Forcing stories accounts to post, when I'd bet a significant percentage of them are at best lurkers, means you alienate those accounts which would have been loyal clicks to read stories - as evidenced by the fact that they made accounts to save them - by putting up a wall which, while easy enough to breach, does nothing but make content more inaccessable.
