The host of “The Rachel Maddow Show” on Wednesday interviewed Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA).

The two discussed coronavirus and the impact the pandemic has had on the debates.

Maddow asked about the controversial decision by NBC News to grant President Donald Trump an exclusively town hall after he boycotted the second debate.

“Are you as mad as everybody else is that NBC is doing a town hall with President Trump tomorrow instead of the debate at the same time that Vice President Biden’s going to be on ABC?”

Maddow explains why Trump’s NBC town hall backfired on him: He got ‘run over’

MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow on Thursday recapped President Donald Trump’s NBC News town hall meeting with host Savannah Guthrie.

Maddow noted the event, “was a strange replacement for what was otherwise supposed to be the second presidential debate of this general election season. Again, the reason we got here is because President Trump dropped out of the second debate.”

The host noted the health revelations inadvertently made by Trump, his refusal to say if he had been test for COVID-19 as he promised to do before the first debate, Trump’s views on herd immunity and his admission that he probably owes overseas sources money.

“I know why the president didn’t want to do a second debate with Joe Biden. I don’t now necessarily know why he wanted to do this,” Maddow noted.

“The news that I just gave you, in terms of the admissions the president made there, all those things alone are not directions in which the president wants to be steering the national political discussion, you know, two-and-a-half weeks from the election,” Maddow explained. “But that’s what he did.”

“It did just feel like he got run down, run over by most of this. But not enough to stop him from telling a very long string of very potent lies, particularly on the issue of covid,” she noted.

I am sure most of you guys would not be able to spot a real photographer is you saw one. I spent more than ten years in the newspaper business and knew better than to try and claim I was one. Its an art form taken in milliseconds. But that is still only the function of the camera. What a real photographer does is just disappear. You can't even see or notice them capturing you in our most ungraded moments.

And the pinnacle of them all is the official White House Photographer. Going back more presidents than any of you have seen. And tonight one of the best there has ever been has a two hour uninterrupted special on MSNBC just in case anyone is really interested in the lost art form of photography.

‘Another unstable moment’: MSNBC host calls Trump’s ‘flailing’ 60 Minutes interview a campaign killer

President Donald Trump appears to believe he’s owning reporter Lesley Stahl by uploading their full conversation to his Facebook page, but according to MSNBC host Chuck Todd, it only make the president look weak.

Speaking to Washington Post reporter Robert Costa, Todd said that it was obvious Trump was looking for a new way to pivot and jump-start his failing campaign. It isn’t working, however.

“Some sort of empathetic moment, whatever it is,” said Todd. “But he looks like — he looks a bit unstable and a bit flailing. What’s the latest?”

Throughout the interview, Trump appears to be angry about Stahl for not telling him there would be “tough questions.” He alleged that the “tough questions” weren’t cleared ahead of time.

“But last time [I interviewed you], I remember you saying to me, ‘Bring it on,’” Stahl replied.

Trump said he wasn’t looking for that this time around.

At one point in the interview, Trump also takes a small glass of water and struggles to hold it again, a problem he’s had in the past but he made a joke out of during a rally, drinking water from a water bottle with one hand.

Trump also walked out of the interview once Stahl began asking questions about the “lock her up” chants at the Trump rallies. He denied wanting to “lock up” anyone.

“Part of this, Chuck, it seems, based on the president’s actions and the actions of his White House is to build up an opponent who is not Joe Biden,” said Costa. “And that opponent is members of the media. And you saw that today, notably, over the last couple of days with this discussion drawn out about the ’60 Minutes’ interview, t president leaving it and it getting posted on the president’s Facebook page. the shot of just him answering Lesley Stahl’s questions there. the trump campaign and the president himself, he has done this for years, chuck. You know this. His work to essentially tell his supporters and sell this argument to his supporters that he is being treated unfairly by members of the media.”

Costa noted it’s something Trump’s followers eat up and it might be an issue he can use to help encourage his base.

Todd wondered what would happen with the last debate when nearly 50 million people have already voted.

“I’m fixated on this with the president and his just amazing instability,” said Todd. “We’re sort of — we had four years of this, but when you really look at him particularly since he — since he contracted the virus, the flailing. This business with ’60 Minutes’ is yet another, you know, unstable moment. Flailing at Christopher Wray because he’s trying to recreate 2016. He wants a letter or something. I guess that’s what he’s trying to do here. He knows he’s behind and just trying to find, what worked in October of ’16. Let’s try it again. The FBI bailed me out. Maybe they’ll do it again. But this is not a confident incumbent, that’s for sure.”

MSNBC’s John Heilemann said President Donald Trump at least seemed somewhat sedate during the last presidential debate before the Nov. 3 election.

The “Morning Joe” contributor said the president indulged in his grievances during his debate against Joe Biden, but he wondered whether most viewers understood the references he made to various Fox News storylines.

“I think quaalude Trump is better than crystal meth Trump, you know, from the last debate,” Heilemann said. “That was, like, an improvement, I think.”

“He needed one extra ‘lude to get him through the whole thing, and he wasn’t quite there,” Heilemann added. “Quaalude Trump was still not that great. Joe Biden, I think, you know, he’s best one-on-one. I think his previous best debate performance was one-on-one against Bernie Sanders. I thought Biden was clear, on point and making his arguments and did not tire, as he sometimes has in some of the debates. He was strong, I thought, throughout.”

Heilemann said the president failed to land many of his attacks simply because they were too far into the weeds for most viewers to understand.

“They brought their fact witness, Tony Bobulinsky or ‘Baba Booey’ or whoever, that guy, refused to take questions at the press conference, and it’s not that there were no facts. As it turns out after the Wall Street Journal debunked the story, but Donald Trump’s lack of preparation, guys, I think, came through. Those Hunter Biden hits are complicated, and Trump was not well versed in them, so it sounded to me like gobbledygook. It was just gibberish coming out of his mouth. The big guy, you’re the big guy, he said to Biden, you didn’t understand that unless you’re in the Fox News bubble already, you didn’t understand a lot of the things that Trump was trying to say.”

Anti-Trump MSNBC host Joy Reid thinks rural Americans are 'core threat' to democracy

MSNBC host Joy Reid thinks that rural Americans are “the core threat to our democracy” and pointed to a series of tweets by liberal author Jared Yates Sexton that claimed Trump supporters “do not believe in the Constitution or any founding principles unless they're advantageous” as proof of her far-left theory.

“By 2040, about 70% of Americans are expected to live in the 15 largest states. They will have only 30 senators representing them, while the remaining 30% of Americans will have 70 senators representing them,” MSNBC producer Kyle Griffin tweeted over the weekend.

Reid, who tweets so often that it’s amazing she finds time to do anything else, has a feed that is essentially the anti-Trump talking points of the far left on a daily basis. While Sexton never specifically mentioned the “rural minority” in his rant, the MSNBC host took it upon herself to quote Griffin’s tweet add her own commentary tied to Sexton's thread.

“This is the core threat to our democracy. The rural minority -- the people @JYSexton just wrote a long thread about -- have and will continue to have disproportionate power over the urban majority,” Reid tweeted.

Reid said gerrymandering reform and “the abolition of the Electoral College would be a start” when engaging with followers on how to fix the issue.

The Resurgent editor, radio host and Fox News contributor Erick Erickson responded, “Griffin's original tweet and Reid's response highlight a core threat to our constitutional system: basic ignorance.”

Reid seems to use hateful rhetoric on a regular basis and has called Trump supporters “deplorables,” claimed that living in Trump’s America is the “worst time to be a human” in the history of the world and even referred to the Trump administration as “the apocalypse” in recent memory.

While outwardly mocking Middle America, Reid pointed to the Twitter rant of the man who recently published an anti-Trump book titled, “The People Are Going to Rise Like the Waters Upon Your Shore,” that reflects on the Trump movement. Sexton recently tweeted that “Midwesterners put up Confederate flags” because of “racism” but also “dream of being able to rise up and remake this country into a fascist place.” However, that comment was tweeted after Sexton inspired Reid with his 22-tweet thread.

“With Trump's base showing strong preferences for authoritarianism, and continuing to support a serial predator of children, it's time to look this problem in its face,” Sexton wrote to kick off the thread that inspired the MSNBC host to mock rural Americans. “This isn't a political problem. This is a societal issue, a major, major existential problem with who we are and how we view the world.”

He continued, saying the problem isn’t about Democrats and Republicans but rather “a substantial group in this country who are okay with a president who would stamp out free speech, free press, and are comfortable with foreign influence and collusion.” Sexton said the people he was referencing don’t care about mass shootings, support fascism and “didn't blink when a woman was murdered by white supremacists,” -- an apparent reference to the killing in Charlottesville, Va., last August.

“They only care about our laws and customs when they help them. They do not believe in the Constitution or any founding principles unless they're advantageous,” he wrote. “They've always been here. They've been slaveholders. They've been confederates. They've been our neighbors. They've been our family.”

He continued: “Republicans fostered them as a means to push their policies and leveraged their worst instincts. Now, they've lost hold of the leash and have been taken over from the inside.”

Sexton said Trump “didn’t create” the issue but “is the total personification of this worldview.”

The liberal author added, “there's literally no telling what they'll stand by” and noted that “there are Americans who hold Adolf Hitler in high regard” because he had “good” ideas.

“If people like Trump continue to push them further, there's literally no telling what they'll allow or what they'll support. This is how a democracy backslides into a fascist state,” Sexton wrote.

Erickson wrote, “To have a national ‘news’ host call rural America a ‘core threat’ to our democracy is both striking arrogance and striking ignorance.”

Biden cares more about the well-being of Trump supporters than Trump himself: MSNBC’s Joy Reid

On MSNBC Wednesday, anchor Joy Reid broke down how Joe Biden has more concern for the health and safety of President Donald Trump’s voters than the president does himself.

“There are now just six days left for America to decide who will lead our country for the next four years,” said Reid. “Now at a breaking point and desperate for progress on the economy, race relations, and a coronavirus crisis that has taken more than 228,000 lives and infected millions more. In the face of these numbers, Trump continues to utilize his favorite form of gaslighting, which is lying through his teeth on the COVID surge, even getting the so-called White House Science Office to say Trump ended the pandemic, as the nation hits record cases and hospitalizations.”

“Now, first of all, you should never trust anything affiliated with Trump called the Science Office,” said Reid. “And secondly, a lie of this magnitude is deliberately harming you and your loved ones and stoking a Trumpian delusion around the pandemic. But that delusion is getting punctured every day by none other than COVID itself.”

“And then last night, blue lips in MAGAland,” said Reid. “Hundreds of Trump supporters were left stranded for hours in freezing temperatures after a superspreader rally in Omaha, Nebraska, because buses couldn’t get them home long after Trump flew away in the toasty comfort of Air Force One. The perfect metaphor for the Trump campaign? Joe Biden sure thinks so.”

“Just look at what happened last night in Omaha,” said Biden in the clip. “Hundreds of people, including older Americans and children, were stranded in sub-zero freezing temperatures for hours. Several folks ended up in the hospital. It’s an image that captured President Trump’s whole approach to this crisis. He gets his photo-op and he gets out. He leaves everyone else to suffer the consequence of his failure to make a responsible plan.”

“It strikes me that Joe Biden cares more about Donald Trump’s supporters than Donald Trump does,” added Reid. “[Trump] was like, oh, I didn’t even wear a hat. What better place is there to be in 10-degree weather with all these senior citizens and then left them stranded?”

Chris Hayes Slams Trump Admin for Having ‘Surrendered’ to Raging Covid Pandemic: ‘If They Love Their Country, They Should Start Acting Like It’

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes slammed President Donald Trump and his failed White House response for having effectively “surrendered” in the fight against a coronavirus pandemic that is currently spiking in nearly every state in the country.

“The best form of patriotism is that you love your country not because it’s better than other countries. You love it the same way you love your family, because it’s yours,” Hayes said during the opening monologue of his Wednesday night show. “And you fight for it because it’s yours. And this country, our country we all share together, is in unbelievable distress right now.”

The MSNBC host then provided a devastating and depressing rundown of the dire state of the Covid-19 outbreak, which has exploded since Election Day even as Trump has hunkered down in the White House and all but avoided any public events.

And Hayes is far from alone.

The former head of CDC, Dr. Richard Besser, sounded the alarm on Wednesday, warning that the Covid spikes are “dangerous” while calling out the lack response from the nation’s political leadership. And as of this writing, the Covid Tracking Project found new records in both daily cases and hospitalizations — daily deaths are back to near the peak lever hit over the summer.

“What would a patriotic government that cared about its own people be doing right now?” Hayes asked. “Well, you think for a second about what you would be doing for a loved one in your family, if someone you loved, cared for, were in a hospital, receiving very obviously substandard care, neglected, left to essentially care for themselves as they were eaten away by a plague. You would not tolerate it.”

Hayes then showed a map of the country that was entirely red except for Vermont and Maine, the only two states not currently categorized as having “uncontrolled spread.”

“This graph shows new reported cases by day nationwide. New cases are so high that they dwarf the previous two spikes we saw this summer,” he pointed out. “The country is on fire, and it’s not an accident. This is the Trump administration’s current policy, what you are seeing.”

Hayes then showed footage of a Republican campaign rally for that party’s two Senate candidates, which was held in a packed conference room where few were wearing masks.

“Republicans have their eyes on the prize, and that’s not defeating the virus, and that’s not saving your loved ones from dying in the plague but trying to secure a senate majority,” he said.

“The president’s sulking and watching golf and cable news,” Hayes said. “And the rest of the Republican party, the whole party, complicit in all this, focused on the Georgia runoff and maybe overturning the results of a democratic election to stay in power against the people’s will. But if they love their country, they should start acting like it.”

Chuck Todd: If a Foreign Leader Was Acting Like Trump Is Now, State Dept ‘Would Be Issuing Grim Reports’ About Their Democracy

Chuck Todd opened Sunday’s Meet the Press going off on President Donald Trump’s attacks on the election and his baseless claims of it being stolen from him.

Todd took note of Joe Biden’s win “by a comfortable electoral vote margin” before saying, “The President of the United States refuses to concede the election, claiming falsely that it was somehow stolen. His attorney general is currently encouraging investigations into voter fraud, despite a lack of evidence that any exists. His secretary of state is suggesting the president will be inaugurated for a second term.”

And after noting Trump is putting loyalists in key positions during this lame duck period, Todd said, “If this were happening anywhere else, our State Department would be issuing grim reports about the future of that country’s democracy. But that country is this country — it’s happening here.”

He also called out the Trump team for its refusal to begin the proper transition process and preventing Biden’s team from getting briefings, particularly on the coronavirus pandemic amid alarming surges across the country.

“President Trump is refusing to acknowledge two realities: his defeat and Covid-19. But the virus does not care,” Todd said.

MSNBC segment attacks white women, claims 'active role in white supremacy'
A guest on the panel accused white women of weaponizing their identities against black men

MSNBC on Saturday devoted an entire segment to attacking white women, a demographic who the panel maintained was active in supporting “white supremacy.”

Host Tiffany Cross asked the panel whether white women’s “overwhelming” support for President Trump in the 2020 election was a vote “for” Trump or “against Biden-Harris with the emphasis on (Vice President-Elect) Harris?”

Julie Kohler, a Senior Advisor at Democracy Alliance, answered that their support of President Trump represented a “maintenance of the status quo.”

“Pluralities of white women have been voting for Republican candidates for the better part of 70 years,” Kohler said. “And I think one of the important things that we can hopefully take from this election, is that these are long-standing patterns that are unlikely to change.”

She then criticized the notion that “white women” are the “better angels of white people,” because they have supposedly “taken an active role in the maintenance of white supremacy.”

“We still see those legacies today, whether it’s Amy Cooper or the ‘Permit Patties,’ or white women that have weaponized their identities against especially black men who threaten their privilege. These are long-standing entrenched patterns,” Kohler said.

Iconic singer-songwriter turned 79 earlier this year

MSNBC was forced to issue a correction over the weekend after falsely stating that music legend Bob Dylan had died last year.

MSNBC reported on Dylan memorabilia being sold an auction when the progressive network prematurely killed the famed singer-songwriter.

“A long-lost trove of unpublished Bob Dylan documents, including lyrics, were sold at auction for $495,000 to anonymous buyer. The singer of many anthems of the 1960s, Dylan dying last year at the age of 79,” an MSNBC anchor said on Saturday.

MSNBC’s Joshua Johnson had to clean up the mess later in the day after the network was widely mocked on social media for the gaffe.

“A quick correction, some of you online have already caught it, in our headlines just not we mentioned a trove of Bob Dylan’s documents being released. We accidentally said that he died last year. Bob Dylan is very much alive, he turned 79 this year. Sorry about that,” Jackson told viewers.

On Tuesday night, Axios reported that Donald Trump had informed confidants he will pardon former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn for lying to the FBI about his Russian contacts.

During the handoff between their MSNBC shows, Rachel Maddow discussed the reporting with Lawrence O’Donnell — and offered an intriguing explanation that it may be linked to the Trump campaign’s legal woes.

“Good evening, Rachel,” O’Donnell said. “And on the day that the president pardoned the turkey, as is traditional, the talk of pardons has started tonight. There’s a new report out tonight saying Trump confidants say he plans to pardon Michael Flynn.”

Maddow quickly offered a fascinating analysis.

“Michael Flynn’s lawyer, you’ll remember, is the crazy Qanon lady who did the Grecian Formula-failure press conference with Rudy Giuliani and then said, you know, the Georgia Republican governor was in cahoots with Hugo Chavez — who’s dead — in order to rig the election,” Maddow noted, referring to Sidney Powell.

“I mean, that’s Mike Flynn’s lawyer,” she continued. “So when the Trump folks put out the statement throwing her under the bus this weekend, maybe that was the agreement to soften the blow. “Don’t worry, we’ll pardon your felon National Security Adviser client for lying about his contacts with the Russian government, don’t worry, we’ll pardon him too so you’ll get something out of the deal.'”

‘Pathetic’ Trump ridiculed by MSNBC guest for latest attention-grabbing stunts: ‘He’s the Republicans’ problem’ now

Appearing on MSNBC’s “AM Joy” with host Maria Teresa Kumar, conservative Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin ridiculed Donald Trump for whining about his election loss and making plans to disrupt President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration in January, saying the president can’t stand not being the center of attention.

Asked about the president wanting to possibly hold a rally on Biden’s swearing-in day, Rubin labeled the president as “pathetic.”

“I think it’s somewhat ridiculous and it’s also a good test for the media, frankly,” Rubin responded. “There is absolutely no bigger story than the inauguration of Joe Biden and no one should cover Trump’s [ inaudible]. This is pathetic — jumping up and down, ‘me, me, me.'”

“In point of fact he is going to do all sorts of things and he is not the center of our political life anymore — he is not the story,” she continued. “I think Kamala Harris may have been amused that this is now Republicans’ problem to deal with. He is the one who is now going to be hanging like a dark cloud over the 2024 wannabes, so let them cope with him and they should ignore him thoroughly and get on with the business of governing the country.”
