Michigan GOP candidate says public schools are plotting to 'eliminate the white people'

On Wednesday, Michigan Advance reported that Mellissa Carone, a GOP anti-"voter fraud" activist who is running for state legislature in Michigan, espoused white supremacist propaganda to supporters on social media.

"During a Facebook live video Tuesday, Mellissa Carone ... said that public schools and the government are trying to 'eliminate' white people in America," reported Allison Donahue. "'They’re trying to eliminate the white people in America, particularly the white male in America,' Carone said after criticizing public schools for asking students for their pronouns and calling transgender rights 'government control.'"

"These comments are similar to what is said by far-right extremists against critical race theory, which is a graduate-level course examining the systemic effects of white supremacy in America. It is not taught in any of Michigan’s K-12 schools," continued the report. "In the nearly 90-minute video, Carone also criticized the COVID-19 vaccine, statewide shutdowns during the pandemic and defended insurrectionists who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. "



Carone gained national attention after she served as the star witness for Trump ally Rudy Giuliani during a Michigan hearing on election integrity, where she baselessly claimed to have seen Dominion Voting Systems rigging electoral counts and claimed that the Republican state lawmaker questioning her looked like a penis. She has also claimed that the COVID-19 vaccine is a sign of the Biblical apocalypse.

Until recently, Carone was on probation for a "computer crime" after she allegedly harassed her fiancé's ex-wife with sexually explicit videos.

Republican supporters of Donald Trump are endangering the country with their ongoing attempts to steal elections, according to a hard-hitting new editorial by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

"In perhaps the saddest statement since Jan. 6 on the state of American democracy, Republican lawmakers across the country have been asked to say three simple words: Joe. Biden. Won. But they just can’t bring themselves to do it, even though Biden beat President Donald Trump by more than 7 million popular votes and trounced him in the Electoral College toll. In other words, those GOP lawmakers refuse to recognize the will of the people. Which means they no longer recognize democracy," the newspaper explained.

Trump has announced he will commemorate the Jan. 6 insurrection with a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago resort as he continues his refusal to concede he lost.

"An October poll found that nearly a third of Republican respondents said violence may be necessary to put Trump back in power. Which means those Republicans no longer recognize democracy as the only correct way to install leaders and peacefully transfer power. Sales of firearms in America are skyrocketing," the newspaper noted. "These are frightening times for anyone paying attention to the trends. The storming of the Capitol on Jan. 6 was the starkest example of a willingness to use violence to achieve what a free election couldn’t."

The newspaper was left wondering if the country would survive the assault on democracy by Trump supporters.

"When one side comes this close to abandoning the fundamental pillars upon which this nation is founded, the question becomes more than just theoretical: Can American democracy, or America itself, survive if this radical faction doesn’t come to its senses?" the newspaper asked.

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) ran to the defense of her comrade-in-arms, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) on Sunday morning after Twitter pulled the plug on the Georgia lawmaker's main account where she had been posting misinformation about Covid-19.

With Taylor Greene calling the social media platform that she previously flooded with multi-tweet rants almost every day the "enemy of America," Boebert piled on Twitter with a threat that the company will pay if Republicans reclaim the House in November.

In her tweet, the Colorado Republican complained that Donald Trump also saw his account permanently suspended, writing: " Twitter permanently suspended a sitting US President. They’ve now permanently suspended a sitting member of US Congress. Of course, both from the same party. They forget that in 2022 we are taking back the House and we WILL be holding them accountable!"

It remains to be seen how Congress can compel Twitter to host any account that violates their terms of service.

‘Nasty perv’: Trump-loving televangelist reportedly facing FBI probe for inappropriate sexual behavior

The FBI is investigating sexual misconduct claims against Tennessee televangelist teacher Perry Stone, according to a report published in the Chattanooga Times Free Press. The allegations against Stone include "groping, unwanted kissing and showing women he was aroused."

At least seven people have spoken to the FBI regarding the allegations against the pro-Trump pastor. As the Times Free Press points out, "people connected or formerly connected to Stone's ministry" are starting to ask questions about the lack of accountability regarding the accusations due to the fact that they first surfaced over a year ago.

The publication noted that as Stone was recently confronted while giving a sermon at his church. Stone was speaking to his congregation about people who've walked away from the church when a woman stood up and spoke out.

"Probably because you keep touching them, you nasty perv," she yelled. "Why don't you tell them the real reason why they left? Because you kept touching them."



Stone responded by threatening to have the woman arrested.

"Ma'am, I'll have you arrested, and I'll bring a lawsuit against you for making statements like that," he said before security guards removed the woman. "You've talked to people who told 16 lies on my wife and I! That's who you've been talking to."

Stone's support for former President Donald Trump and his dissemination of COVID-19 conspiracy theories are well documented. In November of 2019, he asked his congregation to pray against the impeachment inquiry into then-President Trump’s and warned that Christians will unify in prayer to ask God to strike Democrats down. In March of last year, he claimed that the pandemic was God's punishment for LGBT people.

Jordan Klepper describes 'mob mentality' of MAGA crowds when he interviews them at Trump rallies

"The Daily Show's" Roy Wood Jr. hosted MSNBC host Chris Hayes and Jordan Klepper for this week's podcast ahead of the first anniversary of the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, the Daily Beast reports.

During the podcast, Klepper discussed attending an Iowa Trump rally and he noted that there was no "coherent narrative" among supporters about why the insurrection was wrong. Some spouted conspiracy theories like Antifa was really behind it or that it was a "false flag" operation by the "deep state." Others claimed nothing happened at all.

"I, for one, was surprised how quickly that information and those disjunctive narratives came about," Klepper said.

The violence that was seen that day has now spread to school board meetings in North Carolina and in death threats against local election officials.

"They don’t like to be made fun of," Klepper said of MAGA world. "Even if you’re not immediately recognized, we have to be savvy because there is a mob mentality when we have a camera up."

He warned that it isn't just that democracy is crumbling, but "we were never interested in democracy as an idea. We were interested in democracy as a bullet to put in a gun that we could shoot to win the contest of ‘my team beat your team.'" People don't care about politics, he explained, they just "want to play games."

The north Texas realtor who made headlines for taking a private plane to D.C. on Jan. 6 was recently sentenced to 60 days in prison for partaking in the riot at the U.S. Capitol that day.

Eclipsing her earlier headlines, Jenna Ryan went viral for a series of tweets she wrote where she declared that she's definitely "not going to jail.”

“Sorry I have blonde hair white skin a great job a great future and I’m not going to jail. Sorry to rain on your hater parade. I did nothing wrong," she wrote.

Days before she reported to prison on Dec. 21, Ryan, 51, spoke to NBC News, saying she regretted her decision to go to Capitol, but she then likened her experience to Jews who suffered during the Holocaust.


“They have no idea who I am as a person, what my beliefs are, what I’ve been through, who I am," she added. "They see me as a one-dimensional caricature. They don’t see me as a human.”

"And so, that is the epitome of a scapegoat. Just like they did that to the Jews in Germany. Those were scapegoats. And I believe that people who are Caucasian are being turned into evil in front of the media.”

When pressed on her comparison, she chose not to go further.

“You know what’s so sad? That I’m afraid to answer your question because I will be attacked for saying that," she said.


Ryan pleaded guilty in August to parading, demonstrating or picketing in the Capitol, which is a misdemeanor.

She faced up to six months in prison, but prosecutors asked U.S. District Judge Christopher R. Cooper for the District of Columbia to sentence her to 60 days.

'I acted the fool': Tennessee GOP lawmaker regrets trying to pull down basketball ref's pants during argument

Tennessee State Rep. Jeremy Faison issued a public apology this week after he was caught on video trying to pull down a high school basketball referee's pants during an argument at a game.

Local news station WSMV reports that Faison was attending a boys basketball game at Providence Academy in Johnson City when a tussle broke out among players over a loose ball.

At this point, Faison left his seat and walked over to the scoring table where he started arguing with a referee. After a brief exchange of words, Faison tried to pull the ref's pants down and then walked away.

He was subsequently ejected from the building.



Faison took to Twitter in the wake of the incident and delivered a public apology.

"Unfortunately, I acted the fool tonight and lost my temper on a ref," he said. "I was wanting him to fight me. Totally lost my junk and got booted from the gym. I’ve never really lost my temper but I did tonight and it was completely stupid of me. Emotions getting in the way of rational thoughts are never good. I hope to be able to find the ref and ask for his forgiveness. I was bad wrong."

Michigan's former GOP speaker accused of molesting teenage girl

Republican Lee Chatfield, who served as speaker of Michigan's state House through 2020, stands accused of molesting a teenage girl who attended his church.

The victim, now Chatfield's sister-in-law, has filed a criminal complaint against him with the Lansing Police Department — which the city has referred to the Michigan State Police, according to CityPulse.

Now 27, the victim alleges the assaults began when she was 15 and continued until July 2021. When the abuse began, she attended Northern Michigan Baptist Bible Church as well as the Northern Michigan Christian Academy School.

"Chatfield’s father, Rusty, is the pastor of the church and the administrator for the school," CityPulse reports. "Before Chatfield ran for the state House in 2014, he was a teacher at the school, as well as the men’s soccer coach and the athletic director."



Chatfield, known for his anti-LGBTQ politics, was elected to the state House in 2014. He became the state's youngest speaker of the House in 2019.

"He briefly served as CEO of Southwest Michigan First, an economic development group in the Kalamazoo area. However, controversy over his anti-LGBTQ politics led him to resign the position last February," CityPulse reports. "During his time in the Legislature he was also arrested at the Pellston Airport in northern Michigan for attempting to bring a loaded handgun onto an airplane. He did not face criminal charges for the incident, but did have to pay a fine for having an unregistered firearm as well as a fine to the Transportation Security Administration."

Chatfield couldn't be reached for comment.

The next wave of extremist cults are already muscling into QAnon turf.

The titular Q hasn't sent a cryptic message for followers to decode in over a year, and while the right-wing extremist movement continues to thrive in its leader's absence, other cults are in line to replace it, reported Wired.

"Already, we are seeing the nascent roots of what 2022 will look like — in the coalescing and increasingly radical voices of the anti-vaccine community, in the anti-mask protests we are seeing across the world, and in labeling governments like Australia’s 'fascist' for subjecting their citizens to continued lockdowns," the publication reported. "These are the seeds for an extremism that will be sticky, lasting, and difficult to uproot — tied, as it has become, to core personal identity."



Throughout history, cults have thrived in periods of uncertainty, and the global pandemic has upended societal and economic norms for nearly two years, and Donald Trump's election loss has angered and unmoored his followers.

"Cult-like extremist movements appear to provide an antidote to the potent mixture of isolation, uncertainty, changing narratives, and fear we have experienced during the pandemic by offering a skewed form of safety, stability, and certainty, along with a cohort of people who are just like us, who believe us and believe in us," the publication reported. "As the activist David Sullivan — a man who devoted his life to infiltrating cults in order to extricate loved ones from their grip — pointed out, no one ever joins a cult: They join a community of people who see them. In 2022, this appeal of cults will only grow, and those that arise next year will make QAnon seem like the good old days."

Crumbleys drained son’s bank account after shooting — say extramarital affairs are ‘irrelevant’: report

The parents of Michigan school shooter Ethan Crumbley drained their son's bank account and purchased four cell phones before fleeing the county prior to their arrests, prosecutors said in court Friday.

Meanwhile, a defense attorney for James and Jennifer Crumbley argued that the couple's extramarital affairs are "irrelevant" to the criminal case against them, Law & Crime reports.

Prosecutors have alleged that the Crumbleys ignored red flags related to their 15-year-old son because they were preoccupied with their extramarital affairs, in addition to being sidetracked by "substance abuse" and caring for their horses.

“The information provided by the prosecution related to extramarital relationships is not only clearly irrelevant to the issue of bond or any criminal responsibility but is also a clear intention by the prosecution to create a conflict between the parties,” defense attorney Mariell Lehman argued in court Friday, referring to the fact that the Crumbleys are represented by the same law firm. “Your honor, there is no conflict. We have explained and discussed the matter extramarital relationships with our clients and there are no issues.”

A judge ultimately denied the Crumbleys' request to lower their $500,000 bonds.

Prosecutors said the Crumbleys remain a flight risk "especially given the way they were arrested," Law & Crime reports.

James Crumbley was employed transiently by Door Dash, Jennifer Crumbley had been fired from her job, and they had put their home up for sale after falling $11,000 behind on payments, according to prosecutors.

After the shooting, prosecutors said the Crumbleys "started making plans to sell their horses, line up a hotel, bought four cell phones, drained their son’s bank account, withdrew money from their own accounts, and went on the lam rather than turn themselves in to the authorities," Law & Crime reports.

"In total, the couple had 'more than a dozen credit cards and gift cards' and $6,600 in cash," according to the site. "The couple tried to destroy one of the four phones before they were taken into custody."

The Crumbley's withdrew $3,000 from their son's account, leaving only 99 cents in it, according to the Detroit News. While the Crumbleys have private attorneys, their son is represented by a public defender.

"During a breakout session between the judge and the attorneys at the end of the proceeding, Jennifer and James Crumbley appeared to mouth words and make hand gestures to one another on the court video feed in an apparent attempt to communicate," Law & Crime reports.
