US troops in Syria seem to be getting hit with directed-energy attacks, and the Pentagon suspects Russia is doing it, report says

As it turns out, the Defense Department has been fielding reports of troops in Syria being attacked by what they describe as "directed energy attacks" and they are now convinced that the attacks are being initiated by Russia.

That's right. Russia is attacking US troops using some kind of new "Directed energy" weapon. It makes troops very sick, and appears to be some kind of experimental thing Russia is doing.

Sources report that President biden/harris have been briefed, but biden/harris response has not been disclosed.
Clearly, the administrations response is to do nothing.

Meanwhile, biden played his first round of golf since becoming president this week. No indication he was attacked by any "directed energy" weapon from white supremacists.

Russia will on Friday begin returning troops to permanent bases inside the country, pulling them back from near the border with Ukraine, Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency reported.

Thursday’s announcement comes after weeks of tensions between Moscow, Kyiv and the latter’s Western allies over a major Russian military build-up near its western border with Ukraine and in annexed Crimea, which reportedly involved tens of thousands of troops.

Russia has argued that the build-up was defensive, while Ukraine – backed by Germany and other Western powers – has accused Moscow of attempting to provoke hostilities.

“I believe the objectives of the snap inspection have been fully achieved. The troops have demonstrated their ability to provide a credible defence for the country,” RIA quoted Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu as saying.

“In this regard, I have decided to complete the inspections in the southern and western military districts,” he added.

The deployments took place against the backdrop of renewed clashes in Ukraine’s conflict-stricken eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, where government forces have battled Russian-backed separatist forces since the rebels seized a swath of territory there in April 2014.


It was not immediately clear whether the rebasing order covered all of the forces involved in the recent military build-up.

The Russian military has not publicly declared the number of additional troops that it has moved, but the European Union’s top diplomat Josep Borrell said after EU foreign ministers were briefed by Ukraine’s foreign minister that the number was higher than 100,000.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the announcement.

In a tweet, he said Ukraine “welcomes any steps to decrease the military presence & deescalate the situation in Donbas [eastern Ukraine]”, adding “Grateful to international partners for their support”.

NATO and the United States – the leading member of the transatlantic security alliance – have said that the build-up was Russia’s largest since March 2014, when Moscow seized Crimea from Kyiv, and called for the forces to be pulled back.

Moscow has repeatedly rejected Ukrainian and Western concerns about the build-up, maintaining that it is free to deploy its forces anywhere on Russian territory.

The Kremlin has also routinely denied playing any role in the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

The US said it will “continue to watch” the situation “very closely” after Russia’s announcement.

“We’ve heard words. I think what we’ll be looking for is action,” State Department spokesman Ned Price said Thursday.

Russia declares Crimea drills over
Defence Minister Shoigu said the troops would return to their bases by May 1.

His comments came after he oversaw exercises in Crimea, near Ukraine’s southern border, on Thursday.

The Russian Defence Ministry said the drills in the Black Sea region involved more than 60 ships, over 10,000 troops, around 200 aircraft and about 1,200 military vehicles.

The exercise featured the landing of more than 2,000 paratroopers and 60 military vehicles on Thursday. Fighter jets covered the airborne operation.

Shoigu flew in a helicopter over the Opuk firing range in Crimea to monitor proceedings.

He later declared the drills over, but ordered the military to stand ready to respond to any “unfavourable” developments during NATO’s Defender Europe 2021 exercise, Russia’s Interfax news agency reported.

Defender Europe is an annual, US army-led, multinational joint exercise designed to build readiness and interoperability between US and other NATO militaries, as well as other partners.

The exercise began in March and will run until June.

It will feature more than 28,000 forces from 26 nations and see drills conducted across more than 30 training areas in a dozen countries.

FBI warned Giuliani he was the target of a Russian operation — he went to Ukraine anyway: report

On Thursday, The Washington Post revealed that Rudy Giuliani was warned by the FBI in 2019 that he was a target of Russian election interference plots — and even after receiving the warning, went to Ukraine in search of dirt to damage Joe Biden's family.

"The warning was part of an extensive effort by the bureau to alert members of Congress and at least one conservative media outlet, One America News, that they faced a risk of being used to further Russia's attempt to influence the election's outcome, said several current and former U.S. officials," reported Ellen Nakashima, Shane Harris and Tom Hamburger. "Giuliani received the FBI's warning while deeply involved with former president Donald Trump's 2020 reelection campaign and related activities in Ukraine to surface unflattering or incriminating information about the Biden family."

"Despite the alert, Giuliani went forward in December 2019 with a planned trip to Kyiv, Ukraine's capital, where he met with a Ukrainian lawmaker whom the U.S. government later labeled 'an active Russian agent' and sanctioned on grounds he was running an 'influence campaign' against Biden," said the report. "That operation, officials said, involved Ukrainian officials and political consultants who the U.S. intelligence community has since concluded were acting as Russian proxies not only to smear Biden and derail his candidacy but also to curtail U.S. support for Ukraine."

Giuliani recently had his home and office raided by federal officials acting on a search warrant in connection with allegations his Ukraine work was in the capacity of an unregistered foreign agent, which would be a criminal offense. A grand jury has been empaneled to review the matter.

FBI warned GOP's Ron Johnson he was being used to spread Russian propaganda -- and he didn't care

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) got a defensive briefing from federal law enforcement officials last year in which he was warned that he was being used to spread Russian propaganda -- but he quickly shrugged off their warnings.

The Washington Post reports that the FBI last summer told Johnson that he was spreading Russian disinformation aimed at influencing the results of the 2020 presidential election, but Johnson tells the Post that he didn't really care what they said.

"Regarding reports that I received an FBI briefing warning me that I was a target of Russian disinformation, I can confirm I received such a briefing in August of 2020," Johnson explains to the paper. "I asked the briefers what specific evidence they had regarding this warning, and they could not provide me anything other than the generalized warning. Without specific information, I felt the briefing was completely useless and unnecessary."

Johnson adds that he "suspected that the briefing was being given to be used at some future date for the purpose that it is now being used: to offer the biased media an opportunity to falsely accuse me of being a tool of Russia despite warnings."

The FBI last year similarly told Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani that he was being used to spread Russian disinformation, and the one-time New York mayor also blew off the agency's warnings.

This is one reason whether he knew it or not that Trump just gutted the FBI and especially people like Peter Strzok who was the best Russian spy chaser we had. He knows Putin/Russia better than anyone and has pointed out Putin/Russia grooming Trump as an asset is actually very common. That is absolutely right and this whole thread is a testament to it. We can see the Trump supporters, PR hacks, and Russian assets surrendering the sovereignty of the US to Putin/Russia without firing a single shot. It is fine with them if Putin dictated to the US just as long as he helped Trump remain president. And that kind of treason went all the way to the top of our government.

Barr’s Secret Memo on Not Charging Trump Must Be Made Public, Judge Rules

The Trump Justice Department tried its hardest to keep it a secret—but we may soon see a memo that could shed new light on William Barr’s decision not to charge Donald Trump with a crime at the climax of the Mueller investigation. Barr’s Justice Department had argued in court that the memo should be kept private because it contained the legal advice that the then-attorney general had used to make his decision. However, according to CNN, federal Judge Amy Berman Jackson ruled late Monday that the decision not to charge Trump had already been made by the time the memo was written, so it can be made public. The judge said the memo offers “strategic, as opposed to legal advice” to Barr, and accused his Justice Department of attempting to “obscure the true purpose of the memorandum” in order to keep it secret. Jackson added that the department “has been disingenuous to this court” in its attempts to shield the memo from public view. Neither Barr nor the Justice Department, now under the leadership of Merrick Garland, has commented on the ruling.

First, Strzok wasn't fired by Trump, he was fired by David Bowditch, the Deputy director of the FBI. Strzok was fired because he and Lisa Page were having an affair in violation of FBI rules, he and Page traded hundreds of texts and e Mails that demonstrated a clear bias against President Trump and even suggested there were plans to prevent President Trump from ever assuming the office if he were elected. And we learned that despite his obvious bias in favor of Hillary Clinton he was put in charge of the investigation into her hidden e mail account. For a veteran investigator, Strzok fucked up royally with that investigation, allowing Clinton to decide which e Mails would be turned over to the FBI, and when she was interviewed, Strzok neither put her under oath or recorded the interview. Those things alone would get any other agent fired, don't you think?

But wait, there's more! When the FISA warrants were obtained they were based in good part on the Steele Dossier, but neither Strzok or anyone else let the court know that the contents of the dossier were not verified, and were in fact suspect.

So, what was found to be verified, if not completely accurate?
That Russia wanted Trump to win because Putin hated Clinton, and directed his cyber criminals to influence the election through social media.
That Russia likely was responsible for hacking of the DNC and RNC IT systems and the release to Wikileaks of e Mails and texts embarrassing to the DNC and Clinton.

There's more, oh so much more, in both the Steele dossier and the Mueller report, but none of it supports your delusional claims that Trump was Putin's puppet, that Trump was elected President because of Putin, or that Putin dictated to Trump anything.

New facts are still coming out about former president Donald Trump's use of Russian misinformation to get elected president -- and to nearly overturn his election loss.

The twice-impeached one-term president has been banished from Twitter and, at least for now, Facebook, so his ability to pump out falsehoods has been severely diminished, but the government has recently revealed new evidence about how Russia influenced U.S. politics using his social media reach, reported CNN.

"Did Trump's 2016 campaign interact with Russians and did those Russians send information back to the Kremlin? Yes," wrote CNN's Zachary Wolf. "The Treasury Department made the revelation of Russia's 2016 interference in April, announcing new sanctions for Russia's attempted election meddling in 2020."

The Treasury Department confirmed last month, when announcing new sanctions against Russian individuals, that Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort passed internal campaign data to his longtime associate Konstantin Kilimnik, who then gave the information Russian intelligence services.

"This new revelation strengthens the evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian Government and raises important questions about the nature of the polling data that was shared and about Kilimnik's activities and network," wrote Wendy Siegelman for Byline Times. "Both questions lead to a company that deserves further scrutiny – Cambridge Analytica."

That data company, where Manafort's successor Steve Bannon served on the board, also passed along data harvested from Facebook to Russia that helped direct highly targeted misinformation to individual social media users in the final days of the 2016 campaign .

"Adjacent to Russia's interference in 2016 is Trump's attempt to dig up dirt on Joe Biden ahead of 2020," wrote CNN's Wolf. "Despite Trump's impeachment, we may still learn from the active federal investigation into what exactly Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani was doing for Trump in Ukraine and elsewhere."

This week, federal Judge Amy Jackson Berman accused former attorney general William Barr of mischaracterizing the findings in special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation to shield Trump from possible criminal prosecution, and ordered the Justice Department to release an unredacted version of the memo he used to justify the inaction.

Also this week, Facebook announced that Trump would remain banned for at least six more months, after he used the social media platform to push misinformation about his election loss that resulted in his supporters violently storming the Capitol to stop Congress from certifying Joe Biden's win -- with perhaps one more assist from Russia.

"Trump, Russia and other actors generally seek to polarize the country by spreading false facts," Wolf wrote.
