Calif. Republicans push back against Newsom plan to ban fracking

Republicans in California are pushing back against Governor Gavin Newsom’s (D-Calif.) attempts to ban fracking. On Friday, State Senator Shannon Grove (R) issued a statement, which accused Newsom of destroying “good-paying jobs” by banning new fracking permits.

Grove pointed out, the move will more harshly affect the Central Valley of the state, which is one of the few areas in the liberal stronghold that tends to vote Republican. It also produces almost all of the oil and gas in the state.

Grove added, more than 350,000 jobs would be threatened Newsom’s plan moves forward.

Newsom has directed the state’s top oil regulator to stop issuing new fracking permits by 2024 and to stop all oil extraction by 2045. The oil industry called it an “illegal mandate” and vowed to fight it as fracking only accounts for 17 percent of California’s oil production.

“Once again the governor has chosen to ignore science and facts,” Kevin Slagle, of the Western States Petroleum Associated, stated. “And turn our energy independence over to other sources.”

Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) also weighed in on the move, saying it would only lead us away from energy independence and make the Golden State an even more expensive place to live and raise a family.

If the ban does happen, California will become the largest oil-producing state to stop fracking.

 

Reports: L.A. hiding homeless people ahead of Oscars

Oscars season is upon us and the city of Los Angeles is preparing by hiding all the homeless people.

The 2021 Oscars will be held for the first time ever at the historic L.A. Union Station, but the city of Los Angeles is reportedly working to remove homeless people near and around the venue.



According to a local homeless man named DJ, officials came by and told those tenting in the area to move by Friday at 6 p.m.

“They came to us about a week ago and said that we had to move because they were trying to clean it up for the Oscars, and they told us that if we didn’t move they were just going to demolish our stuff,” DJ explained.

While the city is offering to let local homeless people stay in a nearby hotel, critics argued this is just another example of the city sweeping the homeless crisis under the rug.

 

Fracking probably isn't too good an idea in a state that has tectonic plates and fractures running through it. I mean, what could possibly happen?

 

L.A. has been putting homeless people in hotels since the pandemic started and they "clean the street" every year before the Oscars, just as you would clean your house if you company coming. Believe me those Hollywood bums are disgusting creatures!!! I know they have all sorts of problems but these animals just pass out on the sidewalk and shit themselves and don't care. They have all sorts of diseases and are really not what you want to see on TV when watching the Oscars!

Calif. to release 76,000 inmates early to cut prison population

California is planning to release thousands of inmates in order to reduce prison capacity. According to reports on Saturday, the state is expected to increase early release credits for 76,000 inmates, including violent and repeat felons.

Nearly 20,000 serving life sentences may be eligible for good behavior credits, which will shorten their sentences by one-third.

Additionally, over 10,000 inmates who were convicted of a second serious, however, non-violent offense under California’s “three-strikes” law will be eligible for release after serving half their sentences.

The changes were approved this week by the State Office of Administrative Law.

A spokesperson for the department said the goal is to increase incentives for the incarcerated population to practice good behavior and follow the rules.
