And again you are exactly right. You pay what they SAY you owe. They offered us a deal. Either take the amount they say our accountant fucked up or they were going to audit us for the past 7 years. We took the deal. But it was at a time when the economy had crashed around us and I worked for starvation wages at my newspaper. They did not care. The fees and penalties started adding up so fast we ended up borrowing the money to get them paid off.

A good strategy in this situation is to ask for a payment plan. Make every payment on time, with extra, if you can afford it. This reduces the final interest. When the back taxes plus interest is paid off, request a waiver of penalties. For taxpayers who cooperated, it's granted more often than not.

Back in the day they had a thing called debtor’s prison, though I don’t know much about it, the IRS is more ‘friendly’.

    Don’t ya think?

Debtor's prison was for people who reneged on private contracts. The lender could go to court and have the debtor's assets seized and if that wasn't enough, seize the debtor as well. The debtor's family and friends were expected to find the money to buy his freedom.

These days, Americans don't go to prison for missing a car payment.

But, somebody has to pay for replacing the windows of the Capitol building, so taxes are just a fact of life. There will always be freeloaders who think the rest of us will pay their share and don't mind using stuff other people paid for.

Some of these are the ones who think a tax refund is like a winning lottery scratch off. It's money that magically appears because you paid someone to fill out a form a fifth grader could do. It's not so much that they intend to be a tax cheat, they're just too stupid to know different.

Eric Trump's lawyer drops him as client in Trump Org fraud suit: report

Trump Organization executive vice president Eric Trump on Fox News (screengrab)

On Tuesday, Forbes reported that Eric Trump's attorney representing him in New York State's civil fraud suit against the Trump family business has resigned.

"Marc Mukasey of Mukasey Frenchman LLP informed a New York state Supreme Court judge in Manhattan that he was withdrawing from the case on Sept. 14," reported Zach Everson. "The move comes one day after a judge's order to seal a stipulation between the parties was filed. Before that agreement, the docket shows no activity in this case since January. It's not clear if there's any connection between the agreement and Mukasey's departure."

"Mukasey declined to comment on the record for this story," said the report. "He has represented Eric Trump in the case since it was filed in August 2020. Eric and representatives from the Trump Organization have not replied to inquiries."

According to the report, Mukasey has also represented a number of clients in other high-profile cases, including Eddie Gallagher, an accused war criminal pardoned by former President Donald Trump.

Eric Trump has denied all wrongdoing in the case, which alleges the Trump Organization improperly inflated the value of assets to get more favorable loans. He has accused New York Attorney General Letitia James of "prosecutorial misconduct."

In addition to the civil suit, the Trump Organization and its longtime CFO Allen Weisselberg face criminal fraud charges for allegedly paying out non-monetary benefits to top officials, including car leases and rent-free housing in Trump properties, without paying taxes on the value of those benefits.

    Wait.
The rumor was that trump would march into the oval office and claim his throne in august on september 18, soon.

What happened, did he do it? Did general Milley stop him with a karate chop? Did harris distract trump by kneeling with dignity?

Inquiring minds want to know .....

Seems shooter is throwing shit against the wall to obfuscate things. None of the things I read talk about Trump taking office on September 18th. I'm going to ask shooter for specifics, but I doubt he'll show us... You know where it's at, these things you are claiming, but will you show any specifics.

Legal experts have been just laughing themselves silly over the error filled void of legal argument suit Trump just filed against his Niece and the NYT. They were wondering why Trump would use such an amateur lawyer to file the suit. And this is why.

Trump is bleeding attorneys -- and legal experts say that 'isn't normal'

President Donald Trump (AFP / Mandel NGAN)

Donald Trump faces even more legal challenges than ever, but he's lost some of his high-profile lawyers since leaving the White House.

The relatively unknown attorney Alina Habba filed Trump's lawsuit against his niece Mary and the New York Times, rather than some of the more familiar names -- most notably the Gawker-killing celebrity lawyer Charles Harder -- the former president has relied on in recent years, reported The Daily Beast.

"I'm not allowed to discuss attorney-client matters," Harder told the website, "so I cannot respond except to ask who is saying this because they are probably making it up."

Two sources told The Daily Beast that Trump wanted to fire Harder earlier this year because he didn't have enough recent "wins," despite the fees he'd paid, and the twice-impeached one-term president also parted ways with longtime lawyer Marc Kasowitz, who's been representing him in a dispute with former "Apprentice" contestant Summer Zervos.

Jay Sekulow, the head of the conservative American Center for Law & Justice who worked alongside Trump through his presidency, has also stepped away from representing the former president.

"My responsibilities on the constitutional issues, as they pertain to former President Trump, have been concluded," Sekulow told The Daily Beast.

Marc Mukasey, who has been described as "the lawyer at the center of the Trump universe, raised eyebrows in the legal world when he recently withdrew himself from representing Trump in the New York criminal investigations.

"Withdrawing as defense counsel in an ongoing investigation isn't normal," said Tristan Snell, who successfully prosecuted the Trump University scandal.

You took my comment about elections from another thread, and applied it here. As far as his taxes go - he fucking lied. He said he would show them, he never did. Why not? Why is he so special and what is he trying to hide? He's the first to admit that multiple times he used the system to his own advantage. He's a liar and a thief, and I hope they catch up with him.

Yes I did HisBabyGirl, I thought it was fitting....question HBG: do you or your tax accountant, use the legal tax loopholes to your advantage or do you or your accountant just wing it and pay more taxes than the law stipulates than you should?

Nor does one of the requirements stated in the Constitution declare that ones tax records to be revealed to the public to be eligible to be a candidate for POTUS.

As for you claiming that he's a liar....some folks change their minds at times...people exaggerate the truth at times, then folks flat out lie their ass's off at an attempt to deceive, Trump got elected without showing his tax returns, beating out 21 or so other career politicians.

As for being a thief...can you cite to me the last POTUS that left office with a fortune less than when first elected?

No, I'm a rule follower. I would never dream of filing for bankruptcy, or find a way of not paying any taxes at all, just because my wealth affords me the opportunity to find ways to do so. I believe in everyone paying what they owe. If you take advantage of things that are paid for with your taxes, then you should pay your taxes.

And yes, he is a thief. Ask those who were never paid for services they provided him or his companies, had to attempt to sue him for what they were owed, only to have to settle out of court for lower amounts.

You wanna know how many times I was burnt out of money in this business that I'm in...all of it was for extra's, never was I burnt out of Contractual monies, it doesn't make the contractor/owner the thief.

A contractor/owner borrows a certain amount of money to do the building...when that money is gone...it's gone, one can only hope that another building will be built and more money will be borrowed, and if one has a good working relationship with the sub-contractors most of the time a percentage of that money owed to you is paid..in time.

Neither you or I have any idea about what the contracts/the extra's or what was negotiated between Trump and that other sub contractor...yet it's best if you just keep taking the word of an unknown to make yourself feel better about despising Trump.

    Reuters, JULY 15, 2020

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Two out of three Americans want to see President Donald Trump’s income taxes, and about half believe he has been withholding them for reasons that could hurt him politically, according to a Reuters/Ipsos public opinion poll...

The poll found 66% of adults agreed that Trump “should release his tax returns from earlier years,” and 68% said “Americans have a right to see each presidential candidate’s financial records before the election.”

When asked why the Republican president has not released the records, about half said it was because of reasons that could make it tougher for him to be re-elected...

Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, has released several years of financial disclosures and tax returns on his campaign website.

    In reply to ‘Aces’ on tax loopholes;

Sir, it is one thing to use existing loopholes to LAWFULLY pay less in taxes.

it is quite another matter to FRAUDULENTLY avoid taxes by undervalued assets or by totally avoiding paying federal and state payroll taxes

but alas it was Trump who is the accused so all is good.
(What if this was Obama, Clinton or Biden)

Enough of your diversion and arrogant strutting; answer the question you knucklehead!
Or can you? Did your handlers and propaganda pushers realize on September 19 that all their twirling and peeing about how bad it was going to be in DC on September 18 turned out to be just more of their endless bullshit? So they went mum and moved onto more lucrative lies and bullshit? Leaving you and your dumbass followers to not actually know what happened? So now you obfuscate and dance and avoid the question?

Treasonous conservative/Republicans keep making predictions of Trump being reinstated as president. And when the pr3edictions keep turning out to be false frustrations grow and treasonous conservative/Republicans will turn to violence."
So, you reprobate, was there violence in DC, or was it a no go after all? Is Trump back in the oval office?

just cause the fascists ended up, backing out of the event, doesn’t mean Law Enforcement should stop taking their threats seriously. As soon as that happens January 6ths all over the country.

If you will recall, at first the fraud claims were taken seriously, right up until no proof was offered in the 60+cases that were brought to court.

the states where they had questions AZ,WI,MI,PA & GA
all did recounts and Biden was certified as the winner.

so now 10 months later, they only have a LOSER former president that doesn’t want to be known as a LOSER, so he must have been cheated.

because he knows that he cheated, and can’t believe that he still lost.
