'Rachel Maddow Show' producer's big mistake reveals network's fear of debating firebrand GOP rep

A producer for "The Rachel Maddow Show" accidentally copied Rep. Madison Cawthorn's, R-N.C., office on an email Monday worrying Cawthorn might ask to come on the MSNBC program if they asked him for comment about a story.

A senior "Maddow" producer emailed a Capitol Hill NBC News colleague regarding an Associated Press piece about a small North Carolina group disputing Cawthorn's re-election candidacy because he addressed the pro-Trump Jan. 6 rally last year.

According to Cawthorn's office, apparently unaware the congressman's team was copied on the message, he asked his colleague to request comment from Cawthorn for fear that if a "Maddow" representative did it, "he might ask to come on and explain … don't want to take that risk."

"We are kinda interested in this AP story (below) that just dropped about Rep. Madison Cawthorn. A group of voters in NC is challenging his candidacy based on his ties to the insurrection," the producer wrote, according to the email obtained by Fox News Digital. "1. Do you or any other NBC Hill folks plan to ask him for comment on this story? 2. If not, is that something you guys could do? We don’t have a relationship with his office and between you and me are a little worried that if we did inquire he might ask to come on and explain. I know that is HIGHLY doubtful, but don’t want to take that risk. Luke Ball (?) I guess is the spox quoted?"

The NBC colleague said they'd contact Cawthorn's representative for them.

Maddow, MSNBC's top-rated liberal host, has been sharply critical of Cawthorn and other "MAGA" Republicans in Donald Trump's camp. Asked for comment by Fox News Digital, Cawthorn replied with a statement that MSNBC feared him bursting its "woke dystopian bubble."

"Fake news MSNBC doesn’t want to ‘take the risk’ that I’ll come on their show and trigger the left with my America First message and burst their woke dystopian bubble," Cawthorn said. "The left doesn’t want debate from conservatives, they want silence. And now we have it in writing. Sad!"

Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., who was ousted from the GOP leadership for her criticism of former President Donald Trump, at the Capitol in Washington, Friday, May 14, 2021. (AP Photo/Andrew Harnik)

His office added he would consider going on Maddow's show if he was ever invited.

Fox News has reached out to MSNBC for comment.

The 26-year-old Cawthorn is the youngest member of Congress and currently represents North Carolina's 11th District. He has filed to run for election in 2022 in the state's newly redrawn 13th District.

The North Carolinians disputing his candidacy argue he violated a constitutional amendment against members of Congress ever engaging in "insurrection" against the United States. Cawthorn spoke at the Jan. 6 "Save America Rally" that precipitated the Capitol riot, three days after he was sworn in, saying Democrats didn't want the voices of those present to be heard.

Cawthorn's office told the AP that activists were misinterpreting the Constitution and condemned their action.

A staunch Trump ally, Cawthorn said shortly after President Biden was inaugurated that he accepted his victory, but he has since continued to raise questions about the 2020 election's legitimacy, calling it stolen and unconstitutional.

This is something I am seeing building in multiple pressure points. Where are what we used to call Republicans? It is getting pointed out more and more often in more and more places the only reason there was a deadly insurrection and attempted coup and the reason our democracy is under threat now is because so few of what we used to call conservative/Republicans are willing to stand up and tell the truth. Which is what makes them treasonous conservative/Republicans and gutless cowards.

'Where's Mitt Romney? Where's Susan Collins?' Morning Joe shames GOP senators for blocking voting rights bill

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough shamed Republican senators for blocking a new voting rights bill, and he compared them to notoriously racist Alabama governor George Wallace.

Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has vowed to push through the John Lewis Voting Rights Act to counter GOP-led efforts by some states to restrict access to the ballot, and the "Morning Joe" host hammered the GOP minority for threatening to filibuster the sweeping legislation.

"I don't know how I'm still shocked at my former party, but I am," Scarborough said. "[Sen. Joe] Manchin and [Sen. Kyrsten] Sinema, they will support the Voting Rights Act. You have Republicans who are blocking a vote, they won't allow the vote. If you want to vote against this, vote against it -- for God's sake, that's your right -- but to block the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, to stand in schoolhouse door and stop other people from voting for it? You don't have to vote for it, just let it get to the floor and debate it."

"Not one Republican, I heard something about [Sen.] Lisa Murkowski thinking about it," he continued. "Where is [Sen.] Mitt Romney? Is Mitt Romney against extending the Voting Rights Act? where is [Sen.] Susan Collins? Is she telling us that she is against extending the Voting Rights Act that every single Republican voted to extend in 2005, 2006? Where is [Sen.] Ben Sasse, what does he not like about this voting rights act? Again, if you don't want to vote for it, if the people of Nebraska are against extending the Voting Rights Act that actually allowed Black Americans, that guaranteed actually the right to vote in this country safely? If the people of Nebraska are against it, vote against it, but let the United States Senate have an up-or-down vote."

"Here we are in 2022, for God's sake, 2022, [and] Joe Manchin can't find 10 Republicans who support extending the Voting Rights Act in the way the Roberts court directed them to a couple of years ago," Scarborough added. "I'm sorry -- to me, that is beyond breathtaking and beyond depressing. It's an indictment of the Republican Party."

I love it when Liberals compare Conservatives to George Wallace, a notoriously racist DEMOCRAT who was also a friend of President Biden.
Ya can't get more hypocritical or twisted than that!!

Trump’s unhinged statement suggests Georgia prosecutors may be close to indicting him: MSNBC legal analyst

    John Wright
    January 11, 2022

Prosecutors in Georgia likely informed Donald Trump's lawyers during a meeting last month that the former president is about to be indicted, according to former federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner.

On Monday, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow broke the news that Trump's lawyers met with Georgia prosecutors who are investigating him for election meddling, based at least partly on phone calls he made to the governor and secretary of state demanding that they overturn President Joe Biden's victory.

Maddow linked the meeting to an unhinged statement Trump issued on Dec. 18, alleging among other things that "all Democrats do is put people in jail."

READ MORE: Donald Trump Jr. tries taunting Eric Swalwell — and gets brutally burned

On Tuesday night, MSNBC host Joy Reid asked former federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner whether it sounds like Georgia authorities are building a conspiracy to commit election fraud case against Trump.

"Absolutely," Kirschner responded, noting that Trump not only asked Georgia officials to overturn the election results, but also threatened them with retribution if they didn't. "It is mind-boggling the crimes he committed. When I heard Donald Trump's unhinged statement ... the first thing this old prosecutor heard, and I said it back then, is someone just told Donald Trump's defense team he's about to be indicted."

Kirschner, who spent 24 years as a prosecutor with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, said he believes he's had many meetings like the one between Trump's lawyers and Georgia prosecutors.

"What we do is, right before we take that final trip into the grand jury and ask them to vote on criminal charges and return an indictment, we invite the defense team in," Kirschner said. "We say, 'Listen, maybe we're looking at this wrong. If you have any exculpatory evidence, if you have any evidence that could exonerate your client, if we're barking up the wrong tree, maybe we didn't hear what we heard on the recorded call with (Secretary of State) Brad Raffensperger — unlikely, but still — we are inviting you to provide that exonerating information. And then, you know what, we'll look at it and we'll assess it before we walk into the grand jury that one last time and ask them to indict Donald Trump.'"

"That likely happened, as we've now seen based on the reporting," Kirschner added. "That's what set Trump off. And it feels like the Georgia state prosecutors might be the first ones out of the blocks on the race for justice against Donald Trump."

'They're all grifters': Morning Joe compares GOP lawmakers to notorious 1980s televangelists

    Travis Gettys

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough compared Republican lawmakers to televangelists fleecing their flock.

The "Morning Joe" host reacted to video of Dr. Anthony Fauci calling out Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) for leveraging his attacks, which the doctor claims directly inspired death threats, to raise campaign money on his website.

    "They're all grifters," Scarborough said.

Co-host Mika Brzezinski was outraged by the constant attacks on Fauci by conservatives, calling them "sick."

"We're trying to get through a pandemic, and you have these idiots, these blowhards, who make it some sort of conspiracy theory party for themselves," Brzezinski said. "It's hard to watch. It must be very hard to be Dr. Fauci."

Scarborough said they were merely cynical and using their attacks to keep their fans distracted while they picked their pockets.

"It comes down, at the end of the day, to people just being grifters," Scarborough said. "We're getting more and more evidence of that. more and more text messages are leaking, and people say one thing on television and say something else off television on Jan. 6 or as it pertains to this. You look at the fact that people are using this to raise money, they're using this to get votes, they're using this to get eyes, you know, more eyeballs on their prime-time cable news shows."

"But you look at the election, the 'Stop the Steal,' it's a $1 million industry," he continued. "There's a great Washington Post article last week talking about how they've all turned against each other in the 'Stop the Steal' community. You know, they've only got a limited market share, and everybody is tearing in to try to get the money. I talked about the Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker last week. All of this we've seen in the anyone of age of Trump, it's all, at the end of the day, including Donald Trump, who lived his life as a moderate Democrat but realized he could grift off the Republican Party for votes and money, it's all a PTL Club scheme."

"It's remarkable that you have the Jim and Tammy Faye Bakke show that has been shifted over to American government, and it's been used to grift people," he added. "Rand Paul knows better, he certainly -- they all know better."

Maddow's bombshell: MSNBC host reveals suspicious link between Republicans' forged election documents

    Alex Henderson, AlterNet
    January 13, 2022

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow has been offering in-depth analysis of MAGA Republicans’ efforts to undermine the Electoral College results in states that now-President Joe Biden won in 2020, including sending out fake electors. And in a recent broadcast, the liberal MSNBC host reported that those fake electors tried to pull off that deception in “at least” five different states.

Maddow showed five Electoral College documents side by side on the screen, explaining, “I picked these five states to show you what the real electoral vote ascertainment documents look like. I picked these five because thanks to the watchdog group American Oversight, we now know that in all five of these states, Republicans also prepared forged fake documents that were sent to the government — proclaiming that actually, these other electors were the real electors from these states, and they were casting the states’ Electoral College votes not for Biden, but for Trump.”

The MSNBC host went on to show the authentic Electoral College documents and the Republican “forgeries,” as she described them, side by side — including the ones from Georgia, Nevada, Wisconsin, Michigan and Arizona, all of which Biden won.

“It wasn’t one state, it wasn’t three states where they did this — it was at least five states where we have now obtained forged documents created by Republicans,” Maddow told viewers. “And it’s not like they, again, created these documents to, like, hold close to their chest and fantasize that this had been the real outcome. It’s not like they created these documents just to keep themselves as a keepsake. They sent them in to the government as if they were real documents.”

Maddow continued, “And it’s not like they sent them in saying, ‘Hey, we know we’re not the real electors because Biden won here, but here’s our names for posterity. Here’s our names for your records.’ No, they actually created these fake documents purporting to be the real certifications of them as electors.”

Maddow went on to discuss a December 28, 2020 draft letter written by Jeffrey Clark, a Trump loyalist who served in the U.S. Department of Justice during Trump’s final weeks in office. Clark’s letter, Maddow noted, “explicitly describes these forged slates of electors from multiple states.”

“We now know: multiple states — Republicans in multiple states — had sent in false assertions, forged documents claiming to be the electors for their states,” Maddow noted. “That draft letter was dated December 28. How did that guy, that Trump guy at the Justice Department, know that two weeks earlier, Republicans in at least five states had, in fact, created these forged elector documents? Did the Trump Justice Department know about it because they helped Republicans in those states do it? We don’t know. But somebody helped them do it, because they all filed the exact same document in the same font, in the same spacing, with the exact same language. So, somebody helped them do it.”

If people have been watching closely Garland and people close to him are dropping all kinds of hints that even though the public doesn't see it yet they are working on the attempted coup. Garland hinted that during his press conference but since then there have also been multiple stories from ex prosecutors about how the DOJ works its way from the bottom up trying to get all the way to the top.

But some of these forgeries at least are also being investigated by state AG;s.

MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace suffers ratings implosion

MSNBC host Nicole Wallace has suffered a roughly 80% decline in viewership in the 25-54 age demographic since former President Donald Trump left office in January, the Washington Free Beacon reports, citing data provided by the Nielsen Media Research.

In May, just a little over 147,000 people in this all-important demo tuned in every day to watch Wallace's two-hour MSNBC program. In contrast, her program averaged 543,000 viewers in the 25-54 demographic in January, 297,000 in February, 177,000 in March, and 215,000 in April.

It was only a matter of time before lousy ratings caught up to cable news’ patron saint of mediocrity. Wallace’s particularly bland and ignorant brand of analysis and unrelenting cheerleading for the Democratic Party may have served its purpose when the Republican Party held the White House and the U.S. Senate, but now? Who needs analysis from a know-nothing, washed-up GOP operative? Very few people, apparently.

The collapse couldn’t have happened to a more deserving anchor. She tied her success directly to Trump, and now she is living with the consequences of having centered her program entirely around opposing the former president. And make no mistake, few on cable television opposed Trump in a more laughable, ludicrous, and audacious manner than Wallace.

First these stories are from June 2021. But its worth taking another look at how the right wing false propaganda echo chamber works.

I am not sure who is in the lead right now for being able to trigger Trump enough to make him lash out and prove he is watching. Not too long ago MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell had the lead. But lately Joe and Mika have been scoring points and catching or passing O'Donnell. But one thing is for sure. It is just fucking hilarious to watch them do it because its so easy to trigger Trump.

MSNBC's Morning Joe and Mika mock 'loyal viewer' Trump after he makes illiterate attack on them

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski mocked former president Donald Trump minutes after he issued an insulting statement about them.

The twice-impeached one-term president marked Martin Luther King Jr. Day by complaining about his former friends on "Morning Joe," claiming that their ratings are "very low" and then misusing a word to attack them.

"They are having an extremely hard time finding an audience to listen to the Fake News they spurn," Trump said.

Spurn means to reject something with disdain or contempt, which is the opposite of what Trump seemingly intended to say, and the targets of his attack laughed when they read his statement live on air.

"I can't wait to hear what the 45th president decided was worthy to write about this morning on MLK Day," Scarborough said. "Go ahead, hit it."

Panelist Jonathan Lemire read the statement as the producers put up a graphic reading, "Morning Joe thanks loyal viewer: Florida retiree sends thoughts on show."

"We do spurn fake news," Brzezinski said.

"I never heard him talk about spurn, using that word," Scarborough said. "I have not, have you? I don't use the word, it's new vocabulary. I'm looking it up. Secondly, he cannot quit us."

Their hypocrisy glared just a little too much today.

MSNBC's Ari Melber names and shames Republicans paying tribute to MLK while undermining his causes

    Sarah K. Burris
    January 17, 2022

    Ted Cruz (Screen Grab)

If there's one thing that is consistent on the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. it's people claiming to admire him even as they spend the overwhelming majority of their time actively working against causes he stood for.

Such was the case Monday when Republicans, along with Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), took to Twitter to celebrate the man who called for an end to the filibuster and demanded equal voting rights for all people. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) didn't even make a comment about MLK Day on his Twitter or Facebook pages as of 7 p.m. EST.

MSNBC host Ari Melber listed some of the statements from the officials but played a video of Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) claiming that he was inspired by MLK to help all people of Kentucky.

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO), who voted against certifying the results of the 2020 presidential election, called King "a man who dreamed and paved a way for many."

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said, "we remember the sacrifices he made," when talking about Dr. King.

Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-AZ) called King "a man who transformed our nation."

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), said that today, "we... remember what he courageously stood for."

As Melber noted, most whites at the time of King's death regarded him as a criminal or agitator.

"He had the extremely high disapproval rate of about 75 percent at his death," said the host. "And the calls to create today's holiday remained controversial into the '70s. It took a campaign and national effort, among many other pushes to get today to become a holiday, which didn't happen until 1983."

Speaking Monday, King's 13-year-old granddaughter said, “My family and I have been working on getting two major bills passed that can make it easier for people to vote, because one of the fundamental rights is the right to vote. Everybody needs to have access to voting."

Footage of King's comments about the filibuster made the rounds on Monday as well. When asked about the Civil Rights Act, King said that both he and Americans support it, but because of a small minority of racist members, it was being blocked.

"Well, this would certainly be all right with me, because I think the vast majority of people in the United States would vote favorably for such a bill," he said. "I think the tragedy is that we have a Congress with a Senate that has a minority of misguided senators who will use the filibuster to keep the majority of people from even voting. They won't let the majority senators vote. And certainly they wouldn't want the majority of people to vote, because they know they do not represent the majority of the American people. In fact, they represent, in their own states, a very small minority."

The Dixiecrats’ final gasp was the speech by Byrd, a former member of the Ku Klux Klan. As he droned into the night, the Senate floor was deserted except for “a few page boys to carry water” and a handful of tourists in the gallery “who watched with bewildered fascination,” Newsday reported. Byrd, speaking from his desk, “read a mélange of philosophy, poetry and medieval law.”

At 7:38 p.m. on June 9, 1964, Democratic Sen. Robert C. Byrd (D) of West Virginia began speaking on the Senate floor against the Civil Rights Act of 1964. He didn’t finish until 9:51 the next morning.

But his windiness failed to block the bill. The Senate, for the first time in its history, voted to end debate on a civil rights bill — after a record two-and-a-half-month filibuster. The next year, it did the same thing to pass the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

It's an important note to make that there were nearly 500 amendments added to this bill before final passage....A higher percentage of Democrats were against ending segregation than GOP members....so that puts us right back to that selective amnesia I was referring too a while back.

    The original House version:[30]

    • Democratic Party: 152–96 (61–39%)
    • Republican Party: 138–34 (80–20%)
    Cloture in the Senate:[31]

    • Democratic Party: 44–23 (66–34%)
    • Republican Party: 27–6 (82–18%)
    The Senate version:[30]

    • Democratic Party: 46–21 (69–31%)
    • Republican Party: 27–6 (82–18%)
The Senate version, voted on by the House:[30]

    • Democratic Party: 153–91 (63–37%)
    • Republican Party: 136–35 (80–20%)

This was some funny stuff coming from Rachel Maddow.

Rachel Maddow mocks Trump for ‘lying about the square footage of his hands — I mean his apartment’

Former president Donald Trump allegedly inflating the value of his company's assets is reminiscent of him bragging about his hand size during a 2016 debate, according to MSNBC host Rachel Maddow.

During a report on the New York attorney general's investigation into Trump's company, Maddow noted Wednesday night that the former president is accused of claiming that his triplex New York City apartment is 30,000 square feet, when it's only 10,996 square feet.

"He lied about the actual square footage of his hands — I mean his apartment," Maddow said. "And not a little bit. Not like he added an extra room. He said it was three times as big as it actually was."

"But the square footage is just the start," Maddow said, pointing to the fact that Trump allegedly claimed the apartment was worth $327 million.

Last year, the most expensive apartment in the U.S. was worth only $169 million, Maddow said.

"Trump said his apartment was worth almost double that," she said. "Year after year, on official financial statements, he said his apartment was worth nearly twice as much as the most expensive apartment in the country, and he said it was three times larger than it actually was, which is wild and flagrant and almost impressively dishonest, and it does make you think back to him bragging about his hand size at the debate. I mean, it's just too on the nose, right?"

"But according to the New York attorney general, it's not just an interesting, like, personality pathology," Maddow added. "It was part of a pattern of behavior by Donald Trump and his company that was potentially illegal."
