Senate panel approves subpoenas related to Russia probe, Obama admin.

On Wednesday, the Senate Homeland Security Committee voted to approve dozens of subpoenas related to the Obama administration’s Russia investigation. The panel has approved calling upwards of 40 people, including former FBI Director James Comey and former CIA Director John Brennan.

Chairman Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) explained he had pulled the vote on a subpoena for U.S. Ambassador to Slovakia Bridget Brink, which is related to his Hunter Biden-Burisma investigation. According to Johnson, the ambassador will voluntarily cooperate with the panel.

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) has since voiced his concern that issuing subpoenas this close to an election appears to be “a political exercise.”

“Obviously it’s only the province of campaigns, political parties, opposition research, the media to carry out political endeavors…, but it’s not the legitimate role of government, for Congress or for taxpayer expense, to be used in an effort to damage political opponents,” stated Sen. Romney. “Therefore, I am pleased that our votes today do not include additional authorizations relating to the, I’ll call it, Biden-Burisma investigation.”

In the meantime, Sen. Johnson has said he is ready to reveal more from his Hunter Biden-Burisma investigation as soon as next week.

 

Sooner or later, someone, somewhere is going to start digging into the reasons why the DNC decided funding a dossier on Trump and Russia was a good idea. And, if such a good idea, why funding for it was laundered through their law firm.

And at some point the DNC should be required to publicly go through the allegations in the dossier point by point and apologize for every incorrect point. Which is to say, all of them.

Earlier Tuesday, Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe declassified documents revealing that then-CIA Director John Brennan briefed President Obama in 2016 on Hillary Clinton’s “plan” to stir up a scandal tying then-candidate Donald Trump to Russia and distracting from the controversy over her private email server.

President Trump authorizes ‘total declassification’ of all documents on Russia hoax, Clinton emails scandal

President Trump announced he has authorized the total declassification of all documents pertaining to the 2016 Russia investigation. On Twitter Tuesday, he said he will make public any and all documents in connection to what he called “the single greatest political crime in American history.”

The President then instructed Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe to declassify the notes of former CIA Director John Brennan that show Hillary Clinton came up with a plan to connect President Trump to Russia back in 2016.

Brennan contends the plan was simply a part of the Clinton campaign strategy and has tried to downplay its significance. According to his handwritten notes, the campaign should “vilify Donald Trump by stirring up a scandal claiming interference by the Russian Security Service.”

Brennan’s notes, allegedly dated July 28, 2016, detailed the plan was “a means of distracting the public from her use of a private email server.” President Trump has also said all documents from “the Hillary Clinton email scandal” will also be released with no redactions.

The declassification comes amid continued claims from Democrat lawmakers trying to link the president to Russian corruption, which is an accusation he has repeatedly denied. When releasing the documents and new information, Ratcliffe added that he’ll be briefing Congress on “the sensitive sources and methods by which it was obtained in the coming days.”

A former FBI lawyer is expected to plead guilty to falsifying a document central to an investigation into Russian interference in 2016 elections.

Kevin Clinesmith, who was assigned to the FBI probe, is set to plead guilty to altering an email from the CIA on which investigators relied for continuing wiretap permissions on Carter Page, Donald Trump's former campaign adviser, The New York Times reports.

The plea follows US Attorney John Durham's investigation into the previous inquiry, dismissed by US Attorney General William Barr and Donald Trump, who has sought retribution following a lengthy probe and indictments and convictions targeting his allies and campaign officials despite his accusations that the investigation was a "hoax" and politically motivated.


Mr Clinesmith is excepted to plead guilty to one felony count of making a false statement.

Democrats have warned that Mr Durham's investigation has aimed to discredit the FBI probe, which Justice Department officials had determined was legitimate following an inspector general's review. The report found no evidence of political bias among investigators.
