The old guy was a fanatic collector of all sorts , but WWII aircraft in particular.

Amongst the collection
a Mosquito,
with only 80 hours 35 minutes on the clock ,

Two × P41 Kityhawks ,

a P51 Mustang

A Harvard

a Lockheed Hudson

a P40 named Gloria Lyons , that was based up in Bougainville ,
a veteran of over 50 bombing runs ,
compete with original paint and graphics , including the 50 bombs on the side ,
now being readied for a museum , by his brother and family.

The old boy died last year.

He bought the planes from the RNZAF in the 50s & 60s ,
thereby literally saving them from the melting pot , and being made into pots n pans.

He scoured the countryside for bits n pieces ,

, and there's so much crammed into his main huge shed ,
that the old boys working on them call it
"airplane mountaineering".

His ashes are in the Gloria Lyons cockpit , and they just move them from side to side as nescassary as they work on getting it ready for the museum.

Now valued at at least $10 million ,
the family say you could have offered him millions and he wouldn't have sold anything.
"He just wasn't interested in money".

Welp, the house was gonna vote on marijuana legalization within 2 weeks but it's getting pushed back. Just goes to show you that you can't count on our elected officials. Put it on the states ballot and let the good citizens make it right one state at a time.

Found my fathers old Mortgage book, from 1932, for the house I was born in, a small 2 rooms and kitchen summer bungalow. A little note book like an address book 3X5 inches. Each page was a month, he wrote in "Paid Bump $10." No interest no contract, paid the money to an old Dutchman who lived alone next door in a house slightly bigger than the shed in my yard today.
Cant imagine he was able to pay every month, I worked it out to be 700 bucks for the house. on 50ft by 60ft lot.

So she's been soaring the southern ocean for the last two years.

They are amazing to watch at sea.
They almost never "flap their wings" once airborne.
I'd watch them circling the ship as we traveled , and they usually do three or four circuits , at about a quarter to half a mile off

 

11 fledglings have left so far this year ,
and there are another 10 to go.

They pair for life , but only meet when they return , once every two years .

So the first home has to sit around , maybe for weeks , even a month or two , for their mate to return.

Actually, Northern Kalifornistan, where more of these fires are in fact happening, is not nearly as dry as Texas is.
Northern Kalifornistan averages about 30-40 inches of rain per year... Texas averages about 25 inches... And the vast majority is down near the Gulf... Up in the Panhandle area near Oklahoma it's scrub brush and Tumbleweeds...
