable legal standards, however, we are unable to reach that judgment."
    
• One million people attended the "Million MAGA March" after the November 2020 election in support of Trump.
  
  • As Insider previously reported, multiple news outlets estimated that attendance was more somewhere in the thousands, and Politifact added: "It's mathematically impossible for more than 135,000 people to fit in the location that McEnany tweeted a photo of."
    
• Democrats facilitated widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election.
  
  • McEnany's claims were so outlandish that Fox News anchor Neil Cavuto cut away as she was speaking in the briefing room on November 9, days after news outlets called the election for Biden. "Whoa, whoa, whoa," he said. "I just think we have to be very clear: she's charging the other side as welcoming fraud and illegal voting, unless she has more details to back that up, I can't in good countenance continue to show you this."
    
• Biden "[admitted] to voter fraud."
  
  • In October 2020, McEnany sent out a tweet saying, "Biden admits to voter fraud," accompanied by an edited and out-of-context video of the then-incoming president doing an interview on Pod Save America. In the full interview, Biden was answering a question about what he would say to those who had not voted in the 2020 election and didn't plan to. He said: "The Republicans are doing everything they can to make it harder for people to vote. We have put together, I think, the most extensive and inclusive voter fraud organization in the history of American politics."

MSNBC host Chris Hayes on Thursday night played a clip of then-White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany discussing former President Donald Trump's timeline of COVID-19 test results after he was diagnosed with the virus last year.

Hayes played the clip during a report on former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows's claim that Trump tested positive for COVID-19 on Sept. 26, prior to his first debate with President Joe Biden.

"All of the evidence points to Trump having COVID, knowing he had COVID, and spending a week spreading it around while covering it up and refusing to admit he's sick," Hayes concluded.



He went on to recall that after Trump finally announced he had COVID on Oct. 2, White House officials were "so sketchy" about when he had last tested negative -- and then he played the clip of McEnany "trying to evade this simple question" on Oct. 4.

McEnany was responding to a reporter's question about whether Trump had been tested prior to the debate on Sept. 29, or before a fundraiser in Bedminster, New Jersey, on Oct. 1.

"I'm not going to give you a detailed readout with timestamps of every time the president is tested," McEnany said. "He's tested regularly, and the first positive test he received was after his return from Bedminster."

"Again, I'm not giving a detailed readout of his testing, but it's safe to say his first positive test was upon return, or at least after, Bedminster, that trip," McEnany added.

"That's a lie. We now know, that's a lie. That clip there is a lie," Hayes said, recalling that at the time, "the squirrelliness around this was hard to ignore."

PBS News White House correspondent Yamiche Alcindor agreed, saying, "When I watched Kayleigh lie there, it just reminded me of all the different times she lied, so many times, from the podium, from the White House lawn, from the stakeout location where she is in that clip."

"It really just underscores that this was an administration that was never really playing it straight with the American people," Alcindor said.

Former Trump White House and campaign press secretary Kayleigh McEnany has appeared before the House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack.

CNN reports the meeting took place virtually.

McEnany, now a Fox News contributor, was one of ten former Trump officials "with close ties to the former president" subpoenaed by the Committee two months ago, on November 9.

According to a press release from the Committee, McEnany "made multiple public statements from the White House and elsewhere about purported fraud in the November 2020 election. For example, in the first White House press conference after the election, Ms. McEnany claimed that there were 'very real claims' of fraud that the former President’s reelection campaign was pursuing, and said that mail-in voting was something that 'we have identified as being particularly prone to fraud.' At another press conference, Ms. McEnany accused Democrats of 'welcoming fraud' and 'welcoming illegal voting.' In addition, Ms. McEnany was reportedly present at times with the former President as he watched the January 6th attack."

‘Sheer, Utter Crap’: Jake Tapper Slams Kayleigh McEnany as ‘One of the Biggest Election Liars’

CNN’s Jake Tapper slammed former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany for being “one of the biggest election liars that we know,” even as she privately agreed to try to steer former President Donald Trump away from lying about the 2020 election.

On Thursday, Tapper addressed a text exchange released by the Jan. 6 committee between McEnany and Fox News host Sean Hannity from Jan. 7, 2021 – the day after the Capitol riot. Then-President Trump had spent two months falsely telling his supporters the 2020 election had been stolen from him.

Hannity texted McEnany a five-point plan that began,


1- No more stolen election talk
2- Yes, impeachment and 25th amendment are real, and many people will quit. . . .

The 25th Amendment allows for the cabinet to deem a president “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office” and transfer his powers to the vice president in an acting capacity.

“Love that,” McEnany responded. “Thank you. That is the playbook. I will help reinforce.”

Tapper seized upon the exchange.

“We should note that Sean Hannity’s show was a major place where these election lies were told,” he said. “In fact, they’re being sued a result. And Kayleigh McEnany is one of the biggest election liars that we know.”

Later in the segment, he said, “Let me play a little clip of Kayleigh Mcenany on Fox during that era just to give you an idea of how much baseless nonsense she put out in the public sphere – paid for by your tax dollars by the way.”

In the December 2020 clip, McEnany claimed, “For President Trump to be ahead as far as he was at 3 a.m. in these four states – Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Georgia – for the vote to swing by as much as it did, the probability of that in one state is one in one quadrillion.”

Tapper reacted with disgust.

“I mean, complete nonsense,” he said. “That analysis is based on the idea–it doesn’t even take into count that Democrats overwhelmingly voted by mail and Republicans overwhelmingly voted that day. I mean, it’s just sheer, utter crap.”
