We Are Witnessing Joe Biden’s Basement Doctrine — Exactly as We Were Sold
By Brad Slager | Aug 19, 2021 4:15 PM ET

The surprise is not Joe Biden’s avoidance policy; it is that this has been sold to us with approval
    .

With a massive crisis of our making unraveling on a global stage, Joe Biden made a press appearance yesterday and addressed the nation. “There are people who are dying, and will die, who don’t have to.” Heartfelt words full of drama, possibly, but there was a severe issue with this — this speech was not about Afghanistan. At all. In a rather stunning display of avoidance, the president chose this time to rehash tired mask debates and take potshots at GOP rival governors, who are daring to snub his directives. He took Wednesday’s speech to do nothing but score cheap political hits.

There was no mention at all of the disastrous fiasco in Afghanistan, no words of clarity on what the mission entails, no comments about the thousands of Americans entrapped in the eroding conditions. Joe Biden turned from the podium and walked off without fielding a single question, the simple image of his back turned to the cameras becoming a glaring metaphor.

The mishandling of Afghanistan and the ensuing actions by the administration have been so glaringly wrong that the press has been coming out with actual negative coverage of Biden. It is a refreshing thing to behold, but at the same time sad that it takes a catastrophe of this magnitude to shake the press out of its trance. At CNN they even admitted to this — possibly unintentionally. In a piece critical of Biden’s actions they said:

“His credibility has been sullied because his confident downplaying of the risks of the withdrawal has been repeatedly confounded by events. Seven months into his term, Biden no longer gets credit simply for not being Donald Trump.”

That sentence cuts to exactly what the problem is today, and long has been the case. The press has been content to allow Joe Biden to skirt most normal forms of analysis and criticism, beginning last year during the campaign. He has been permitted to duck responsibility, dodge accountability, and avoid much scrutiny because of simply who he was not. Now, today, the media find they are dismayed to watch a fiasco of a massive scale unraveling before their eyes.

This was largely a disaster of their own making. They coddled and carried this man across the election finish line, and they are bearing witness to the result. He has been permitted to ease into this role, with the barest of inspection and with his blatant flaws covered up and moved into storage. What we are all seeing right now is The Joe Biden Basement Doctrine.

As the withdrawal in Afghanistan began to go sideways, the first thing we saw was the President go somewhere else. He took a vacation this weekend, just as the events abroad were devolving into a mess. As much as this was a dismaying action it was completely on-brand. He was called back from Camp David for his presser, spent time back at the White House, and has now made the return to his home in Delaware.

    AP Photo/Alex Brandon
The revealing aspect is that this show of being overwhelmed by events is not relegated to the president. With the president incommunicado, journalists hoped to get official word from the administration; nope, the press secretary had also left town for the week. We watched General Mark Milley address the press in what should be regarded as his resignation speech, declaring that the military had no concept that the Taliban could move so swiftly and take over the country so completely. The Secretary of Defense announced that they were in negotiations with the terrorists to have them assist in our exit strategy.

Word went out from the State Department to the Americans stranded in the Kabul area, that while they are encouraged to make their way to the airport to board evac planes, their travels could not be assured.

This is the administration built around a cipher of a man. Despite half a century of work in Washington, the citizens were not presented with an accurate picture of the real man. Joe Biden the President today is the same Joe Biden candidate the press sold to us. Recall how shielded and protected he was on the campaign. He gave few press conferences. His media appearances were completely controlled.

Whenever Joe faced the media, it was always a completely orchestrated affair. He was sent out with note cards and read monotonically from teleprompters like a father struggling with an unfamiliar Dr. Seuss novel. Questions were prepared for the press, and the pressers were choreographed with Biden calling on preordained reporters in numerical order. But this was on the rare occurrence of meeting the press.

One of the hallmarks of the Biden Presidential run was the tendency of hiding the man with numerous days off. The practice of calling a lid approached near punchline levels. In one stretch last fall, the campaign called off activities seven times in a two-week period, 11 times within the period of a month. The press deemed this as normal, nothing to be alarmed over, and if anyone alluded to this as a sign of trouble or infirmity they were called out as being hysterically biased.

And now we are seeing all the problems. Joe does not seem up to the task of handling an evolving crisis. When someone’s activities are so controlled it is a sign of being incapable of handling developing information. Biden is used to having everything scripted, so he cannot improvise and react when new developments arise. We are looking at a leader who needs to think on his feet who cannot follow a sidewalk on the White House grounds.

This is exactly the Joe Biden we were sold last year. The difference is at the time, the press was in on the con. The less he spoke, the fewer malaprops would be heard. If we were not shown the man we could not see the problems. All of this was presented as normal. We were being shown a used car, but were told it was not acceptable to take it on a test drive; it was unseemly to want answers and expect revelations.

Last year, Biden was ferreted away, and we were told everything was just fine. Now we are seeing that in the midst of a crisis, he is, once again, ensconced in his basement. It has been said that weak generals lead from behind; Joe Biden may be even weaker, as he is leading from below.

Kind of puts lie to the despicable claims about trump and his anti mask, anti vaccine stand, doesn't it?

      Shooter,
It would seem your sole mission is to defend any hypocritical position that anyone who leans right might have.
Though I applaud any business who care enough about their patrons health, that they require masks and even proof of vaccination, it kinda goes against his stance that its a personal choice to get vaccinated.
In many red states they aren’t allowing public schools to mandate masks, however private schools face no obstacles in their mask mandates.

So, even though there is no proof that masks actually work, and even though the evidence is that only unvaccinated genius's are at risk from covid, you subscribe to the government/corporation overreach of not only requiring a mask be worn, but that proof of vaccination be required to even enter a business?
In many blue states they are requiring public schools to mandate masks, and even forcing private schools to also follow their mask mandates.
    Your point?

So User, we also know that cloth masks are probably little more than virus incubators if not cleaned very often, and if not worn properly, masks are pretty much useless.

If this is true, where is the government enforced mandate banning clothe masks and improper wearing of masks?

Can you see the hypocrisy of government mandates that aren't effective?
The hypocrisy of demanding something of the minions while bypassing the government that creates these mandates?

Trump jokes about Delta variant at Alabama rally feared to be superspreader event

    Bob Brigham
    August 21, 2021

Donald Trump joked about the pandemic while campaigning in front of a large audience in Cullman, Alabama on Saturday night.

The town's city council declared a COVID-19 State of Emergency on Thursday and Trump's former fixer, Michael Cohen, blasted his former boss for holding the rally.

"And now the virus is back, the virus is back," Trump said.

"I'm shaking hands with everybody backstage. I say, 'Well, I don't know, is this a good thing or bad?' You'll read about it three or four days, maybe. Hopefully not."

Telegraph UK Destroys the US Media for Enabling Biden, While Biden Whines About Suddenly "Hawkish" Media
    By Jennifer Oliver O'Connell | Aug 21, 2021 8:00 PM ET

It would be a huge laughfest, if it wasn’t so tragic. British journalist and author Douglas Murray calls out the legacy media for aiding and abetting the installation of this feckless failure of a U.S. president:

The world appears to have woken up to an important truth this week: which is that Joe Biden is a truly terrible president. It is a shame that it took America gifting Afghanistan back to the Taliban for so many people to realise this.

To be charitable, there were perhaps two reasons why this had not become more obvious before. The first is that Joe Biden is not Donald Trump and for a lot of the planet that seems to be recommendation enough to occupy the Oval Office. A break from the Trump show appealed to an awful lot of people.

But the second reason why too few realised what the world was going to get from a Biden presidency is that the US media simply didn’t ask the questions it needed to ask. Before the election a near entirety of the American media gave up covering it and simply campaigned for the Democrat nominee.

Yep, and the Trump hatred and fatigue was fueled and fomented by this same media. It wasn’t just about asking the questions that needed to be asked. It was a full-on disregard of what was already known about Joe Biden. His lifelong racism was at the top of the list, but the fact that he was a plagiarist, a sexual assaulter, and a creepy, sniffy, Uncle Joe around young girls should have been pointed out and plastered across every newsfeed and chryon. Instead, it was excused, covered up, and actively suppressed by the U.S. media.

And speaking of suppression, Murray had more than a few words for our Big Tech overlords:

It was the same with the Big Tech companies. So persuaded were they (Twitter in particular) that they had been responsible for Donald Trump’s election in 2016 that during the 2020 race they did everything they could to get Biden in. That included – and this cannot be said often enough – effectively muting America’s oldest newspaper: the New York Post’s story about Hunter Biden‘s laptop, which contained serious allegations of corrupt tail-coating by Hunter and other members of the Biden family when Joe was vice-president. But Big Tech restricted the story from being shared and almost no other journalists bothered to follow it up.

We at RedState not only followed the Hunter Biden Laptop story closely, but reported, and are still following up on Hunter and the rest of the Biden Crime Family. Big Tech is still playing suppression games, but with the presidency failing, the COVID narrative falling, and a legacy media flailing in the wake of real journalism produced from this outlet and others, their stranglehold and ability to drive the narrative is bottoming out.

Because they know it would be beyond criminal not to report what is happening Afghanistan, and not to ask the hard questions that should have been asked 12 months ago, the legacy media is actually trying to be… <*gasp*>, <*clutch the pearls*> journalists!

The Huffington Post is having a real problem with this, and so is the White House :https://twitter.com/brithume/status...n-whines-about-suddenly-hawkish-media-n430901

As President Joe Biden ended his news conference on Friday afternoon about the United States’ withdrawal from Afghanistan, a reporter called out an especially bellicose question.

“Why do you continue to trust the Taliban, Mr. President?” the reporter said.

Notwithstanding the militant group’s poor human rights record and ultra-conservative Islamist ideology, multiple U.S. administrations have successfully negotiated with the Taliban. The Taliban have complex interests. As Biden noted on Friday, the organization is at war with the faction of the self-declared Islamic State (also known as ISIS), which is competing for power in Afghanistan.

But the reporter’s criticism-masquerading-as-query was the culmination of a week’s worth of dramatic finger-pointing and fretting from a Washington press corps that usually prides itself on neutrality.

Although the White House’s failure to foresee the rapid fall of the Afghan government and prepare accordingly has exacerbated the chaos of the U.S. withdrawal, Biden and his allies are furious with what they see as reporters’ and pundits’ unduly hawkish coverage of the exit.

“The media tends to bend over backwards to ‘both-sides’ all of their coverage, but they made an exception for this,” said Eric Schultz, a deputy press secretary under President Barack Obama. “They both-sides coverage over masks, and vaccines, and school openings and everything else. Somehow [the Afghanistan withdrawal] created a rush to judgment and a frenzy that we haven’t seen in a long time.”

That last paragraph is less “laughing out loud” and more “shaking my damn head.” You know it’s bad when journalists trying to actually do their job is labeled a “rush to judgment” and a “frenzy.”

But they painted themselves into that corner by being kingmakers and cheerleaders, rather than real news people. Murray brings this point home with Biden’s last CNN Townhall:

Until you see it up close you just cannot believe the cravenness of most of the American media. Last month the CNN presenter Don Lemon was selected to quiz Biden at a “town hall” event before the cameras. Biden was, as usual, meandering and unfocused as though lost in the fog of his own sentences. But Lemon would not press him properly. Rather, you could see him urging the president on, willing him to get to the end of the sentence or to reconnect with one of those trains of thought that been left derailed several clauses or sentences back. It wasn’t journalism. It wasn’t even kindness. He was rooting for the president.

The footage this week from Afghanistan has at least exposed the some of the problems that have resulted from this lack of critique. Not least the fact that the Commander in Chief appears unfocused on the serious questions.

How about unfocused PERIOD. The cavalier attitude being exhibited by not only Dementia Joe, but his generals and the State Department is mind-boggling, and any media person worth his or her salt is obligated to drive them hard on this. But HuffPost PuffHo wants to kvetch about past administrations driving the narrative and trying to pin their failure on Biden. One of the multitude of pundits I have listened to over the past week said it well: This failure has many fathers, but the failure to properly take care of the American people and American property is fully in President Job Biden’s lap.

But Biden would rather complain about how hard everyone is being on him, and that his vacation was interrupted

U.S. imposes Nord Stream 2 sanctions; opponents say they won't halt project

Aug 20 (Reuters) - The Biden administration on Friday slapped sanctions on a Russian ship and two companies involved in the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, but opponents of the nearly completed project said the measures would not stop it.

The sanctions were imposed on ship Ostap Sheremeta, ship owner JSC Nobility and construction company Konstanta, the State Department said in a report to congressional committees. A copy of the report was seen by Reuters.

U.S. President Joe Biden separately issued an executive order allowing for sanctions to be imposed on certain Russian pipelines.

But opponents of the $11 billion project to bring Arctic Russian gas under the Baltic Sea to Germany said the pipeline would likely be completed despite the sanctions.

"These sanctions do nothing to halt Nord Stream 2," said Daniel Vajdich, president of Yorktown Solutions, which advises the Ukrainian energy industry on the matter.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement that the administration has now sanctioned seven entities and identified 16 of their vessels as blocked property under sanctions laws passed by Congress.

Biden has opposed the pipeline, like the previous two U.S. presidents, because it would bypass Ukraine, putting at risk lucrative gas transit fees and potentially undermining its struggle against Russian aggression.

But in May the U.S. State Department waived two sanctions that opponents say would have stopped the project. The measures were on Nord Stream 2 AG, the company behind the project, and its chief executive, Matthias Warning, a Putin ally. read more

"The only thing that can stop NS2 from becoming operational is lifting the waivers and sanctioning ... Nord Stream AG, which they refuse to do," Vajdich said.

Trump can't put the genie back in the bottle. All the peo0ple around hm have been trying to get Trump to promote vaccines because he is getting blamed for the vaccinated. But treasonous conservative/Republicans see that as a betrayal. So the best Trump can do is keep delivering mixed and contradictory messages just like he did at this supper spreader event.

Biden Completely Incoherent at Meeting With Rabbis, Then Lies His Head off About Being in Civil Rights Movement
By Nick Arama | Sep 02, 2021 7:30 PM ET

I’ve said it before, indeed, in a story earlier today.

Joe Biden has a problem. There’s something very wrong with him and it goes far beyond incoherence or dementia. He just can’t stop lying and puffing himself up. Even over things that are demonstrably untrue. Even when he’s previously said something completely different.

Biden was at it again during a meeting today with rabbis.

It started off with weird incoherence and then moved on to the lying.

Every time Joe Biden goes off the reservation and starts trying to pander, you know it’s going to go wrong. He was in a formal meeting with limited time and he just goes off on a ramble about his daughter and when she got married. He talks about how it’s the dream of every Catholic father to have his daughter marry a Jewish doctor. Huh, what? Is that Joe Biden throwing out stereotypes again? He said he was upset that they didn’t play “On Eagles’ Wings,” a Catholic hymn, at the wedding. Instead they played another song that he forgot the name of. “What is the song? With the chair?” Biden said, failing to remember “Hava Nagila.”https://twitter.com/bennyjohnson/st...-about-being-in-civil-rights-movement-n437280

If there was a point there, you’ll have to forgive me, because I was unable to discern it, apart from “I am trying to pander to you.”

But then he went beyond that incoherence back into outright lying.

Here he is lying, once again, about “coming out of the civil rights movement.”

    https://twitter.com/AZachParkinson/...-about-being-in-civil-rights-movement-n437280

Joe Biden 2021? Meet Joe Biden in 1987 after he was caught in his lying/plagiarizing scandal when he first ran for president. He was caught then, lying about marching in the civil rights movement and had to admit that he was never actively involved.

It was too much even for CNN to defend.

    https://twitter.com/SteveGuest/stat...-about-being-in-civil-rights-movement-n437280

Yet although he corrected himself in 1987, he’s continued fall back and repeat the lie that he was involved in the civil rights movement since then, even after correcting himself. That’s a dangerously pathological problem at this point.

The truth was also not just that he didn’t march but that he had some clear racial issues himself.

Indeed, as we’ve seen, on the contrary some of his actions/comments were pretty questionable and would have been questionable even at the time in 1977, such as when he talked about not wanting his children to grow up in a “racial jungle.”

That’s why you had him over the past forty years making all kinds of racial remarks, even up to last year and “you ain’t black” unless you voted for him.
