You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

Patty Jane's House of Curl by Lorna Landvik

    Genre: fiction

Patty Jane Dobbin should have known better than to marry a man as gorgeous as Thor Rolvaag, but she was too smitten to think twice. Yet nine months into their marriage, with a baby on the way, Thor is gone. It’s a good thing Patty Jane has her irrepressible sister, Harriet, to rely on. For it’s been said that a fine haircut can cure any number of ills, and before long the Minnesota sisters have opened a neighborhood beauty parlor complete with live harp music and an endless supply of delicious Norwegian baked goods. It’s a wonderful, warmhearted place where you can count on good friends, lots of laughter, tears, and comfort when you need it–and the unmistakable scent of somebody getting a permanent wave. . .

I'm on my second copy of this book - wore out my first one. Landvik is a great author if you like quirky characters.

I'll have to go look up some titles but I like reading collections of short stories written by some of the masters in their genre, before they were famous.
Many of the great crime fiction writers started out writing for the pulp mystery/crime magazines. Some of them would have more than one story in an issue but written under different names.
You can see how their writing style evolved into what you know them for.
Ed McBane, Elmore Leonard, John D. MacDonald and a host of others got their start writing noir for the pulp magazines and the dime store detective paperbacks.

Title; The Diving-Bell and the Butterfly

    Genre; Autobio/non-fiction/short story

Synopsis; A pretty quick read, written by Jean-Dominique Bauby, former editor-in-chief of Elle magazine. Suffered from Locked-In Syndrome and tells his story from it happened. Effectively written by him through a series of blinks. Terribly sad but beautifully written.

The Crying of Lot 49 by Thomas Pynchon

    Genre: Humor/mystery
Synopsis: A California woman becomes executor of an ex-lover's estate and stumbles onto a centuries-old feud between two European mail carrier rivals from the 1700s which seems to implicate her dead ex-lover in a vast and still ongoing conspiracy.

A great read - funny and quirky, but with some meat behind it.

It's his shortest novel and much more accessible than my favorite Pynchon - 'V' - which virtually defies the concept of 'synopsis' (at least a brief one, anyway).

A.A. Milne's two poetry books When We Were Very Young and Now We Are Six are an absolute must read.

If you haven't read his poetry, please do, even as an adult. It's an absolute joy.

A battle ensues between the old gods and the new (technology, media, etc). Recent prison parolee, Shadow is thrown in the middle of this battle when he's offered a job as the bodyguard of "Mr. Wednesday" (Zeus).

I found the book amazing, but have yet to see the TV show it spawned. I have plenty of non-fiction books I'd recommend, but I'm too lazy and a tad buzzed right now. lol

Helter Skelter by Vincent Bugliosi with Curt Gentry

One of the best true crime books ever written - very much on a par with Capote's 'In Cold Blood' - also an excellent read.

So much has been said and portrayed about Manson over the years, but this book, by the man who prosecuted the case against Manson and his Family Members is stark, engrossing and pulls no punches in retelling the horrific events that unfolded in Los Angeles.

The True Believer, by Eric Hoffer. It was published in 1951. It explains why people join fanatical religious and political movements. It can explain why people become Islamic terrorists, and why in the United States some whites are attracted to the alt right, and others are attracted to Antifa. The alt right appeals to poorly educated whites who are angry that being a white man is not enough any more to get a good job. Antifa appeals to college graduates who are angry because they cannot get the well paying jobs they think their college degrees entitle them to. People who were educated beyond their achievements in life became supporters of the French Revolution and the Russian Revolution.

Islamic countries have stagnant economies and high birth rates. People go to madrassa schools, where they learn Islamic fanaticism, rather than marketable job skills. Young men enter job markets that have no use for them. Despairing of ever being able to support a wife, they long for the favors of 72 virgins waiting for them in Paradise if they die while killing enemies of their variety of Islam.
