Four dead
after police shooting
and
'medical emergencies'
at Capitol
Four people died as supporters of President Donald Trump violently occupied the Capitol,
the Associated Press is reporting.

Washington DC Police Chief Robert Contee said
the dead on Wednesday included a woman
who was shot by the US Capitol Police
as a mob tried to break through a barricaded door in the Capitol,
as well as three others who died in
“medical emergencies”.

Both law enforcement and Trump supporters deployed chemical irritants, police said.​

I actually miss news headlines about the U.S. when I lived in other countries, as a citizen it provides a little insight to how America is viewed by other countries.
I have no delusions about the history of America's impact around the world, both the good and the bad so I can understand a wide variety of viewpoints and feelings about this country. I've always said that if the U.S. were to fall, it would be by our own doing more than anything else and there would be plenty of people that would be happy to see it happen.

70 years ago Paul Robeson and Ben Davis brought the US policy of lynchings and racist discrimination to the attention of the United Nations in a document named "We Charge Genocide." No doubt this action led to Robeson's loss of passport and the decimation of his internationally acclaimed career. In solidarity with the African American, Latinx, Immigrant, Native American, LGBTQ communities, we should again be charging the US establishment with genocide.

• A Trump cabinet member and a number of other administration officials have resigned from their posts
• Joe Biden said the difference in the way Capitol rioters and Black Lives Matter protesters were treated is "unacceptable"
• Serious questions are being raised over how and why a security breach of this magnitude took place
