Trump sues his own niece — and hilarity ensues on MSNBC

MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow on Tuesday laughed while reading from a new Daily Beast report on Trump suing his own niece.

While discussing the near-total abortion ban passed by Texas Republicans with former prosecutor Joyce Vance, the host noted the breaking news from The Daily Beast titled under the headline, "Donald Trump Sues New York Times and His Niece Over Tax Story."

Maddow read from the report and she started laughing when she read the phrase from the lawsuit claiming damages are "believed to be no less than One Hundred Million Dollars."

"Each of those words capitalized," Maddow said.

She also read Mary Trump's comments on the lawsuit, which drew laughter from Vance.

"I think he is a f*cking loser, and he is going to throw anything against the wall he can," she said. "It's desperation. The walls are closing in and he is throwing anything against the wall that will stick."

Maddow then went to commercial break during which she apparently began reading the lawsuit.

When she returned from break and discussed the lawsuit with anchor Lawrence O'Donnell during the handoff between their shows, Maddow noted the lawsuit used "understated" when it meant to use "overstated."

"Impossible to rewrite. Rachel, do not try to rewrite art," O'Donnell said. "He has the lawyers who think the way he does."

'Losing loser seeks to lose some more': Legal experts dissect Trump's lawsuit against his niece

Legal experts were unimpressed by Donald Trump's lawsuit against The New York Times and his niece, Mary Trump.

His niece had harsh words for the lawsuit in an interview with The Daily Beast.

"I think he is a f*cking loser, and he is going to throw anything against the wall he can. It's desperation," the psychologist said. "The walls are closing in and he is throwing anything against the wall that will stick. As is always the case with Donald, he'll try and change the subject."

Legal experts were also critical of the lawsuit.

"Yeah, good luck with that as a legal theory," former federal prosecutor Joyce Vance told MSNBC's Rachel Maddow. "It does sound very much like someone who's desperate to try to turn the tables and certainly the former president has a history of trying to abuse the legal system for his own benefit. So this looks like another chapter in that same book."

"Why isn't this being brought by Trump's usual lawyers?" Attorney Bradley P. Moss wondered. "Also, why does this lawsuit fail to make any reference to the fact they tried to block publication based on the NDA and lost in court?"

"Losing loser seeks to lose some more,"
former federal prosecutor Katie Phang said.

Later on MSNBC, Lawrence O'Donnell asked former acting Solicitor General Neal Katyal about Trump's lawsuit.

"Yeah, I'm going to go out on a limb and say this isn't going anywhere," Katyal said.

"You know, for one thing, if you really believe this Donald Trump, why do you wait an entire year before suing? He's complaining about stuff that happened a year ago," he noted. "If the harm's so great, you wait until now?"

"And the big problem is here is something Trump hasn't read but we know: it's called the First Amendment, freedom of press," he continued. "Good luck, Donald Trump, challenging that and suing The New York Times. This one, I think, we know the results already."

Oh please please do. Especially since treasonous conservative/Republicans are trying to blame the Democrats if the government shuts down and defaults on our debt. And the last time Trump shut the government down it worked out so well for the mad king dictator.

Trump demands GOP shut down the government to block Freedom to Vote Act: 'Republicans have no choice!'

Donald Trump called on Senate Republicans to shut down the government as leverage to block the "horror" of Democratic legislation.

The twice-impeached one-term president issued a statement through his spokeswoman, who has not been banned from Twitter, urging Republicans to oppose raising the debt ceiling and block the Freedom to Vote Act.

"The only powerful tool that Republicans have to negotiate with is the Debt Ceiling, and they would be both foolish and unpatriotic not to use it now," Trump said in a statement. "The way I look at it, what the Democrats are proposing, on so many different levels, will destroy our Country. Therefore, Republicans have no choice but to do what they have to do, and the Democrats will have no choice but to concede all of the horror they are trying to inflict upon the future of the United States."

"Unrelated, but likewise, their so-called 'Voting Rights Bill' will be the end of our Democracy," the ex-president added. "Don't give up or concede, Republicans, this is the ultimate representation of the People!"

    Quick question.
If biden/harris have a scheme to pay for their pig bill why is raising the ceiling so important?

    1. Username 1
The debt ceiling is paying for monies already spent, it is a relic from WWI and Republicans helped incur those debts.

McConnell wants the Dems to raise the debt ceiling on their own and frame it as a ‘BLANK CHECK’.

if the Republicans try to filibuster raising the debt ceiling then the Democrats should nuke the filibuster.

As House Speaker Nancy Pelosi just explained during her press conference they have to raise the debt ceiling to pay for the trillions Trump and the treasonous conservative/Republicans put on the federal credit card with their tax cut scam. The debt ceiling is to pay for the bills they already have not future spending.

And of course no despicables had anything to do with the debt. And for damn sure, nothing to do with the current skyrocketing growth.

Fuck congress. We need do demand a balanced budget that includes a planned paydown of the debt over 10 years.

First nobody has said ONLY Republicans have increased the debt.
Second when faced with the EXACT situation with Trump as president and Republican controlled Senate and House, the debt ceiling had to be raised, and even with the other party in power EVERY SINGLE DEMOCRAT voted to keep the United States of America’s credibility in tact.

asshole McConnell is trying to make paying your bills political

That is sure not what he was saying when Trump was running a trillion dollar deficit in a time of prosperity before anyone ever even heard of COVID 19. He was still pushing the old lie that the tax cuts would pay for themselves.

Balanced budgets are OKAY for states, but it would be very troublesome to try to hold the Federal Government to a balanced budget.

For instance what would you like to allocate to FEMA for hurricane season, then what happens if another storm devastates Florida, Carolina and New York after FEMA’s budget for the year has been spent

the Federal Government has to be able to spend when necessary.

And now he is anti military and national defense which are our biggest budget expenditures. So he wants to drastically cut the military down to the bone as well as defend the police who receive huge amounts of federal spending.

First, username, despicables spend, deplorables don't, but that historical truism is no longer valid. Politicians are now recklessly spending us to a point of no return. On both sids of the aisle.

Shooter would not consider it an accomplishment to say an entire political party voted to allow reckless spending to continue.

Second, states, business, and families have to plan for emergencies. Why can't the feds? Why can't they have a rainy day fund like states and use credit and debt as a further shock absorber?

Why do we keep making up excuses so these fuckers can continue their pig spending ways?

Time to grow up, pay up, and get responsible.

Treasonous conservative/Republicans have always been lie and spend. They increased spending on things like the military while cutting taxes on the rich and corporations racking up more than two trillion in debt on their tax cuts alone still telling the old warn out lie that tax cuts would pay for themselves which has never happened once.

Which happens every time treasonous conservative/Republicans get into power. They cut taxes on the 1%, spend like drunken sailors, just put it on the cr3edit card roll tho0se -presses print that money because money does grow on trees because that's where they get their paper to write their IOUs on.

And then when Democrats come in they scream their heads off about the deficit and debt they racked up.

8 Million voted for a demented old man who wants to spend up to $12 TRILLION in his first year.
But according to stumbler, deplorables spend "like drunken sailors".

The 5% and corporations pay 80% of the taxes in this country, the rest of us enjoy the fruits of their labor, minus of course, the take the government robbers take off the top.

So lets just say FEMA has a budget (with a rainy day fund)150%

Then this year we have a hurricane that costs 85% of that budget

Then we have a second hurricane that is worse, thus depleting the remaining budget.

What happens when a third hurricane hits, are those people on their own?
Do you borrow from next years budget?

your suggestions are unrealistic and juvenile in their simplicity!!!!

What would be funny is to ask him where and how much he wants to cut to balance the budget?

Let's just look at that spending and see what he wants to cut to balance the budget.

Defense and international security assistance: Another 16 percent of the budget, or $697 billion, paid for defense and security-related international activities. The bulk of the spending in this category reflects the underlying costs of the Defense Department. The total also includes the cost of supporting operations in Afghanistan and other related activities, described as Overseas Contingency Operations in the budget, funding for which totaled $77 billion in 2019.

Security of the country is the first job of the federal government. If they fail at that, not much else matters.

      Cuts?
Not Shooters job. Government should be able to live within the restraints of what this country can afford. For shooter, thats 15% of GDP, with an additional 5% for debt reduction.

Twitterless Trump trashes Lindsey Graham in late-night email rampage whining that his coup attempt failed

    Bob Brigham

Unable to tweet his train of thought views to millions on Twitter following his permanent ban from the social media platform, the former leader of the free world has been emailing his contemplations to reporters.

On Wednesday evening, as legal experts were ridiculing Trump's latest filing in his lawsuit against Twitter, Trump repeatedly emailed out statements trashing senior Republicans.

It started after 8 p.m. eastern when Trump trashed the 43rd president of the United States as a "Republican in Name Only" (RINO).

"RINO former President George 'Dubya' Bush and his flunky Karl Rove are endorsing warmongering and very low polling, Liz Cheney. Bush is the one who got us into the quicksand of the Middle East and, after spending trillions of dollars and killing nearly a million people, the Middle East was left in worse shape after 21 years than it was when he started his stupidity," Trump wrote.

Trump's rage against his own party then turned to his complaints that the media has seen "evidence" of election fraud, even though he went on to say such evidence was not yet public.

"Why is the Fake News Media continuing on their path of saying, 'baseless and disproven lies,' concerning the Presidential Election of 2020, no matter how much evidence they see?" Trump wondered, even though his lies of election fraud have been thoroughly debunked.

"The proof is massive and staggering. The Presidential Election of 2020 was Rigged! When the information becomes public, people will see that it wasn't even close," Trump predicted, even though he offered no such information.

It was then time for GOP Senators to share the hot seat.

"I spent virtually no time with Senators Mike Lee of Utah, or Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, talking about the 2020 Presidential Election Scam or, as it is viewed by many, the 'Crime of the Century.' Lindsey and Mike should be ashamed of themselves for not putting up the fight necessary to win," Trump said of his failed coup attempt.

Trump was apparently referring to reports in the new book Peril by Bob Woodward and Robert Costa that Lee and Graham had investigated claims of election fraud and found they "added up to nothing."

"Mike Lee, Lindsey Graham, and all of the other Republicans who were unwilling to fight for the Presidency of the United States, which would have included at least an additional four Republican Senators, two in Georgia, one in Michigan, one in Arizona, are letting the Democrats get away with the greatest Election Hoax in history—a total con job!" Trump said, arguing that the results in four Senate elections should have also been overturned as part of his coup.

Trump continued to trash the Republican Party for not overturning the election, which was won by Joe Biden.

"The Democrats are vicious and fight like hell, and the Republicans do nothing about it. RINOs fight harder against Republicans than they do against Democrats. They want to be so politically correct, even if that means losing our Country, which is happening now," Trump claimed.

Even though Republicans lost control of both the Senate and House of Representatives on Trump's watch, he voiced his wishes that they could schedule hearings. Absent that, he said he was content if the GOP would use political theater to push his "Big Lie."

"They should be ashamed of themselves. Why don't they have hearings? Or even if just Republicans had open public sessions, we would all hear the irrefutable facts," Trump argued, even though the irrefutable fact is that he lost.

White House aides shout down questions during Biden-Johnson meeting
White House aides late Tuesday shouted down reporters’ questions to President Biden and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson during an Oval Office meeting, leaving the president’s answer to an immigration question undecipherable.

The pool of reporters covering the event immediately filed a formal complaint with White House press secretary Jen Psaki’s office.

The two world leaders had met at the White House to discuss trade, the Afghanistan exit, COVID-19 and other issues.

Mr. Johnson and Mr. Biden did not engage in the traditional post-meeting press conference that U.S. presidents traditionally have with visiting world leaders. Instead, they briefly met with reporters before the meeting.

While Mr. Biden opted to tell a lengthy story about how many miles he has traveled on Amtrak, Mr. Johnson suggested they take questions from the press.

The prime minister called on a British reporter who asked about a United Kingdom criminal case involving a U.S. official claiming diplomatic immunity. A second British reporter posed a question to Mr. Johnson.

When it was time for U.S. reporters to ask questions, White House aides shouted over them and rushed them out of the Oval Office.

White House aides shouted down U.S. attempts to ask questions,” CBS reporter Ed O’Keefe tweeted. “I asked Biden about the southern border and we couldn’t decipher what he said.”

Mr. O’Keefe later said it appeared that Mr. Biden said: “Violence is not justified.”

his reaction to the situation on the southern border. Due to shouting by White House aides, the noise of everyone leaving the president wearing his mask, we could not make out his answer,” he said in a second tweet.

Other reporters also griped on Twitter, and British journalist Pippa Crerar chimed in, saying the shouting was “totally out of order.”

“An unwelcome lack of accountability,” she tweeted.

In a statement, White House Correspondents Association President Steven Portnoy, a CBS News reporter, confirmed that the press pool spoke with Ms. Psaki about the incident.

“Psaki was unaware that the incident had occurred and suggested that she was not in position to offer an immediate solution. Your pooler requested a press conference. Psaki suggested the president takes questions several times a week,” Mr. Portnoy said.

Trump loses bid to enforce nondisclosure agreement against Omarosa Manigault Newman

Former President Donald Trump's effort to enforce a nondisclosure agreement against former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman has failed, The New York Times reports.

Trump sued Manigault Newman after she published incriminating tell-all book about him in 2018.

"The decision in the case, which Mr. Trump's campaign filed in August 2018 with the American Arbitration Association in New York, comes as the former president is enmeshed in a number of investigations and legal cases related to his private company," the Times reports.

In a statement, Manigault Newman, who was also a contestant on the reality TV show "The Apprentice," said that Trump "has used this type of vexatious litigation to intimidate, harass and bully for years."

"Finally the bully has met his match!" she added.

"That's right, folks. We won," said her attorney, John M. Phillips, on Twitter. "We won. We won. We beat the former President of the United States at his own game and added precedent to show his NDA is worthless."

NDAs have been used by Trump for decades, when one is appropriate for corporate purposes it is very useful.

When they are used as a ‘gag’ device, they are only successful if not challenged in court, as intimidating said employees’ silence.

When challenged, they are found to be overly broad.

That is the main reason all of Trump’s NDA use a reliance of arbitration for any disputes, which if written properly, can keep the dispute out of court.

Trump Endorses Big Lie-Pusher Hours After She Says He Should Be Carved Into Mount Rushmore

Donald Trump has endorsed an embittered former TV news anchor turned conspiracy theorist for Arizona’s 2022 governor’s race, just hours after she said that his big head should be carved into Mount Rushmore. Kari Lake is an ex-local news anchor who entered politics this year by bashing the media, rallying against mask mandates, and parroting Trump’s baseless conspiracy theories about his 2020 election defeat. On Tuesday, she posted: “Who thinks President Trump should be added to Mt. Rushmore? @govkristinoem can we make this happen?” Trump was clearly pleased by the message, and announced his endorsement shortly afterward. The ex-president said Lake “will fight to restore Election Integrity (both past and future!)... She is against COVID lockdowns, Cancel Culture, and will end ‘woke’ curriculum in our schools. She will do a far better job than RINO Governor Doug Ducey—won't even be a contest!” Ducey famously silenced a call from the White House while signing the papers that certified election results showing Trump lost Arizona to Joe Biden.

Second Trump’s campaign use of NDAs is on solid legal ground.
Though his use of NDAs as a way to avoid staff writing
tell-all books is not so solid, because those people are employed by the American people, though he hired them we pay them.

Like non compete agreements, non disclosure agreements are fiendishly hard to enforce.

It hasn't stopped every administration for decades from using them.
