Movies: Star Trek II, my absolute favorite. Why?, great action and first time Kirk admitted is "ingenuity" failed and killed his friend and loyal comrade. It was a sort of counter to the whole TOS.

    Star Trek VI second.

Star Trek V (a disaster), did that really happen?, or was it just a bad dream?

Watched the TOS as a kid (reruns late at night) and again on BBC in 2016. The 50th anniversary was shown uncut from original. Taped them all them changed services, All lost now.:(

The iconic characters keep The Original Series afloat. About 1/3rd of the episodes are poor to horrible.

The Next Generation (after Encounter At FarPoint) ran through a half-dozen miserable episodes before it found its footing. After that, the storytelling (and to a great extent, the acting) blew TOS away.

Deep Space Nine took a different tack and, while it did not quite match TNG for overall writing, was an amazing show that balanced comradery, deception, action and intellectualism better than any of the other series to this point.

Voyager suffered from poor characters. More than half the main crew members were uninteresting-to-boring-to-outright-annoying. There were some good stories, though, just not up to the standard of TNG and DS9.

Enterprise had much better characters, almost on the level of the first three series and overall very good writing. The series was worthy of a few more seasons, but its timing was poor because tv still did not understand the growing impact of original cable programming and it's "numbers" compared poorly to what had been expected of programs of five years earlier and beyond.

Discovery stretches the boundaries of what has come to be expected of Star Trek, and so far has been uneven, though getting better. It can sometimes be confusing and also annoying when it uses technology that was not available in their "future" (the eras of TOS, TNG, DS9 and Voyager).

The one season of Picard that I have seen was great, but it is too soon to compare it to the first five iterations, though it was better by far than Discovery's first season.

Enterprise's problem was the studio's commitment to the series and the syndications time slots. The bean counters wanted to do a year to year renewal, and as a result stations changed time slots sometimes three times a year. Like most of the other shows in the franchise the fan base kept it alive, but it was hard to keep up dedication when one week it's on a Thursday night, the next it's on a Tuesday. Short attention span theater kicks in and soon you've lost your viewers.

Having now watched Discovery and Picard, I now have to reassess my opinions, and I pretty much have to agree with Umpire! The technology in Enterprise and Discovery definately does not all fit in the time line, and battle with the Nazi's IMO is what sunk Enterprise!

When Star trek started everyone said that will not happen.hand held radios there never make them that small=cell phone.Tricorder=Small handheld sensor. Small portable computer =Laptop or tablet. A computer that can take voice command's and reply to you.
So the people who wrote the scripts really gave thought to the future and major social problems .like a certain lady coms officer role as a officer.

Actually people seeing the stuff on ST, inspired them to make such things as cell phones! It's been reported that even a transporter is in the works, however it can only move a couple molecules.

My hand held ham radio can reach out and touch other ham operators all over the state, no charge or plan... on the other hand you can't use it for a medical diagnosis unless you've used it in an assault... then LE makes the call and decides what to do with you.

You cannot vote for more than one so I will say ds9 but I was impressed by the first series of Picard.

    The movies........

    Wrath of Khan
Spock and Kirk save the whale.
    Generations was underrated
    First contact
The first one of the reboot.....love Karl Urban as McCoy.

I just love the tech talk.

    thinskin

PS......Best episode however is the city on the edge of forever from the original series.

My favourite episode of original series is Trouble with Tribbles its was a much lighter story funny in parts. The New Generation had a episode where they merged original series footage with New Generation and produced a very good story and technical you could not see the joins
