Man ran over and killed by responding officer's patrol car after calling 911 for help







An Ohio man has died after calling 9-11, only to have a responding police officer run him over with a patrol car, Newsweek reports.

Eric Cole, 42, called police after he was shot by an unknown assailant, telling dispatchers that was laying in the middle of the street and "about to die."

When responding officers arrived, Cole told the dispatcher that "They just hit me." When the dispatcher asked who hit him, he replied, "The police."

"Eric was lying in the street...and the officer did not see him and struck him with their vehicle," Springfield Police Chief Lee Graf said, adding that the officer immediately got out to help before he was transported to a hospital, where he later died.

An autopsy report obtained by WHIO found that Cole suffered blunt-force trauma to his torso, arms, legs and knees as well as receiving a gunshot wound to his left arm. He also had multiple fractured ribs with internal bleeding.

The officer who fatally struck Cole was identified as Amanda Rosales. She has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. An investigation into how Cole was shot is also underway.

"This was an accident. It doesn't mean it's OK. It was an accident. This was not an intentional act on the part of the officer. I am sure of that," Graf said during the press conference.

Compare what Rev. Jerrod Moultrie, the president of the local NAACP claims happened when he was stopped by police, and what the officers body cam shows happened.

Moultrie, in his version of events, said that the officer asked him charged questions, such as if there were any drugs inside his car.

In his post, the pastor said that the officer told him, “I am doing you a favor tonight not taking you to jail or writing you a ticket.”

Florence community activist Timothy Waters says he was outraged when he saw Moultrie’s post, upset that a black person would be profiled for driving a nice car in a nice neighborhood.

And, so, Waters went to the Timmonsville Police Department and requested to see a copy of the officer’s dash and bodycam video.

And that, apparently, is when Moultrie’s story started to fall apart.

“Once I got a copy of that bodycam, it’s as if he made the whole story up. And I felt like he set us back 100 years, because think about all of the racial profiling cases [that] are true,” Waters told the news station.

Waters said that the officer was very kind during the entire four-minute stop.

Timmonsville Police Chief Billy Brown also got involved, saying that Moultrie had reached out to him with accusations of having been raciallly profiled.

“[Moultrie] made a comment that the officer accused him of having drugs in the car. He said that his wife and grandchild was in the car. He asked them not to move because the officer looked as if he might shoot them or something. He also made mention that the officer continued to ask him about his neighborhood. ‘Why was he in that neighborhood?’ And threaten[ed] to put him in jail in reference to something dealing with the registration to the vehicle,” Brown recalled.

Brown said he investigated, only to find that that was apparently not true.

“When I saw the video, I was shocked that someone who is supposed to be a community leader, a pastor, and head of the NAACP would just come out and tell a blatant lie. It bothered me,” the police chief said. “It really bothered me, thinking about the racial unrest it could’ve cost in the community, and it’s just troubling to me that someone who held a position like that would come out and just tell a lie. There was a time where I was a victim as a police chief. I was a victim of racial profiling.”

The Root reached out to the Timmonsville NAACP for comment on the incident but got no response. However, local NAACP officers Kenneth McAllister and Henry James Dixon told News Channel 9 that they were hard-pressed to believe that Moultrie would lie, even though they had not viewed the bodycam video.

“We don’t condone the wrong that a person has done, we just don’t believe he would have told a lie about something of that magnitude. We’re not saying a person is incapable of lying. Just from his character, we don’t think he would have lied about something like that. In all fairness to the NAACP and the community, we will watch the video and have a conversation with our NAACP president,” Dixon said.

“Based on Rev. Moultrie’s character, and I wouldn’t have served as his vice president if I felt that he was a liar. I just wouldn’t do that,” McAllister said. “But I know he has worked very hard, very diligently, in bringing back together this branch of the NAACP. And we realize everything that the NAACP is about, and it’s not about that.”

So now Moultrie, having been contacted for a response to the release of the officer's body cam video, claims that in fact there were two cops and it was the second cop who racially profiled him.
Really.

 

Most often when police officers are killed in the line of duty the community offers a moment of sympathy and they go on. Or sadly, an immediate call for protests and marches to protest the police even before the facts are known.
Not so in Arvada, Colorado.

Three people, including a veteran Arvada police officer, were killed Monday afternoon in a shooting in Olde Town Arvada that forced people to flee and others to take cover in the popular dining and shopping district.

The others killed included the shooting suspect and a third person described as a “Samaritan,” Arvada police Deputy Chief Ed Brady said at a news conference Monday afternoon.

Police later Monday night identified the slain officer as Gordon Beesley, a 19-year veteran of the Arvada department. Beesley served as a school resource officer at Oberon Middle School, police said, but was working in the patrol division while school is out for the summer.

Beesley’s family is asking for privacy, Arvada police said in a news release.

Police have not yet publicly identified the two others, aside from saying the suspect and the other victim both were men. Those names will be released by the Jefferson County coroner.

“There is no threat to the public at this point,” Brady said. “We’re not searching for anybody else.”

An officer responded to a 1:15 p.m. call about a suspicious incident near the Arvada library, Brady said. Calls about a shooting poured into the 911 dispatch center about 15 minutes later, he said.

Brady did not offer any other information about the shooting and did not take questions from reporters at the news conference. He did not state a motive for the shooting or explain why one of the people killed was called a Samaritan. More information was to be released later Monday, police said.

“This is an active investigation with many moving pieces,” he said.

Arvada police first reported the incident via Twitter at 1:53 p.m. Monday. Dozens of police officers from several metro Denver agencies responded to the area Monday afternoon and told people to stay away. Arvada police initially said two suspects were possibly connected to the incident, but later specified there was only one.

“Obviously it’s a horribly sad day for Arvada and for the region,” Arvada Mayor Marc Williams said. “There’s been so much of this. You hate to see it happen anywhere, but to see it happen in your community really brings it home.”

What stands out in this tragedy is that the community came together almost instantly to mourn the loss of lives. Details are still not being released, but for the Arvada community it matters little. There are no community leaders calling for marches or protests in the streets, no unsupported allegations of police misconduct; just an outpouring of love and sympathy for the loss within the community.​

This is 99% of the problem. NOT the police. CRIMINALS, or at least lawbreakers, are stopped by police. Then the police check (as they are supposed to do) on the registration, insurance of the car and the driver's license to see if there are any reports, warrants, etc. If there are any discrepancies (car reported stolen, warrants out for arrest, etc.), the officers are DUTY BOUND to act.

In this case, the driver, treated politely, was told of discrepancies and told what to do to correct them. No threats, no tickets issued, no violence.

Then, the driver LIES in order to stir up more negative feelings against the police.

WHO IS WRONG HERE? This IS what happens 99% of the time: LIES that are intended to undermine justice in order to make it easier for CRIMINALS to get away with whatever they want.

This is aside from the LIES that are spread about 99.9% of officers who are DOING THEIR JOBS when they try to arrest CRIMINALS who have warrants out against them when CRIMINALS resist arrest, attack the police or try to flee the scene.

Should even CRIMINALS be shot down and killed in the streets? Most of the time, "no", unless they are directly a threat to the life of the officer----HOWEVER, the LIES that are spread try to make INNOCENTS or even MARTYRS out of these criminals who are, in fleeing or resisting arrest, committing ADDITIONAL crimes.

All of this is so much BULLSHIT.

Investigate any violence, punish the very few police officers who DO show racist actions or unwarranted violence, but ALSO ARREST AND THROW INTO FUCKING JAIL FOR 40 YEARS ANY FUCKING LIAR THAT IS SIMPLY TRYING TO STIR UP RACIAL ANIMOSITY THEMSELVES (i.e.: minorities that only want to draw attention for themselves and undermine authority).

I do not remember the exact headline, but I saw this video last week headed: MCDONALD'S EMPLOYEE PUNCHES CUSTOMER

If you watch the video, a black female customer was causing havoc inside a McDonald's, went behind the counter and pushed, shoved and punched two employees multiple times. The employees said they were calling the police. The black woman said, "Go ahead and call the fucking police, I don't care" and proceeded to punch the employee in the face again, grab her by the hair and drag her to the floor. At this point, the employee fought back, indeed punching the customer several times.

So, what do we get in the headline? Employee punches customer, trying to make this into some kind of racist attack.

If there WAS any kind of "racist" attack, since both employees involved were white, it was a RACIST BLACK WOMAN attacking white women who did nothing at all to her.

Personally, I don't think this was really racist, just an asshole acting out, but it is the way the story is PORTRAYED and, without the video, the implication is that it was an attack against a black woman.

A grand jury has decided not to charge a former Georgia state trooper who shot and killed a Black driver during a traffic stop over a faulty taillight. Last August, the ex-trooper, Jacob Thompson, was arrested and charged with felony murder, days after his fatal shooting of 60-year-old Julian Edward Roosevelt Lewis. But, after the case was presented to a Screven County grand jury this week, the jurors decided to not indict Thompson on any of the charges against him. Lewis’ mom, Lindsay Milton, said that she believed that the ex-trooper wasn’t charged because he’s white. “They’re going to let this young man go free ‘cause my child was a Black man; no this is not going to work,” she said Tuesday, according to The New York Times. “We are going to push this to the very end.”

An Ohio police chief has resigned after he was reportedly caught on surveillance video placing a Ku Klux Klan sign on the desk of a Black officer. Anthony Campo, the chief of the Sheffield Lake Police Department, was described by the town’s mayor as being anything but repentant after the incident. “He thought this was just a joke,” Mayor Dennis Bring was quoted as telling Cleveland.com, calling it “the most egregious and offensive thing you could possibly do.” Campo, a 33-year veteran of the force, reportedly placed a piece of paper emblazoned with “Ku Klux Klan” on the desk of a Black officer who’d been with the department for less than a year. In addition to the sign itself, Campo had apparently laid out a jacket to look like the robes worn by KKK members. He then sat in wait for the officer to come find the display.

According to the mayor, Campo insisted the incident was meant as a prank, and when informed of a harassment complaint over the sign, he simply smiled and asked, “So am I fired?” He then proceeded to type up his resignation letter before leaving. Bring said he had apologized personally to the officer at the receiving end of Campo’s sick “joke,” who was reportedly in shock. “It took us 10 minutes to talk to each other because we both sat there crying,” he said.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Friday it would not bring federal charges against a Cincinnati police officer who shot and killed a man at a traffic stop. Officer Raymond Tensing pulled over Samuel DuBose, 43, for not having a front license plate in 2015. Tensing said he feared for his life when he shot DuBose in the head, alleging he tried to drive away. The officer was later arrested and charged for murder, but in two separate trials the jury was deadlocked. The case was then brought for federal review by the DOJ’s Civil Rights Department and the local U.S. attorney, who both declined to press the matter further. As a result, the FBI has also closed its investigation. The DOJ said they informed DuBose’s family of the decision.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The mother of a Black man fatally shot by a white former Nashville officer sobbed, screamed and knocked over a courtroom lectern Friday as she begged a judge not to accept a plea deal she says was struck in secret without her knowledge, a chaotic scene that briefly delayed the hearing before the judge accepted the agreement.

Former officer Andrew Delke pleaded guilty to manslaughter over the death of Daniel Hambrick, 25, in 2018 as part of an agreement with prosecutors.

Delke will serve a three-year prison sentence. As part of the agreement, he won't pursue parole or appeal the case. However, Delke's defense team said he will likely serve a year and a half in jail with standard credits.



Delke was about to face trial for a first-degree murder charge, but on Thursday, his attorney announced he had agreed to plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter.
