GOP lawmaker claims to be unemployed during bizarre deer hunting incident in residential neighborhood

Utah GOP Rep. Travis Seegmiller is under fire from residents in his community who say he shot a baby deer as it was walking through the yard of a private residence and then lied about it.

A resident speaking to Cedar City News says he confronted Seegmiller, who told him he shot the deer because he was unemployed and needed meat for his family. When the resident, who wanted to be identified only as "Sean," asked Seegmiller why he went on private property to collect the carcass, he claimed he got permission from the property owner beforehand.

But according to the property owner, Dr. Kelly Reber, Seegmiller did not have permission.

"Reber said he had never met the man before and told him that he could not shoot any deer in his yard," the Cedar City News reports. "Seegmiller then allegedly told Reber he had actually shot the deer in the yard across the street, but the animal ran into Reber's yard and he was just retrieving it from the property. Reber said the area where the deer was shot is clearly marked with several 'no hunting' signs."

After Reber asked Seegmiller how shooting the deer could be legal when it's out of season, Reber said Seegmiller showed him two depredation tags which he said gave him permission. Reber then asked why Seegmiller was shooting in a residential neighborhood, to which Seegmiller replied by referring to his hunting map, saying he thought he was "out in the country." He also claimed at he was new to hunting and didn't "know all the rules."

But as Reber points out, there's no way Seegmiller could have thought he was out in the country since the area he was in was heavily developed.

When residents later called police on the matter, Seegmiller reportedly left the area by the time police arrived.

According to the Cedar City News, when the St. George News reached out to Seegmiller for comment, he replied: "I prefer not to speak with you about this matter."

The Salt Lake Tribune also reached out to Seegmiller, but received no response. "Something very strange is happening with Rep. Travis Seegmiller," the newspaper wrote.

On Thursday, CNN's Donie O'Sullivan spoke with Trump supporter Mary Quintanilla for her views on Facebook fact-checking — and she flatly rejected the concept of it.

"I have had notifications with regard to maybe some of the COVID issues," said Quintanilla. "They will say that's fact-checked and may not be accurate. I just say, okay. Then I still post it."

"There's a video that Eric Trump retweeted a few days after the election that showed Trump ballots being set on fire," said O'Sullivan.

"I seen that," cut in Quintanilla.

"That's false," said O'Sullivan. "The election officials in Virginia who control those ballots said they are not real ballots. Is that not a good service that something like that gets — when it's shown false?"

"No," said Quintanilla. "Aren't we smart enough to say, whose video is that?"

"That video played into the idea on election week that there was this mass fraud. It played into the idea," said O'Sullivan, shortly adding, "There's so much information. Are you cherry-picking your facts?"

"You could," said Quintanilla. "Whose reality is important but your own reality?"

"Shouldn't we have a shared understanding?" countered O'Sullivan.

"It's impossible," said Quintanilla. "It's impossible because of the bias."

GOP apologizes for fundraising email putting words in Mike Pence's mouth about the 2020 election: report

According to a report from Newsweek, the National Republican Senate Committee (NRSC) has been forced to walk back a fundraising email that made it look like former Vice President Mike Pence was questioning the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential election.

Pence is currently reinserting himself into the public eye after being accused of disloyalty to Donald Trump for refusing to stop the certification of the Electoral College votes on the day that the Capitol riot occurred. Given his public refusal to attack the results of the 2020 presidential election, the email from the NRSC immediately drew complaints over the misrepresentation of the former VP views.

According to Newsweek's Jason Lemon, "Pence refused to cave to former President Donald Trump's pressure to not formally certify the official election results on January 6, the day the U.S. Capitol was assaulted. The former vice president went on to attend President Joe Biden's inauguration on January 20. In June, Pence said he was 'proud' to have certified the official election results early on the morning of January 7."

That, however, didn't stop the NRSC from asking for donations by writing, "Since their contested takeover, the Biden-Harris administration has unleashed a tidal wave of Left-wing policies that threaten to wipe out the progress we made for a safer, more prosperous, more secure America," over Pence's signature.

After being called out, NRSC communications director Chris Hartline issued a statement reading, "We appreciate Vice President Pence's support in helping us win back the Senate. Our team made a mistake and a vendor sent the wrong version of an email. It was not approved by Vice President Pence's team and we regret the error."

Hartline refused to address whether a follow-up email was sent to their donors' list clearing the matter up.

Former Vice President Mike Pence on Friday slammed President Biden's speech in which he expressed frustration at those who refuse to get vaccinated for COVID-19.

"I have to tell you the president’s speech yesterday was unlike anything I'd ever heard from an American president," Pence said on "Fox & Friends."

On Thursday, Biden announced six measures intended to increase coronavirus vaccination rates, which have slowed in recent months, allowing the Delta variant to spread. The measures included a requirement that all federal employees and contractors get vaccinated, with no exemptions.

Biden also announced that companies with more than 100 employees must require their workers to get vaccinated, with some exceptions, or face weekly testing — a move that conservatives have criticized as government overreach.

“We’ve been patient, but our patience is wearing thin,” Biden said in a speech from the White House, making clear that he blamed the unvaccinated for the current surge. “And your refusal has cost all of us.”

Pence, who led the White House coronavirus task force under President Donald Trump, bristled at Biden's frustration.

"I mean, to have the president of the United States say that he has been patient but his patience is wearing thin — that’s not how the American people expect to be spoken to by our elected leaders," Pence said.

Former president George Bush appears to have struck a nerve on Saturday after he called out domestic terrorists during his 9/11 remembrance speech, saying there is little difference between them and the religious extremists who killed nearly 3,000 people during the attack in 2001.

During his speech in Shanksville, Pennsylvania the former president noted, "There is little cultural overlap between violent extremists abroad and violent extremists at home. But in their disdain for pluralism, disregard for human life. In their determination to defile national symbols they are children of the same foul spirit and it is our continuing duty to confront them."

Despite the fact that Bush never mentioned Donald Trump or the January 6th insurrection and riot that followed his speech at a "Stop the Steal" rally, conservative gadfly Jack Posobiec lashed out by saying Trump supporters were being attacked.

According to Posobiec -- an editor at Human Events who was one of the conservatives who pushed the "Pizzagate" conspiracy that was an article of faith among QAnon followers -- Bush was out of line.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote, "Disgraced fmr president George W Bush is using the 9/11 memorial to say Trump voters are the same as the radical jihadists who attacked 20 years ago This is who he is."

He then followed that up with a series of tweets attacking Bush -- which you can see below:

Controversial Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene (R-GA) is was caught spreading disinformation about coronavirus vaccines on social media on Saturday.

Greene spread the lie about the vaccines by complaining about nurses who have received vaccination being fired from the jobs for being threats to public health.

"They are Nazi's. The Democrats, media, and the left called President Trump and all of us Nazi's for 5 years and never once did Trump or any of us segregate, discriminate, or treat people this way," she complained.

"When are Democrats going to stop being dictators and actually read and trust the science that they claim to believe?" she asked, posting a screengrab of a story falsely claiming fully vaccinated healthcare workers are a threat to patients.


But the story Greene shared is disinformation, as Reuters reported last month.

Reuters noted that people on social media were sharing a story "posted by the anti-vaccine campaign group Children's Health Defense on Aug. 23, 2021 with the headline: 'Study: Fully Vaccinated Healthcare Workers Carry 251 Times Viral Load, Pose Threat to Unvaccinated Patients, Co-Workers.'"

"This, however, was not the premise of the study. Rather, it sought to compare viral loads among workers with Delta variant vs previous variants of SARS-CoV-2," Reuters reported.

The study was also of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, which has not been authorized for use inside the United States.

"The paper does not conclude that fully vaccinated healthcare workers carry 251 times the viral load of the virus compared to unvaccinated healthcare workers. Rather, it concludes that 'viral loads of breakthrough Delta variant infection cases were 251 times higher than those of cases infected with old strains detected between March-April 2020.' It adds that it found no correlation between vaccine-induced neutralizing antibody levels, and viral loads or developing symptoms," Reuters reported.

Twitter has suspended Greene multiple times for spreading vaccine misinformation on their social media platform. But the company keeps allowing her to return, even though she keeps pushing discredited disinformation during the pandemic.

On Tuesday, NBC 10 Boston reported that William Marsh, a Republican lawmaker in the New Hampshire House of Representatives, has switched his party affiliation to Democratic in response to what he considers to be "extremist" anti-science rhetoric from the state GOP.

"I cannot stand idly by while extremists reject the reasonable precautions of vaccinations and masks," said Marsh in a statement. "And so I have reluctantly changed my party affiliation. I urge others to consider what is happening and come to their own conclusions."

Marsh, a physician, has been critical of the New Hampshire GOP's lack of concern over the pandemic for months, in particular slamming the carelessness that led to the COVID-19 death of New Hampshire House Speaker Dick Hinch, just days after being elected to that post.

"In an interview with NBC10 Boston, Marsh said the last straw was a rally held by New Hampshire House Republicans on Tuesday opposing President Joe Biden's proposed COVID-19 vaccine requirement for large companies," reported Marc Fortier. "'They're calling for a special session to basically do the same thing (Florida Gov. Ron) DeSantis is doing in Florida,' he said."

New Hampshire has the largest state legislature in the entire country, with its house alone hosting 400 members. Republicans captured a narrow majority in both chambers last year on the coattails of Republican Gov. Chris Sununu's re-election, even as Joe Biden carried the state by seven points.

Viral montage reveals 'despicable' GOP history of rape comments: 'This is the Republican Party'

When a reporter recently asked Gov. Greg Abbott to address the fact that Texas' draconian new anti-abortion law makes no exception for rape or incest victims, his bizarre response was that the law doesn't punish rape victims because Texas will "work tirelessly" to "eliminate all rapists" in his state. Abbott has drawn widespread criticism for that comment, and some of the criticism has come from the progressive group MeidasTouch — which, this week, released a scathing video showing some of the appalling things that Republicans have said about rape in the past.

Tweeting the video, MeidasTouch urged Twitter users to retweet it if they "agree the GOP are the most despicable force for evil in America" — and the comments from Republicans are, to be sure, despicable.

One of the comments is from former Rep. Todd Akin, who former Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill (now an MSNBC contributor) defeated in Missouri's 2012 U.S. Senate race before losing to now-Sen. Josh Hawley in 2018. Akin, in 2012, infamously commented, "If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down."

Former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, who was voted out of office in 2006, is seen in the video urging rape victims to "make the most of a bad situation" and "accept what God is giving to you."

Former Indiana State Treasurer Richard Mourdock, in the video, says of pregnant rape victims, "Even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, it is something that God intended to happen."
