Good article, it points to many of the unusual facets of the Trump supporters makeup. It also points up the usual reaction to the police response to protesting white guys vs colored guys doing the same thing.

But, then it goes on to reach conclusions which are a little less clear cut, was the lack of police presence because of complicity or complacency. Was it because they agreed with the protestors, or because they never expected the protesters to riot?

 

My own son traveled to DC for the rally on Amtrak, along with a group of friends. They were all successful businesspeople. They also left immediately after the rally and returned home on the next train.

He told me the mood was mixed, but mostly happy to have attended what was likely his last speech as President.

When education is held constant those who make better incomes are more likely to vote Republican. When income is held constant those who have more education are more likely to vote Democrat. At one extreme we have high school dropouts who become successful business owners. These usually end up among the more extreme right wing Republicans. At the other extreme we have those who got unmarketable PhD's or who got law degrees but could not pass the bar exam. These are likely to become left wing Democrats and democratic socialists. I suspect that antifa recruits from people like this, but I have not read a survey on the subject.

They, as me, saw-felt-experienced the inequitable unfairness borne by those of that economic/social class and how most accommodated themselves to their status with an emotional generosity not given secularly by those who held on to the trappings of their non-passage tangible/intangible baggaee thru even a generously 'liberally wide' eye-of-the-needle.
Those who observed that inequity of their socially challenged citizens did and do find the provocative hyperbolic-articulations of militant resistance, inclusive of revolution, if such a means is found to be necessary-in all its tumultuous consequences.
