WATCH: MSNBC’s Damning Montage of Republicans Portraying Insurrectionists as ‘Peaceful Patriots’ and Normal Tourists
    By Colby HallMay 13th, 2021, 7:18 am
    2704 Comments

    upload_2021-5-13_10-57-19.png

Several Republican members of the House of Representatives openly dismissed the actions of Trump supporters who attacked the Capitol on January 6th, calling them “peaceful patriots” and downplaying their violent attacks on Capitol Police by comparing them to normal actions of everyday tourists visiting the Capitol Building.

This came during a House Oversight Committee hearing on Wednesday. Morning Joe producers thoughtfully put together a quick montage of these comments for viewers to see Thursday morning, which featured Republican Congressmen Paul Gosar, Andrew Clyde, Jody Hice, and Pat Fallon, each dismissing the actions of the Trump supporters who left the speech given by former President Donald Trump to go to the Capitol and ostensibly interrupt the Electoral College certification process that was underway at the time.

Mika Brzezinski set up the montage by introducing “several members of the Trump wing of the Republican party offer blatantly false accounts of what happened that day.”

Rep. Hice is first seen saying, “It was Trump supporters who lost their lives that day, not Trump supporters who were taking the lives of others.”

    Oh?

Rep. Gosar went more conspiratorial, demanding answers for his constituents. “The truth is being censored and covered up,” he insisted, adding, “As a result, the DOJ is harassing peaceful patriots across the country.”

Rep. Fallon was out here just asking questions, like, “So was January 6th an insurrection, or could it be more accurately described as a mob of misfits?”

And Rep. Clyde won the prize by concluding with, “There was no insurrection, and to call it an insurrection, in my opinion, is a bald-faced lie. Watching the TV footage of those who entered the capitol and walked through statutory hall showed people in an orderly fashion, taking videos and pictures. If you didn’t know the TV footage was a video from January the 6th, you would actually think it was a normal tourist video.”

After viewers were treated with the above quotes, Morning Joe aired new bodycam footage that emerged last night in which one can hear Officer Michael Fanone pleading with the insurrectionist to spare him because he has kids.

Much of the commentary that unfolded during Wednesday’s hearing was underreported, lost in the House Republican leadership drama that unfolded on Wednesday that saw vocal Trump critic Rep. Liz Cheney replaced in House GOP leadership by Trump supporter Rep. Elise Stefanik.

Charlie Sykes explained the phenomenon as “retconning,” which he explained as “you simply rewrite the history, pretend what happened didn’t happen and put your own spin on it.” He then added, “But for a party that has been devolving, yesterday really was extraordinary in so many respects, and you can only imagine what it will be like if Kevin McCarthy and those guys take the majority next year.”

Way too fucking little way too fucking late. One of the ways we sunk to the level of shit hole country is the MSM and especially this phony fuck would bring Trump sycophants and treasonous conservative/Republicans on their shows and then just sit there an let them lie. And Chuck Todd said it was not his job to know who was lying. Which let Trump's lies and false right wing propaganda spread like cancer. It nearly rotted the nation from the inside out. And its all well and good they are finally calling out the lies now. But if they had been doing it from the beginning right wing domestic terrorists would not be our biggest threat right now.

'Don't start that': NBC's Chuck Todd shuts down GOPer Dan Crenshaw for attacking reporting on Trump's election lies

"Meet the Press" host Chuck Todd shook himself out of his normal complacency on Sunday morning after Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) objected to reporting on Donald Trump's continual complaints the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him.

With the conservative Crenshaw saying questions about the election need to be left behind, host Todd brought up the former president's statement on Saturday calling the election the "Crime of the century."

That is when the battle began.

With Todd accusing the Republican of previously questioning the election results and adding "what you did gets weaponized by the former president," Crenshaw fired back.

"He's one of many leaders," Crenshaw stated before asserting, "You guys in the press love doing this -- and I get it. The press is largely liberal…"

That was when the NBC host cut him off and talked over him.

"Don't start that. There's nothing lazier than that excuse," Todd lectured as Crenshaw whined, "I'm not going to take the bait."

"I'm not trying to bait you," Todd shot back.

'The bigots have won': Charlie Sykes scolds 'incredibly naive' never-Trumpers who refuse to quit GOP

Never-Trump Republican Charlie Sykes on MSNBC (image via screengrab).

Longtime conservative Charlie Sykes argued this week some Republicans are "incredibly naive" for thinking that they can save the party from former President Donald Trump.

On Monday, Sykes appeared on MSNBC to talk about his recent op-ed advising "never-Trump" Republicans that it is "time say goodbye" to their party.

Sykes said that he respected Republicans like Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) and Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) for their well-intentioned efforts to save the "soul" of the GOP.

"I think it's incredibly naive to think that there's actually a chance to salvage the party," Sykes explained. "They wrote a piece in the Washington Post last week saying the ouster of Liz Cheney doesn't mean the fight is over. The fight for the soul of the Republican Party is just beginning. Well, that's just wrong."

"The war is over," he continued. "The conspiracy theorists, the cranks, the bigots have won. And I just think as a matter of reality, we need to understand that."

Sykes noted that Trump's "big lie" about the 2020 election had become a litmus test for Republicans.

"That tells you where the Republican Party is," he observed. "It's time for a reality check here that those of us who had hoped that somehow the Republican Party find a way to heal itself or crawl back to rationality, that is just not going to happen anytime soon."

‘This wasn’t a leak’: Morning Joe explains why New York’s Trump investigation is so serious

    Travis Gettys

    MSNBC

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough has grown impatient, to put it mildly, with leaks from investigators promising comeuppance for one character or another -- but he said the New York attorney general's revelations about the Trump Organization are something different.

New York attorney general Letitia James' office announced the investigation of Donald Trump's family business now had a criminal component, in addition to an ongoing civil investigation, and the "Morning Joe" host explained why this felt different.

"I've been growing impatient over the past months over leaks from the FBI and other prosecutors saying, 'Oh, behind the scenes we hear this or that or whatever,'" Scarborough said. "I've now read 437 articles about how what happened today makes Matt Gaetz's situation worse. I keep reading about Rudy Giuliani. We got used during the Trump era, a leak here, a leak there. It happened back during the Bush era. Karl Rove, every Friday they would say, hey, make sure you're around to go to the TV studio. Karl Rove, this is the day we just heard from the FBI a leak that Karl Rove is going to go to jail. Blah blah."

"This wasn't a leak," he added. "This actually was from the office. I don't know if that means anything. I'm not sure about why you announce we are now investigating him for criminal -- do your investigation. Bring the charges or don't bring the charges. But, again, this really wasn't a leak. This is the office basically saying we're looking into criminal charges against Donald Trump."

Now remember Joe Scarborough has always been a Republican until Trump started falsely accusing him of murder.

‘Leave our country!’ Morning Joe blasts friends and family still questioning Trump’s election loss

    Travis Gettys
    May 21, 2021

    MSNBC

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough lashed out at his friends and family members who are still clinging to the lie that Donald Trump had the election stolen from him.

The "Morning Joe" host spent much of Friday's broadcast railing against the people who once insisted, "America -- love it or leave it," and he said that questioning President Joe Biden's legitimacy based on the flimsiest possible evidence was an insult to the Constitution and democracy itself.

"I see the conspiracy theories, I have people sending them to me all the time," Scarborough said. "I walk through it. Every single conspiracy theory is easily disproven in about two, three minutes -- every single one, every single one -- and yet they don't want to go on Google. They don't want to know the truth. They want to know what's true to them. They want to know their truth and their truth is this election was rigged."

He called out officials in Arizona who are legitimizing conspiracy theories with their farcical "audit" of Maricopa County's results, which will likely result in the costly replacement of voting machines there.

"It's just such nonsense that they think Republicans running Arizona in Maricopa County and Republicans running the Georgia election are going to rig those elections," he said, "and you look at the vote counts, county by county, and it's just lazy and it's stupid. It's a lazy stupid conspiracy theory, and I say it's lazy, because all people would have to do is just do about five minutes of investigating when they see these lies spewed at them and they would do the truth. But they don't want to know the truth."

"You know the Bible verse when it says, people could walk in darkness in light and know the difference between darkness and light and still choose darkness," Scarborough added. "That's what's happening here. People could know the difference between truth and lies. They don't want you to tell them the truth. They don't want to investigate for five minutes."

Blindly swallowing those lies, Scarborough said, was far worse than former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick's silent -- and hugely controversial to some -- protest against police brutality and systemic racism.

"They want to wallow in the lie that allows them to think horrible things about American democracy, that allows them to do things that has been far worse than desecrating the American flag, than is far worse than kneeling on sidelines before football games," Scarborough said. "What they're doing is desecrating democracy, they're desecrating American institutions. They're desecrating all the things that the American flag is a symbol of. So you will fight to the death for the symbol, you just won't give a damn for a second about the thing that symbol stands for -- Madisonian democracy, the Constitution of the United States, the people's House, the center of democracy, not just in America, but across the globe. So you're going to freak out over somebody not paying enough respect for a symbol, but you're just going to -- I'll just say, throw dirt all over everything that symbol represents, and you do it every day."

"This is not about Joe Biden, this stopped being about Joe Biden a long time ago," he continued. "This is about you, this is about you playing in to what every one of our enemies wants you to play into, that American democracy is not worth being trusted, that American democracy is no different than Russia. If you believe that, I will say to you what many of you said in the 1960s: America, love it or leave it! If you don't have respect in American democracy anymore, if you don't respect Madisonian checks and balances, if your guy doesn't win, if that's the new rules of engagement for this great republic, then just leave our country, because you're unworthy of it, and there are millions of immigrants who will come here and raise their right hand and buy into the creed and believe that we are exceptional, that believe American democracy is the greatest government on the face of the earth, and they will do it proudly! They will salute the flag proudly, and most importantly, they will fight for what that flag represents, while you shame yourself, while you disgrace yourself, while you disgrace our country in the eyes of the world. Yes, this is all on you."

"Get the facts, live in the light, follow the truth and love this country, and stop this -- or leave," Scarborough added. "Or leave if you're going to believe a reality TV show host's lies about the American republic, his desecration of American exceptionalism. Then just get the hell out, we don't want you here. That's all I've got to say."

MSNBC panel unleashes on 'moral bankruptcy' of Marjorie Greene and 'snowflakes' in the Republican Party

    Sarah K. Burris
    May 24, 2021

    John Heilemann (MSNBC)

MSNBC commentator John Heilemann unleashed on Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) for her anti-Semitic attacks and downplaying of the Holocaust. He followed by going full bore against the Republican Party for continuing to be "snowflakes" over wearing masks.

"I mean, it was so bad for the last four years that it's kind of like, can you measure something either less than zero or more than infinite?" Heilemann philosophized. "It's like there's some kind of quantum physics problem with that. But they are, you know, anybody who had any thought things would get anyway, even a minuscule, you know, micrometer better once Trump left has been -- should be recognizing that it's not gotten better and I think it has in some ways gotten worse."

He explained that Greene makes things difficult because she's both "disgusting and anti-Semitic," but "she's just such a moron, it's not clear to me, fully, that she understands exactly the depth of how horrible what she's saying is."

Still, Republicans, who purport to support Israel, haven't been brave enough to step up against her remarks.

"When you listen to her talk about it, try to explain it, you come up against the fact that she's just a pinhead and I think she says these things about -- draws these comparisons — I don't think she has the moral complexity to understand why Jews find these comments so appalling," said Heilemann. "I don't think she has the kind of -- she doesn't have the kind of moral sense to be able to understand how offensive what she's doing is. But I will also say this: yet again, when you listen to these comments that someone like this makes, you're reminded of just what a bunch of snowflakes this Republican Party is."

Heilemann went on to call the GOP "a big hate machine," noting that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) can't denounce Greene's hate because if he did, he'd be forced to denounces the whole party for their hate for whatever group du jour they're going after that day.

"The core of her complaint is basically -- and I think in her head, she somehow believes — that being asked to wear a mask on the floor of the House, that there's concerns about, you know, we're trying to still keep you from getting sick, we're worried that some people are not vaccinated, that having mask mandates that continue going forward, she actually thinks in some way there is some equivalence between that and being put on a train and sent to a gas chamber," Heilemann suspected. And beyond the stupidity and the moral bankruptcy of it, it is just such an incredibly whiny, kind of ridiculous thing to say. 'Oh, I am so put upon. Wearing this mask, it's so terrible that I'm going to draw an analogy to the Holocaust.' I mean, could you be more of a snowflake in addition to being a moron and a totally morally bankrupt moron at that. You couldn't be more of a snowflake than to complain in that way. It blows my mind."

MSNBC contributor loses it on Joe Manchin: 'You want me dead as much as some of these Republicans do'
Jason Johnson predicted Capitol riot would happen again without Manchin ensuring commission bill passes the Senate
    5/28/2021

MSNBC contributor Jason Johnson railed against Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., Thursday in a wild segment seemingly focused on slamming the moderate Democrat for his efforts at bipartisanship.

The far-left university professor joined host Joy Reid and fellow contributor Susan Del Percio in blasting Manchin over his opposition to ending the Senate filibuster rule, in order to establish a commission to investigate the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

Reid told Johnson if 10 Republicans couldn't agree they should investigate the attempt to "decapitate our government," then the argument surrounding bipartisanship over the commission bill was dead.

Johnson agreed that it was a dead argument, and went on to claim Manchin was taking his stance against eliminating the filibuster because he was concerned about his own legacy. He then predicted Manchin would lose his next election in 2024 regardless of his stance, and therefore should vote with Democrats in removing the Senate filibuster rule.

"The idea that he will still spout this nonsense in the face of an attempt to murder him and everybody with a 'D' in their name is disturbing to me. And I don’t see the value, honestly, at this point, in Democrats treating him with kid gloves," Johnson said. "Personally … I [as a Democratic Senator] would say, look, if you aren’t in favor of this commission, then you want me dead as much as some of these Republicans do. That's how I'd be talking about it at this point."

"I don’t understand the recalcitrance on the part of one or two senators against simply getting rid of the filibuster in this particular instance to do something, because I promise you, and this is not because we want this to happen … it’s going to happen again," he said. "The people who did this will simply try again, and this commission’s the only way to possibly prevent it."

"There is a sense that Manchin is also out of control and thinks he’s the majority leader. Manchin is exercising control as if he’s in charge of the Senate. Doesn’t that have to stop?" Reid asked Johnson.

"Yeah, yeah. This flex that he’s going on here, it’s not impressive. It’s not making anybody happy. It’s not him. It's not his drip. Whatever," Johnson replied.

The commission bill, which passed the House with 35 Republicans joining nearly every Democrat in voting in favor, would require support from at least 10 Republican senators to pass the Senate with a 60-vote filibuster proof majority.

‘This is what Trump wanted’: NYT reporter explains DOJ spying on Adam Schiff

White House photo by Joyce N. Boghosian

MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow was shocked after the latest bombshell report on the Trump administration.

"This is a big deal," Maddow said. "But in all the time I have been in this business, I have never covered anything quite like this before. I have never read about anything like this before happening in American politics, in government. As far as we know, nothing like this has ever happened before."

"But just within the last hour, The New York Times has broken a whole new level of the story, and, again, this is not just sort of a shocking revelation about the Trump Justice Department. this is something, as far as we can tell, that has never been done before in U.S. government — and it has profound implications for the separation of powers between the branches of government," she explained.

"As the Justice Department investigated who was behind leaks of classified information early in the Trump administration, it took a highly unusual step: Prosecutors subpoenaed Apple for data from the accounts of at least two Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee, aides and family members. One was a minor," The New York Times reported Thursday. "All told, the records of at least a dozen people tied to the committee were seized in 2017 and early 2018, including those of Representative Adam B. Schiff of California, then the panel's top Democrat and now its chairman, according to committee officials and two other people briefed on the inquiry."

Both Bill Barr and Jeff Sessions are implicated.

"Prosecutors, under the beleaguered attorney general, Jeff Sessions, were hunting for the sources behind news media reports about contacts between Trump associates and Russia. Ultimately, the data and other evidence did not tie the committee to the leaks, and investigators debated whether they had hit a dead end and some even discussed closing the inquiry," the newspaper reported. "But William P. Barr revived languishing leak investigations after he became attorney general a year later. He moved a trusted prosecutor from New Jersey with little relevant experience to the main Justice Department to work on the Schiff-related case and about a half-dozen others, according to three people with knowledge of his work who did not want to be identified discussing federal investigations."

For analysis, Maddow interviewed Michael Schmidt, one of the reporters who wrote the piece.

"I think that the most important thing or the biggest sort of -- one of the more fundamental problems with the entire episode is that this is what Donald Trump wanted, and this is why legal experts and people on both sides of the aisle say that the president of the United States should not weigh in about criminal investigations, and he should not talk about using the Justice Department to target a rival because if the Justice Department does something, it is seen immediately through that lens. We look at this, and we say, Adam Shiff, a constant target of Donald Trump, has his entire staff and one of the staff's children subpoenaed, has their information subpoenaed from Apple. This is exactly what the president said publicly and privately that he wanted," Schmidt said.

MSNBC Is Mad That Nobody Likes Kamala Harris
By Jeff Charles | Jun 15, 2021 5:15 PM ET

Media activist outlet MSNBC is not happy with you, dear reader. In fact, it seems employees of the network are deeply offended that people like you are criticizing Vice President Kamala Harris. During Saturday’s “The Week with Joshua Johnson,” media activist Zerlina Maxwell and her guest, Anushay Hossain, engaged in a rather absurd conversation on those who dare to utter an unkind word about Harris.

And what, pray tell, was their assessment of those who give anything less than glowing praise for the vice president? You guessed it: They’re all racist and sexist!

As you already know, Harris has been criticized by people on both sides of the aisle for her increasingly evident incompetence when it comes to issues like the border crisis and others. Maxwell complained that there was supposedly no way for the vice president to win due to her gender. Hossain agreed: “But because she is a woman and a woman of color, the level of scrutiny that she is getting from both the left and the right is really off the charts.”

During the segment, Maxwell and Hossain attempted to convince their audience that white male politicians never get criticized as harshly as Harris. Hossain even stated that black women are “written off as hysterical.”

Hossain compared the treatment of former President Donald Trump’s senior adviser, Jared Kushner, to how Harris is being maligned for her milquetoast response to the border crisis.

“And, you know, it’s interesting that you mention the part about white men, Zerlina because we always give them the benefit of the doubt. No one criticized Jared Kushner once for not delivering peace to the Middle East. But people really do expect Kamala Harris, our vice president, to solve the border issue overnight,” she said.

Of course, Hossain was forgetting the ongoing onslaught of criticism that Kushner received from the left about any and everything he ever did. Or perhaps she just figured the audience wouldn’t remember?

Hossain also appeared to cover for Harris’ ineptitude in relation to her trips to Guatemala and Mexico last week, blaming it on those tasked with preparing her with effective messaging.

“She’s — the reason she’s in such a tricky position is because the Republicans are very good on this issue. Not good on this issue with solutions and policy, but with their messaging and with their false information. And basically lies. They have framed this issue. So they have their talking points already ready to go,” she said.

She added: “To be quite blunt with you Zerlina, it is shocking that the Vice President wasn’t briefed better, wasn’t prepared better with her language — with her language on her wording on such a complicated issue because for the Republicans going to the border is a photo opportunity”

Maxwell chimed in, arguing that “women and men aren’t assessed through the same lens, and that’s one thing we have to keep in mind whenever we’re talking about the Vice President.”

Hossain concurred: “And as you and I know Zerlina, and especially as you know as a black woman, women of color, we’re not allowed to get emotional or be angry. We will be dismissed and written off as hysterical so fast, faster than you say border.”

There you have it, folks. The problem is not that Vice President Kamala Harris is clearly bad at her job. The problem is that people like you are racist and sexist. Your raging bigotry is blinding you to how wonderfully effective Harris is. Your seething hatred for women of color prevents you from seeing how effectively she has dealt with the border crisis.

Perhaps if we take time to study the works of grifters educators like Robin DiAngelo, we could finally see that the thousands upon thousands of unaccompanied minors coming to the border every month is not the Biden administration’s fault. We might understand that rescinding Trump’s border policies was the best thing that could happen and celebrate the return of “Catch and Release.” If you are still thinking that Harris is failing at her job, you might want to check your privilege.
